    MAHARLIKA SUNRISE FESTIVAL

Art is a very effective tool to convince and encourage people to work for a progressive

change in the society for the welfare of all. Artists and writers, as representatives of

millions and as architects of the society, are the messengers of the mute masses and guardians

of the society. Their goodness has the capacity to transform the society into the right

    direction.

MAWF has lined up series of activities coherent to its goals. To express into action what

we believe, we organized the SUNRISE FESTIVAL which could serve as a venue to instill in

the minds and heart of the artists and artists their responsibility to educate the masses through

their gifts. Conceptualized 10 years ago and spearheaded by the representatives of the nine

member regional organizations that lead to the First National Roving Festival of the country.

We chose sunrise to symbolize hope, new beginnings, progress and transformation of the

society. The color orange of sunrise symbolizes commitment and selfless service. The goal of

the sunrise festival is to reach and encourage the masses to take part in building a progressive

society based on peace, love and respect.

    The 11th

Maharlika Sunrise Festival will be conducted in Calbayog City,

Western Samar on November 21-23,2014 thru partnerships with Governor

Sharee Ann T. Tan Governor of Western Samar, Congressman Mel Senen

Sarmiento (Representative of First District of Samar), Calbayog LOCAL

Offices through Calbayog City Mayor Ronald Aquino, City Arts and Culture

Office (CACO), City Environmental and Natural Resources Office, City

Tourism and Information Office, Department of Internal and Local

(Ang KaSaMa) , Waray Tupong and Calbayog Visual Arts Association.

MAWF welcomes potential partners who share the same sentiments and

    commitment.

  • OBJECTIVES:

The purpose of the festival is to ensure a continuing national cultural movement

to showcase all aspects of arts in the country: music, theater, literature, dance, film,

photography, fashion, broadcast, graphic and digital arts, tattooing and indigenous

martial arts. Activities of the two -day festival include an opening parade, art exhibits,

photography exhibit, creative writing, musical workshop, visual arts workshops and

    musical concerts.

    The THEME: Waray Waray Naman

Taking the literal term waray naman (Adj) as it means emptied (naubos) denotes the insufficient productive resources to fulfill all human wants

and needs. And true to its sense, it has been a common knowledge that when

Yolanda struck the beautiful region of Samar and Leyte, it left an immeasurable

amount of 14 million people affected and 4 million people displaced.

However, this also brings birth to a new coined meaning of Waraynons

fronting to lead Waray Naman or Waraynon Naman in Tagalog language.

There has been several invitations for this year as to where the Roving

Festival will nests its history for 2014 in hope to showcase the Regions culture through total integration of all aspects of Arts Music, Visual, Literary, Dance, Theater, Research , Senses, Emotions, Intuitions and Spirit. The event has been

successful in moving towards its common goal due to voluntary and collaborative

efforts among professional and amateur artists from all over the globe.

The time has come for the Region- The home of the strong and proud people

to highlight waray culture, that exhibits its arts, traditions, literature, people and

culture. This festival will serve as an avenue to tell the world that waraynons do

have their share of art geniuses.
