MAIN TASK INITIAL IDEAS

AIM & PURPOSE

• The aim of this slide show is to gain feed back on the ideas from my peers and choose my final design from these.

Page 3: Main initial ideas

IDEA ONE

• My first idea for the magazine was Pop music, The magazine DJ inspired me to come up with the ideas for the magazine.

• My target audience is 16-25 because I know that this is the age group that listens to pop and dance music (unisex).

• Aimed at school/college/university students (16-25) to young adults that have left school to work (16-25).

• The style font will be ‘curved, bold’ so its easy to read and the main writing on the front page will be white to stand out from the picture.

• Language – Informal (use of slang)

IDEA ONE CONTINUED• A feature that could be included is a biography of an artist, or a day in the life of this

artist e.g. Example.

• The front cover will be a long mid shot of a male which would attract the eye of the male audience and indicate that the magazine is for males. It will also attract the women.

• Double page spread – Main image (right) writing (left).

• Colour – Red, black (white back ground)

IDEA TWO• My second idea – Alternative rock (The Fratellis, Vampire Weekend and Franz Ferdinand)

• Target audience – 15-30, aimed at school students to people at work (unisex)

• The style of the magazine will have rough/sketchy writing and consist of a variety of colours because the genre fits with this.

• Language – Formal for the older readers.

• Front page – Usually an artist consists of more than one member in the genre so it will be a long shot of a group.

• Double page spread – This will be the same idea as the pop magazine with the band on the right side and the writing on the left.

• Feature – A tour life with the band, this will interest the audience to see how they live.

• Target audience -18-30 (clubs) (unisex)

• The style of the magazine will include big variety od bright colours.

• Language –Informal (some slang)

• Features – Biography of an artist

• Front page – Mid shot of a female to attract the male attention

• Double page – Using the same style for each of my magazines.

PEER FEEDBACKIDEA ONE:

• ‘Pop music magazines are to repetitive and there are to many’

• ‘Colour scheme matches the music style’

IDEA TWO:

• ‘Age range needs to be considered’

• ‘Language might not appeal to the older readers such as the use of slang’

• ‘Find a unique style because the rough/sketchy look might not attract older readers’

IDEA THREE:

• ‘The colour scheme matches the genre’

• ‘Clubbing is unique however, people don’t want to read about it, They just want to go clubbing’

• ‘Have to feature big artists, such as DJs at a certain place’

FINAL DECISION

• My final decision is Alternative Rock because of the feedback from the group. Alternative Rock is very popular at the moment however there aren’t many magazines that are dedicated to Indie Rock. The idea of a sketchy front cover or just the title was popular within the group however I would need to lower the age to about 26 or 25 so the roughness of the magazine won’t put the reader of from buying it. I have also though about having the theme as the colours of the UK flag so Red, Blue, White and some black. The indie rock magazine had better ideas than the other ones because the Pop and Dance are already very popular magazines.
