Major Scale 1. There are 12 notes in Western music. 2. If you play all of them in a row, this is called a Chromatic scale. 3. The interval between each adjacent note is a HALF step, so the chromatic scale is all half steps. 4. If you play a scale with only WHOLE steps, it’s called a Whole Tone Scale. 5. The major scale, like most scales, is only 7 notes, and it’s a mix of half steps and whole steps. 6. Every major scale has this order of half and whole steps: W-W-h-W-W-W-h …Memorize it! Here’s a C MAJOR SCALE. The first note is C and we call that Scale Degree 1 Whatever Major Key you are in will have that note as Scale Degree 1. Eg: In a G Major Scale, G is 1.
