Welcome Latest News Spring 2012 Issue 7 BVAL Easter Holiday Programme BVAL delivered a successful programme of activities over the Easter holidays. The programme was supported by Morpeth Town Council, Newbiggin Town Council and Seaton Valley Parish Council. BVAL have changed the registration process for holiday activities. Once you have completed the holiday registration form you will receive a new holiday card which will enable your child to book onto all future holiday activities. For more information please contact Tom Lavender on 07540 412086. Over 250 local people turned out in force on Sunday 25 th March at the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea. Milers of all ag- es were sponsored to do 1, 3 or 6 miles along Newbiggin Promenade. The event was organised by BVAL and supported by Newbiggin Town Council, Northumbria Army Cadet Force, Mccain Northumberland Athlet- ics Network and Northumberland Play Rangers. Spring 2012 Issue 7

BVAL Easter Holiday Programme

BVAL delivered a successful programme of activities over the Easter

holidays. The programme was supported by Morpeth Town Council,

Newbiggin Town Council and Seaton Valley Parish Council.

BVAL have changed the registration process for holiday activities. Once

you have completed the holiday registration form you will receive a new

holiday card which will enable your child to book onto all future holiday

activities.

Apprentices World Record success!

Make-a-Move officially ‘Excellent’!

Four Make-a-Move Apprentices have made history by coaching a group of Tyne Met College staff and students to a ‘Guinness World Record’ for ‘Fastest Tennis Ball Pass (Team)’. As part of National Apprenticeship Week, Apprenticeship students stud-ying on the Sports Activity & Leadership programme supported the world record attempt which is set to be verified soon. The Make-a-Move team now have a team of 5 Leisure Development Ap-prentices with a vacancy for a 6th position to be advertised before the summer as a result of funding being secured from Coalfields Regenra-tion Trust.

Tri Northumberland events planned for 2012

Tri Northumberland have planned a range of events in Northumberland for 2012. This commenced with the Morpeth Duathlon in April and will con-clude with the Woodhorn Museum Duathlon in October. Triathlon and Swim Challenges are also planned over the summer at Newbiggin, Dru-ridge Bay and QE2 Country Park. Tri Northumberland are also looking for Marshalls to volunteer at all events with the benefit of a Volunteer Pack and access to reduced cost/free plac-es in Tri Northumberland events (limited availability). The Make-a-Move team have scored 87% in their latest Quest assessment, which is categorised under the UK Quality Scheme for Sport & Leisure as ‘Excellent’. Quest is a tool for continuous improvement, encouraging ongoing development and delivery within a cus-tomer focused management framework. The Make-a-Move team underwent a two day assessment in which a Quest Assessor interviewed members of staff, partners and service users.

Pegasus rider is champion

The Pegasus Centre is celebrating after Para Dressage rider Gayle Bloomfield became National Champion in the Restricted Grade 2 Class at the Winter National Championships. Gayle achieved a mark of 70.48% in her final test and beat a horse called Lambrusco which has previously won a gold medal at the Olympics. On the same day, Gayle also won the Na-tional Para dressage Talent Spotting Over-26 Group event. Gayle has since followed up this success by being voted ‘Northumberland Gazette Sports Personality of the Year’ which was a result of votes sub-mitted by readers. Give it a Go Olympic Taster sessions

Northumberland County Council in partnership with BVAL and other lei-sure providers are offering free or heavily discounted taster sessions in a range of Olympic sports in the build up to the Olympic Games this Sum-mer. Sessions will take place across 5 activity weeks which include: 16th - 22nd April (100 days to go) 14th - 20th May (Torch arrives in UK) 11th - 17th June (Torch comes to Northumberland) 16th - 22nd July (Get ready for the Olympics) 27th August - 2nd September (Paralympic games take place) To view the Give it a Go brochure please visit our website.
