AIT Handheld Reader DevicesAIT Handheld Reader Devices

AIT Project Office has the role of procuring AIT handheld devices Manage initial procurement and refresh of devices for USMC

applications Active with PM J-AIT to ensure that USMC requirements are met

on current AIT contracts

Transition to next generation of AIT devices Current scanner solution will need replacement in coming years Interdisciplinary working group at MARCORSYSCOM will

collaborate to determine optimal course of action

Emerging Technologies Emerging Technologies

AIT Project Office lab facility AIT lab is maintained near Quantico Venue for evaluating current and emerging AIT devices and

applications Also well equipped for technical training classes

Passive RFIDPassive RFID

Passive RFID implementation CONOPS for Passive RFID under development

Passive RFID will be applied to receiving process at our three MEF’s Transportation Movement Office and Supply Management Unit

Automatic correlation of Advance Shipping Notice from DLA with the pallet as it passes through the warehouse bay doors

Potential to eventually have enterprise visibility of material in motion, save labor hours and streamline receiving process

Item UID Implementation ActivitiesItem UID Implementation Activities

AIT Project Office has facilitated compliance with Item UID mandate

Item UID proof of concept projects Developed capability to apply UID mark to items Projects involved marking 7.5-ton crane, Intel Analysis System,

and Tactical Remote Sensor Systems. Assisted Maintenance Centers to develop UID marking capability

Reading and using Item UID data matrix Coded a scanner-based application to read Unique Item

Identifier (UII) for Intermec CK31 Automatically parses out key data elements (P/N, S/N, etc.) and

transmits to host computer database. Exploring method to utilize Item UID data matrix as a tool for

asset management / automatic data collection

TrainingTraining

Initial training Limited training conducted for USMC operating forces on PDK, EEDSK,

and use of RF-ITV server. Savi and PM J-AIT (Unisys) have conducted training classes for Marines

– very good response. Additional training conducted by AIT Project Office.

Sustainment training Dedicated RFID/AIT representatives are attached to forces at Camp

Pendleton and Camp Lejeune. Capability to conduct informal training on RFID equipment and

applications as required.

Formal schools Marine Corps Combat Service Support School is developing instruction

for new Marines in logistics. AIT Project Office has provided equipment to assist.

Challenges EncounteredChallenges Encountered

RFID interrogator installation delays Savi is very prompt, but base site prep work is limiting factor Contracting source selection and award process can take

months Dedicated FSR on station helps facilitate work completion

Active RFID certification and accreditation HQMC C4 initially granted Authority to Connect (ATC) through

Jun 07 - permitted to install interrogators on USMC bases Recently completed Application Security Plan in order to receive

an Interim Authority to Operate (IATO). Currently staffing the draft Information Support Plan (ISP) as

required for full ATO
