There are two types of people in this world: those who listen to Christmasdecorate before Thanksgiving, and those who loathe people who listen toand decorate before Thanksgiving. I am a proud early decorator and premusic listener! I try to wait at least until Hobby Lobby starts getting their dsometimes I beat them to it. Its the hap-hap-happiest time of the year. Wh

I am a huge snow lover as well (and dont hate me), but I am hoping we totals this winter. Not only does winter begin in late December, but climatreach our average coldest temps here in Oklahoma. The average high drand the average overnight low drops to 29 degrees! This continues until mwe slowly start to see our averages temps creep back up. These chilly anwhite conditions make you want to cuddle up by the fire with a huge cup overflowing with marshmallows to watch Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindee or maybe thats just me.

No matter what your little quirks or rituals are this time of year, I hope yofullest and get to spend time with your favorite family and friends. Merry Happy Holidays, everyone!

The Sooner football season started with the buzz that red-shirt freshman Trevor Knight wasgoing to be the starting quar terback instead of the popular Blake Bell. The Sooners wonevery game that Knight started, but when the Sooner offense became ineffective and Knightgot hurt, Bell stepped in. Bell performed well against Tulsa, and his road test against NotreDame and Sooner Nation thought they had found their quarterback.

Then Dallas happened: The Sooner offense sputtered to a loss at the hand of the despisedLonghorns of Texas and experienced multiple slow starts with the offense. After a loss toBaylor, many of the Sooner faithful were clambering for a change of QB. Flash ahead tothe Iowa State game and another lackluster perf ormance by the offense, and on a run play,

Blake Bell took a hard shot to the side of the helmet.I believe you should never lose your job to injury; however, when Trevor Knight came backin to run the Sooner offense, something was different. Knight stepped in to run the offensethat had only scored three points against the mighty Iowa State Cyclones. (Sarcasm? Yes.)What did my eyes see but the zone read offense being run to near-perfection?

This was the offense that we heard ab out all off-season how the Sooners spent eightmonths implementing the zone read to best use the attributes of the quarterbacks they had on campus. Even the most novice football fanscould tell you that the Sooners ran completely different offenses while Bell and Knight were at the helm.

When Knight first started the seas on, we did not see very much zone read out of the Sooners, and yes, Knight struggled throwing thefootball. So everyone thought the Belldozer was the answer. It seemed as if the Belldozer was no more; Bell was running an offensesimilar to that of Landry Joness during the previous four years.

Back to the Iowa State game: When Knight came back, something clicked for the Sooners. The zone read was working, and runningbacks were running wild and free all over the field to the tune of 405 yards. The Sooners were 13 yards shy of Brennan Clay to havingthree 100-yard rushers in a game. The 405 yards were the most in a Bob Stoops-era game.

Then came Knights first road start in his caree r - going on the road to take on the always-tough Kansas State Wildcats in Manhattan,Kansas. The Sooner offense got off to a good start and s cored a touchdown in the first quarter. That was the first time in four games theSooners had scored before the second. K night followed it up with a beautiful 14-play, 98-yard drive that was all running plays endingwith a Knight touchdown run.

I dont know what it is, but the kid is diffe rent now and in control of this zone read offense. Passes are crisper and the line is maulingpeople. Bedlam is going to be just that!

Just like their cross-town rivals, the Norman High basketballteams have key players returning that look to make a run deepinto the state tournament. The boys led by coach Matt Thorntonhave some skilled athletes to go along with the girls being run bycoach Nichole Copeland.

Bethany Cox will be the lady that Coach Copeland will turn tofor the purpose of leading her team. There will be a lot of newfaces for the Lady Tigers this year, but under the mentorship ofCoach Copeland, I expect the Tigers to continue to improve andmake strides toward the state tournament. Copelands brand ofbasketball is an enjoyable brand, and when she gets the rightpieces of the puzzle, watch out for the Lady Tigers!

For Coach Thornton, the Tigers bring back a g ood young nucleusof talent to make their push for the post season. Led by CooperClark and the always-fun-to-watch John Benardello, the Tigerguards will be a blast to watch all season. Benardello had hiscareer night against Moore last year, hitting 10 three-point shotsin the game. Sayvon Foley, who has wrapped up football, willplay a role along with Hudson McClure and Blake Hardman.

Both the boys and the girls basketball teams for Norman Northhave a big year ahead of them as they look for a spot in the statetournament. The boys have a new head coach for the year whileCoach Blough will look to lead his girls to state once again. The boyswill be directed by first-year head man Bryan Merritt.

The Norman North basketball programs are both looking to makea big splash in the state this year. Coach Blough has a good groupof returning starters back in the fold for the lady T-Wolves. BriKuestersteffen and Haley Woodard paired with Paige Canty andJulian Mougell will be tough for any team once they get into playofftime. Kuestersteffen will play soccer for UAB and Woodard is just apure athlete. If Mougell can play well in the post, expect good things

    from the T-Wolves.

For Coach Merritts first year with the Timberwolves, he inherits a ver ytalented group of young men. Payton Prince and Kairo Rutledge willbe big forces down on the blocks while sophomores Lindy Waters andMarcus Dickinson will be key roles for the Timberwolves in their huntto hoist the gold ball.

    Richard MoormanThe Art of Manliness

How to Give Mans Most Ancient and Manly Gift this Holiday Season and How to Keep it Local

Let me give you a brief history of Man. We left the treesbecause swinging was silly and for the kids. From the treeswe went to caves because we wanted something hard tosleep on in order to toughen us up. Picking berries was forlittle girls, so we decided to kill to eat, because we could, thus we invented hunting. All the men got together andasked ourselves, What we are going to hunt? and weall agreed that it should be the biggest, meanest animalaround, and so we decided that we would hunt woolymammoths.

Man was very hungry and very good at hunting, andnaturally the wooly mammoth became extinct, so we chosethe next biggest and meanest creature on earth: the bison. We started hunting that too, and before we knew it, theywere nearly wiped off the face of the planet. Somewherein there we made the mistake of letting civilization happen,

which led to further mistakes such as vegetarianism, foreignfilms, anti-bullying campaigns, skim milk, democracy andLulu.

However, there was one upside to civilization, and that wasthe invention of beer. Man now had beer, which gave Himthe evolutionary advantage of smashing His brains out, drowning His primitive impulses to conquer, destroy andpillage, as well as the evolutionary advantage to escapethe daily ennui of working for (or with) pansy idiots, andof course the evolutionary advantage of making His wifeappear more attractive.

The first beer was made from grapes and it was called wine, served in giant clay pots that you had to be a real man todrink from. Eventually they made beer from wheat, called itbeer and served it from heavy metal goblets that you had tobe a real man to drink from. Man created the first kegs fromwooden barrels and He saw that it was good, and when

He finished drinking from the kegs, he tied some of themtogether and threw them out onto the water and called it aboat. Then He sailed to America in search of better barleyand tougher wild animals to kill and eat.

Soon thereafter Oklahoma was a state and Woman saidMan would have to brew His beer with a lower alcoholpercentage. Mass production became the rage, which led

to the Miller EnLitenment, but mass production led to crassproduction, which brings us to today: the rise of the localbrewer. Oklahoma is now home to three of the best tastingbreweries in the nation.

COOP ALE WORKS(Oklahoma City) The best of theCoop Ale works is the Coop DNR. This Belgian-style darkale is only available in big bottles, but with a 10% alcoholcontent, even the manliest of men will need no more thanone or two to quiet the wildest primitive impulses. Thick andtasty, the DNR stands for Do Not Resuscitate. For a moreaffordable quaffer, try the Native Amber, one of mypersonal favorites.

MUSTANG BREWERY(Tulsa) TheWashita Wheatis one of my particular favorites from Mustang. This lightand smooth wheat is best from the tap and was a GoldMedal winner three years in a row at the World BeerChampionships. It doesnt get manlier than winning a beercontest.

PRARIE ARTISAN ALES(Tulsa) One word: Merica.

So remember to give the gift that matters most this HolidaySeason: a hangover.
