1 ROLE SPECIFICATION Maintenance Assistant Context: Morrison’s Academy is a co-educational independent school for children from the age of 3 to 18 years. A Nursery, large hall and the 45 acres of school playing fields are located on separate campuses a short distance from the main school. Set within the attractive market town of Crieff, Morrison’s looks out on stunning countryside and yet is only an hour’s drive from Edinburgh and Glasgow. The ethos of the school is shaped by high expectations, toleration, courtesy and respect for others, and regard for ethical and moral values. A combination of modern and traditional teaching and learning opportunities provide young people with the knowledge and skills to lead successful and well- balanced lives. In partnership with parents we encourage our young people to develop their full potential, academically and personally. Excellent pastoral care, concern for the individual pupil and a wide range of co-curricular activities also contribute much to our friendly, purposeful atmosphere and sense of community. Role: This role is to assist the Maintenance Team and School Janitor with the maintenance programmes, general school routines and day to day security both during and outside normal school hours. Qualifications: Essential Full clean UK driving licence A versatile, resourceful and enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills A co-operative and flexible approach to work. Ability to carry out general maintenance Desirable Experience in a trade Previous experience of working with young people in a school or other appropriate environment A degree of computer literacy Accountable to: Bursar Reports to: Factor Hours of work: 40 hours per week (Full time). These basic hours are normally worked between 08.00 and 17.00 with a one hour break for lunch and are inclusive of a 15 minute refreshment break morning and afternoon. The requirements of the role are, however, such that hours must be worked flexibly with regular work outside these normal working hours as required. Leave entitlement: Contractual leave entitlement is 20 Days Annual Leave plus 13 Public and Statutory holidays. There is an additional entitlement to any half-term holidays as scheduled on the School calendar. The leave year commences on 1 st August.

Salary Scale: Basic salary will be linked to point 18 of the Morrison’s Academy Support

Staff Pay Scale. There is a contractual obligation for a maximum of 20 hours per month

averaged out to 240 hours per annum. Any overtime hours worked in excess of this obligation will be paid at one and a half times the hourly rate and on weekends at twice the hourly rate. Alternatively, time off in lieu of payment may be requested.

Maintenance Assistant Principal functions of the role

opening up of the School buildings and gates in the morning .

providing assistance to the Maintenance Team and Grounds Team as directed

assisting the School Janitor with setting up rooms and halls within the main campus and Academy Hall

assisting in the preparation of, and be available at, school events as directed from time-to-time, outside normal school hours if required

being available for duty outside of normal working hours as a member of the Duty Janitor roster

When on duty the Maintenance Assistant shall maintain a smart appearance wearing the appropriate items of uniform supplied by the School.

The Maintenance Assistant shall comply with the individual responsibilities imposed by the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (1999) and to co-operate with Management to promote a positive attitude towards Health & Safety at Work taking all reasonably practicable steps to prevent personal injury or injury to others.

This role specification is intended to convey a broad outline of the position and responsibilities of the Maintenance Assistant. It is not definitive and will be mutually reviewed and developed as the role evolves.
