New classes starting in Edmonton, Calgary

Students from both campuses hit the road last month for several great road trips. Students from the Edmonton campus headed to Callingwood Arena to support the Girls’ Midget A Hockey Provincials. Students provided massage therapy to hockey competitors, as well as tournament guests.
Calgary students soothed shoppers at Market on Macleod, offering seated massage March 14-15 and March 21-22 to raise funds for charities including for the Queen Esther Education Foundation, which helps immigrants with education and other support.
This month, students will offer massage therapy at the Edmonton Woman’s Show April 18-19 (CEO Maria Pavkovic-Tovissi is also a speaker) and at the Calgary Women’s Show April 11-12.
Students will be at the start and finish line for the third straight year on May 31 as an official supplier of massage therapy for walkers, runners and support team members at the ScotiaBank Calgary Marathon.
First-years will offer seated massages to friends and family of participants at the start, second-years will be at the finish line for athletes. If you are interested in participating in this field trip, contact Shannon in Edmonton or Tuyen in Calgary for more information.

Oh, what a party!
The March graduating class from our Edmonton campus enjoyed an elegant and memorable year-end celebration March 6 at the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald in Edmonton.
Students posed for the cameras, ate a fantastic meal, accepted awards and got the chance to swap stories about their future plans during this happy event.
The ceremony, along with Calgary’s graduation party on March 26, was sponsored by the good-hearted folks at Massage Heights.

Lisa joined the Edmonton campus of MaKami College in January of this year.

Welcome, Lisa, to our Edmonton campus! Lisa is theory instructor for first-year osteology and myology, as well as 2nd-year orthopaedic assessment. Before joining MaKami in January, Lisa was a chiropractor for seven years, and has her undergrad degree in Kinesiology. She has also worked as a Medical Office Assistant instructor. Lisa has three children, two-year-old twins Sarah and Katie, plus son Nicholas, 3. “I taught before and I really enjoyed it,” she says. “This position came up at MaKami and it looked like it could be the right fit. This is a great place for students.”

Grads shine at Hotel MacDonald
Proud Edmonton grads stand tall, above and below, at the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald on March 6.
Sweet-smelling Rocky Mountain Soaps share the spotlight on the Calgary counter in April.
The all-natural soaps, in a variety of fragrances, are available for just $5.25.

Meet the Staff!
Staff and students at MaKami’s Calgary campus are pleased to welcome Jocelyn.
Jocelyn is Shirley’s teaching assistant in osteology and myology. She studied massage therapy at Mount Royal University and worked in local spas and clinics before landing at MaKami in late February.
Jocelyn balances afternoon classes at MaKami with part-time work at a city clinic. She says she’s thrilled to be working with Shirley, her former schoolmate, and also to be joining the MaKami campus.
“It’s a great place, it’s super dynamic,” she says.
Jocelyn started working at the Calgary campus in early March.

From the opening cocktail reception to the onstage procession and a sumptuous meal, there was laughter and even a few (happy) tears March 26th as massage therapy graduates celebrated the end of a two great years at MaKami College.
The fun-filled event at the Delta Calgary South had students, families and staff hitting the dance floor, gathering for quirky group photos and sharing great college memories. Thanks to Massage Heights in Calgary for making it possible.
