Featured review about MahabalipuramCalm soothing serene"Mahabalipuram is an ancient developed town by Pallavas dynasty , located in theKancheepuram district of Tamilnadu.

The beauty of this destination lies in its sea shore. If you are a nature lover and sea or beachescrave your holiday moods, then it's a must visit. The right time is to go from October to March, so that you can avoid the extreme sunstrokeconditions.

The sea shore temples, Pancha Rathas, Thirukadalmallai- The temple dedicated to Lord VishnuVaraha Cave Temple a small rock-cut temple dating back to the 7th century, The Shore

Temple and Light House- built in 1894, are surely to be paid a visit.

The great thing about this town is it's mixed culture which includes the local people and theoreigners from round the world, be it American, Mexican or French, they all live in harmony

    despite of the cultural differences.

The town is famous for sea foods, from tiger prawns to tuna fishes, Squids, lobsters, crabs andmany more amazing dishes that are sure gonna take away your taste buds to a differenthorizon, if you are a die hard non vegetarian and fish lover especially. There are manycontinental food outlets like French and Italian which are famous for their their specialisedmenus.

For shopping sprees, the streets are full of various boutiques and outlets with the modest skirts, ops, beach wears, dungaree, harem pants and you will also notice beautiful handmade loafers

and foot wears. I will recommend to design your own style of chappal and order it, because I

had bought myself two pairs of daily wear comfortable slippers for on and off purposes and thatoo with genuine leathers and materials. It's hand made and the best part is the cost is very

genuine and economical. Other that that, Jute bags, tote bags, and marble en crafted souvenirsike show pieces are best buy if you want to take back the memories of this place.

We went for the Sunrise and Sunset and its very serene. The beauty of the nature cannot be

described. So the best thing is to capture them if you want to see them forever.

t's been a very calm and exotic weekend and that too on the eve of Valentines day. So myoverall experience was Just WOW! I really haven't expected that the personified beauty of Mahabalipuram will make me mesmerised to this extent that I would actually advise couples topay a visit to this place once.

Do keep your sunglasses, slippers and cameras. And yeah enjoy it to the core with your lovedones!" - Nupur Anand, Patna, Feb 17, 2015

October visit to Mahabalipuram"It has been my wish since a graduate student in Fine Arts and then a Doctoral ResearchScholar in Art History, to be able to see in person, the sculptures I had so far learnt about fromphotographic reproductions in books. Mahabalipuram is a quaint place and we reached easilyover road from our earlier destination, Pondicherry. A small town huddling close to the historicsites, one only wonders why its tourist status isn't more brighter, in terms of a more pronouncedand active engagement from official authorities, including the Government as well as NGOs.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: The so-called Shore temple, the Five Rathas, teh magnificentelief panels of the Descent of Ganges (both the finished and the unfinished ones), the

numerous cave-temples. Do not miss the opportunity to request the purohit of the SthalashayanPerumal Temple to grant you access to the Adi Varaha Cave , he is also the purohit for thatcave-temple, perhaps the only active cave-temple of Mamallapuram. Do not miss the fried fishreshly caught off the shore and sold at shanties along the pathway leading to the beachollowing the fencing of the Shore Temple! Shop till you drop for carved stone sculptures at the

workshops of the local craftsmen - you cannot miss these.

Activities & things to do: Delve into history, the past reflected in the stone carvings and theemple complexes. If you are lucky enough to be in a hotel that does have facilities, jump intohe pool to laze around for a day --- the sea at Mamallapuram is too choppy and stone ridden to

venture in. Very few do. In fact there is a statutory warning on a faded sign post on the beachagainst attempting to sea-swim.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Easily accessible from Chennai." - Sanjoallik, , Jan 5, 2011

compliments each other so well that I decided to call them Coastal Couple. Mahabalipuram ismore known for its historical importance of the pallava dynasty. Its one of the world heritagesite.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: As soon we reached to Mahabalipuram from Pondicherry, wewent for the sightseeing. Everything can be covered within 3-4 hours if you don't go into too

much detail. Its a small city and all the locales like Arjuna's Penance, Varaha Cave Temple, fiveathas etc are separated by 0.5-1 km on an average. The main attraction is of course the shoreemple and is a must visit for any body going to Mahabalipuram. The autowalla charged us Rs

    200 for the sightseeing.

Activities & things to do: Next morning we decided to be at hotel and enjoy the surrounding. Wehad booked our room in Mamalla Beach resort and believe me they are the best in Businessconsidering the price factor. 1300 for room and rest for food. So we had candle light dinner rightat the sea shore and a morning walk with the sun rising from the sea. It was just beautiful.Since the sea current is high here as compared to Pondy. Its always advisable to take a dip intohe sea at Pondy only and not here.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: We went from Pondicherry to Mahabalipuram viaBus. There are buses operated by Tamil Nadu govt plying to Chennai. Take the bus which goeshrough East Coast road. We hired a taxi to drop at Chennai station to catch shatabdi to

Bangalore. So two ways to visit the Coastal Couple from Delhi

    1. Delhi - Bangalore(Only when You want to visit Bangalore or have friend working there whomyou wanna meet) - Take Luxury bus to Pondicherry - hire taxi or Govt bus to Mahabalipuramwill take 2 Hrs approx) - Chennai (2 hours again) - Train or Bus to Bangalore - and WAPAS

    Delhi

    2. Delhi - Chennai - Pondicherry - Mahabalipuram (any of the two can be visited first sinceMahabalipuram falls between Chennai and Pondy) Wapas- Chennai and then Delhi" -
