BIOGRAPHY GEORGIA AIR NATIONAL GUARD LIEUTENANT COLONEL DAVID C. SMITH Lieutenant Colonel David C. Smith is the Deputy Commander of the 165 th Mission Support Group, 165 th Airlift Wing (AMC), Georgia Air National Guard in Savannah, Georgia. He assists the 165 th Mission Support Group Commander with leading more than 470 military, civil service and state civilian employees with a 12 million dollar annual budget in support of more than 1400 personnel located across southeast Georgia. Assists with management of all support related matters in the areas of construction and facility maintenance, fire protection, emergency management, environmental management, base security and law enforcement, contracting services, communications and information technology services, logistics, material procurement and supply, aircraft fuel support, transportation, human resources support, food services and lodging support, and the recruitment, education, training, and retention of quality personnel for the 165th Airlift Wing and three geographically separated units. Lt Col Smith graduated and received his Bachelors, Masters, and Specialist degrees in Education from Georgia Southern University. Lt Col Smith earned his commission on September 18, 1997 through the Academy of Military Science as a Distinguished Graduate. In addition to his responsibilities with the Georgia Air National Guard, Lt Col Smith is a teacher and administrator in the Effingham County School System. Lt Col Smith is currently the Assistant Principal at Sand Hill Elementary School in Guyton, GA.
