A thousand miles from nowhereIn a remote part of the West Indian ocean, lies the Seychelles archipelago. This rare haven that ancient legends refer to as the Garden of Eden, has a history made rich by thrilling tales of pirates, plunder, hideaways and buried treasures. It is said that when Vasco da Gama discovered the Seychelles, the archipelago was known as the ‘Seven Sisters’ – inspired by the star cluster of the same name (also known as Pleiades) used by marines for navigational direction. Each of the stars was named after the daughters of Atlas and Pleone in Greek mythology and the eldest and most beautiful was ‘Maia’, meaning ‘the great one’ in Latin - a title symbolic of the iconic character of this pristine resort.
