MAJOR AND MINOR FIVE-FINGER PATTERNS AND TRIADS
(Introduced in Preparatory Level)
The MAJOR FIVE-FINGER PATTERN is Whole Step, Whole Step, Half-Step, Whole Step. The MINOR FIVE-FINGER PATTERN is Whole Step, Half-Step, Whole Step, Whole Step.
To change a MAJOR FIVE-FINGER PATTERN into a MINOR FIVE-FINGER PATTERN, the 3rd tone(degree) is lowered one Half-Step.
TRIADS are chords taken from Five-Finger Patterns and consist of 3 tones: - the Key-tone (1st degree) - the 3rd tone (3rd degree) - the 5th tone (5th degree). To change a MAJOR TRIAD into a MINOR TRIAD, the 3rd tone (degree) is also lowered one Half-Step.
Draw Major and minor Five-Finger Patterns below. Draw the Triad after each one. Use accidentals where needed.
KEYBOARD: Play each Five-Finger Pattern and Triad.
