Project Introduction
This project is concerns of design and building of WLAN to providing services comparable to those provided to wired-line
network. However, the majority of the most wireless network issues are caused by human error, hardware, software,
environment or a combination of these aspects. This project research area is focused on the issues that existing in the
network subscribers: availability of the network resources by provided custom and redundant hardware to insure
availability operates continuously without failure for long time, securing the transmission signal over the air medium and
identify the different attack types that existing in network subscribers and provide Authentication, Authorization and
Accounting as strong encryption method used to verified clients login details to provide good secure communication
channel environment and allowing organization to maintain user’s database and the capacity of the network design to
handle voice traffic which created poor quality service network and packet loss. Therefore, load balancing use to
minimizing the traffic load by implement more APs with the network design to reduce the lost packets and network
injection.

It will research and critically review the existing literatures that is related to wireless LAN particularly
and securing a wireless LAN network.
It will analyse and clarify client’s requirements to develop and design the approved high Availability
network link, reliability and security in WLAN network.
It will provide a VOIP solution that is based on research findings.
Evaluate and test WLAN network design.
Provide evaluate and test the security in WLAN.

1- Provide high availability connectivity in case of a faulty link or network issue.
2- Provide good wireless LAN security links such as authentication and authorization functions for the users by verified login
information.
3- A voice over IP solution capable of running over the wireless network within reliability properties with respect to the delivery
of data to the intended recipient or user end.
Project Executive Summary
As increase of the size and complexity of today’s WLAN (wireless Local Area Network), new techniques must be developed to
effectively the network design to create a system that operates continuously and provide resource availability for their clients.
However, the majority of the WLAN issues are related to human error, hardware, software or combination of these aspects. This
impact of network performance and created poor quality service and packet lost which is effect the organization business. The aim of
the project is to cover the issues by providing suitable solution techniques that can be implement and test to fit with client need.
Issues Executive Summary of the Project
1- Client would like to have good security technique that can be applied in to WLAN to minimize the risk of attacks.
2- Availability of network connection in case of fault link and network issue.
3- Availability of Cisco equipment that support the network prototype.
4- Design a network according to client's requirement.
5- Build a network prototype.
Critical Research Summary
In today's world technologies, there are more enterprises that are focusing on the value of wireless local area network (WLAN)
technology instead of wired-line network because of the mobility. Mobility has increased the business profitability through
improved productivity and enhanced the link of real-time communication. However , the wireless network has arise several issues
and poorly understood regarding to the dynamic environment, mobility of subscribe, maintaining of the frequency range are the
high challenging that facing the wireless network.
Critical Research Summary
According to the client subscriber of existing WLAN
1- Availability of the resources transmitting based on radio frequency or light wave over the air medium using an access point
2- Secure of the transmission data over the air medium
3- Reliability of the WLAN design to handle voice traffic
4- Extended the network mobility within different floors in same building
Critical Research Summary of the Project Outcome
The majority of curried out a successfully project is the outcome of solving the issues and hence this project has focused on the WLAN
design infrastructure issue and weakness that existing in the organization subscriber. Therefore, this project has provided design
solution to the network infrastructure by choosing the suitable techniques and enabling to transmitting network packets with
availability and high security performances across Wireless LAN protocol with testing and providing VOIP instead of PSTN technique
solution as the best option to save high telephony bills and easy managing system.
Advantage Summary of WLAN
1- Low cost network system : The first reason justifying WLAN deployment is always low in cost due to wired replacement.
2- Resiliency and safe : Due to impact of link failure temporary interface, noise, fading and network jammed in a wireless network.
There are several possible solutions to avoid such issues.
3- More security: Because of the existing solution to improve security and privacy of wireless transmissions.
4- Mobility : Has provided a great advantages to the network and hence do not have to deal with cable bonds.
5- Scalability : Means to increase the number of users connected to same device
Project Methodology
Methodology is a method use to study and analysis based on the issues and weakness of the existing network of the clients'
subscribers. However, the methodology of this project has been curried-out with five processes which was proposed for doing the
particular test. The processes methodology has been designed to perform the test of the network performance against the existing
issues and evaluated the result.

In any typical offices environment for deploying 802.11 wireless network in organization, is remains and poorly understood
problem and hence wireless network installers typically focus on description of different platforms and techniques for provide
high availability and deploying a good coverage for all locations in the workplace and ensure that all the APs are placed in
correct locations to provide full coverage area to users and provide network load balancing, instead of measure properties such
as quality of network service or network capacity etc. As wireless network become more popular, the flawed threats risk of the
most of those network become more apparent. A wireless network is provide many advantage but it is more difficult to secure,
since the transmission medium is air interface and open network protocol within the geographical range and based on
weakness of the existing network of the clients subscribers. To prevent these risk of attacks the system required to implement
AAA three mechanisms encryption processes methods. The main purpose of AAA is to implement a good security
communications channel environmental for users by verified login details to gain access to the network resources, and
reliability of the network design to run freely voice traffic over the air medium and provide PBX-based server mobility
communication voice service solution over wireless to save high telephony charges over Wi-Fi.

Build a network prototype
A build of the wireless network is to implement 802.11 standards which provides different description platforms and technologies
that could be selected for the WLAN prototype. Many wireless is developed within the aim of delivering a good service with
consideration of different WLAN hardware versions, network redundancy, Wireless Media Transporting over the air, WLAN
frequency Range interface. In order to provide a good wireless network and satisfy the client requirements, we require to provide a
suitable hardware and software to enhance the existing wireless network performance. However , the hardware is quite costly
while the software based is available in free of cost (open source software applications) and usually run on a Windows XP, 7 and 8
operating system.

This section of the project methodology is provided WLAN implementation and testing plan in order to achieve the client
requirements by providing screenshots of the testing steps in really life equipment’s which was provided by the client
organizations. This section is consisting of the three following stages:

The implementation and testing plan has successfully result of curried-out the project outcome of a network design prototype
with aim to cover the client requirements for each issues has addressed in the project has been covered successfully. The
implemented of high availability wireless for WLAN technology by provided two wireless LAN controllers in order to
reducing dis-connectivity long lifetime takes by the network which was carried out successfully included the WLCs security
features , the implement of encryption method of WAP2 and CKIP to created security wireless network tunnel associated with
RADIUS server for providing AAA authentication method by verified clients login details has been successfully achieved and
the implemented of VoWLAN solution to run voice traffics over WLAN has successfully establish and use VOIP over Wi-Fi in
cost saving and easy managed system.
Project Evaluation Against the ObjectivesObjective One:
Objective one focused on gathering information and fully understand of existing wireless network design infrastructure and the
required to enhance the output of security, and improve the level of the network performance in order to achieve the client
requirements. This objective was achieved by review of the network design and suggesting by the client through face-to-face meeting
and via emails in regular contact to keeping in update within the network design infrastructure.
Objective Two:
The second objective was addressed to the client issues within the wireless network deigned in three sectors, high availability
network link, VOIP reliability and security in a WLAN. This objective was reflected in research and literature review chapter of
WLAN stating of high availability and reliability of the network link and the possibility of using different techniques to resolve
the problem and identify different security level attacks and its corresponding solution. This objective was accomplished in
address more details and understanding in this dissertation regarding to WLAN and security threats that facing the network, and
presented different technique methods in solving these issues through presenting a different detailed research paper.
Objective three:
This objective was to develop WLAN existing design to handle voice traffics over the air interface medium. This design is to
provide the capability of running voice over Wi-Fi and compare different VOIP over WLAN solutions, techniques and make an
educated choice on the right solution to reduce the high cost of calls bills for End-to-End users with comparable quality and better
features compare with traditional network (Public Switched Telephone Networks) technology, and also highlight the level of
challenge in design for implementing voice over WLAN. The VOIP design attached into wireless network infrastructure and was
explained with details in the second chapter of this dissertation.
Objective Four:
This objective was provided to present final wireless network topology design outline the test plan to evaluate the measuring
of the client wireless network solution for different set of network infrastructure deployment, system management, radio
frequency performance environment, network load balancing and security requirements. The objective was reflected in some
significant issues regarding to physical and logical designed within the wireless network in providing the above requirements
and enabling clients to gain access to the network resources without interruption while mobilizing and ensure all the end
devices are placed in correct locations.
Objective Five:
This objective outline the evaluation of the implementation and test plan of the security solution tool that used in client wireless
network and it is prepared to meet the different set of network security level deployment in order to provide the scalability and
performance requirements of a secure Wi-Fi with WLAN infrastructure. This objective was realized in the design and implementation
chapters of this project and was tested by verifying login details in using central controller contain processor centralized server
(Authentication, Authorization and Accounting) to share key authentication between the access point and personal device over the air
interface medium. Screenshots were presented as evidence to confirm the process as well as client feedback.
Objective Six:
This objective is to provide a critical evaluation plan and approach of the entire dissertation. This was accomplished by
providing some supporting materials and solution tools in dissertation chapters used to gather information in the evaluation
plan as it progress to finish. Explained the various and major aspects results, including impacts of each selection method used
in WLAN design, effectiveness and strengths and weaknesses in WLAN security in this project, highlight the value of the
project achievements and focused on the problem that addressed in this project and presented a possible solution that
implemented to achieve client requirements.
Objective Seven:
This objective is to provide the client with real life demonstration system use of university laboratory resources equipment’s
for testing and evaluation by the client to ensure himself of the successes of the network designed prototype in order to meet
the requirements.
Practical work:
This section has provided a client scope for the network prototype of having high availability with distributing the load
balancing and capacity of route freely traffics encrypted between the different floors network and handle the voice services
over the air medium to enable traffics going through the wireless network.
Client Feedback
The client feedback was based on successes of the assessment of the project work stages which was curried-out with excellent
demonstration and test plan for achieved the project goals. Each of the client requirements were covered and proved in
demonstration with identifying the main objectives of the successes for this project and satisfaction the client need.
Project Control and Management issues The different activities were all identified and conspire versus the estimated time (Hours) that are needed for the
accomplishment of the project tasks, also highlight the start time & end time dates for each task implicated in this project. The
schedule table was updated on regularly on each task and this method strategy has good assisted in monitoring the progression
of the entire project. This provided me an idea to work for arranging every task when am behind or ahead of the schedule
tasks. Furthermore, identified the critical project risk that can highly affect the success of this project before its start and the
alleviation and prospect that take all precaution for each risk and problems that facing each task in the project. However, most
of the activities were finished as expected and planned which is making the schedule to be correspondingly updating.
