Robinson are pleased to have been associated with the supply and installation of
the steelwork and precast package for the new Interdisciplinary STEM Teaching and
Engagement Centre (ISTEC) which contains state-of-the-art laboratories for teaching
undergraduates and postgraduate students. It will also support the University’s schools,
colleges and community outreach activities, while providing important facilities for
industry and a platform for wider collaboration.
The site programme was completed ahead of schedule and handed over in a phased
manner to suit the following trades.
Robinson were invited to the “Topping-out Ceremony” by the University project team
on Monday 14th November 2016. The “Topping-out Ceremony” is believed to go back
a thousand years to the Scandinavian people, who traditionally raised a flag, a fir tree
or both when the timber frame (or in this case steel) of a building reached its maximum
height, the custom of the fir tree symbolizing bringing life to the building.
