The CBT Brotherhood Presents: Movie Night
We are showing this documentary on the life and times of the father of modern Israel in commemoration of Israel’s 70th birthday on May 15.
Narrated by Academy Award winner, Sir Ben Kingsley and starring Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz as the voice of Theodor Herzl, the film examines how Herzl, a well-known
journalist and playwright, took upon himself the task of attempting to create a Jewish homeland in Palestine against all odds. Over the span of eight years, Herzl organized and led a worldwide political movement that ultimately led to the establishment of the state of Israel.

“See the Good” is the theme of the National Day of Prayer breakfast hosted by the Greater
Huntington Beach Interfaith Council Thursday, May 3, 2018. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. at St.
Wilfrid’s Episcopal Church, 18631 Chapel Lane, Huntington Beach. All faith, civic, and
community members are invited to join together, drawing on the strengths of all to pray for the
health and safety of this country and its occupants.
The National Day of Prayer is a long standing tradition in America, beginning when the
Continental Congress allocated a time for prayer in 1775, and culminating when President
Ronald Reagan designated the first Thursday of May each year as a National Day of Prayer.
In hosting this year’s prayer breakfast, Interfaith Council members wish to highlight the
similarities of many faiths that revere an inspirational and loving creator. They anticipate that,
in coming together, community members will see the best in one another, support each other’s
efforts to help those in need and set an example of love and acceptance for all.
Faith leaders hope that everyone’s time and resources will be dedicated to bringing this country
together with respect and dignity. Such efforts will help to quell the storms of hatred and
violence our nation faces today. As Gandhi said, “I suppose leadership at one time meant
muscles; but today it means getting along with people.”
The event will begin with prayers offered by faith leaders, followed by remarks from guest
speaker Paul Leon, CEO of Illumination Foundation – Breaking the cycle of homelessness. A full
breakfast shared by all will conclude the event. Donations will be accepted.

What is it? It’s a cross between a silent auction and a raffle. Auction items cost from one to four quarters. If you want to bid on an item, place the appropriate amount of money
in the bucket at your table and raise your numbered paddle. If the auctioneer draws your number from the
barrel, you’ve won that item.
Vendor items will also be for sale aside from the auction.
This is a fun way to shop for Mother’s Day and graduation gifts!
Invite your friends! Everyone is welcome, CBT members and nonmembers alike.
$10 per person for advance payment; $12 per person at the door. Includes a paddle for bidding, food and soft drinks. Wine available for purchase. Rolls of
quarters may also be purchased.
To RSVP and pay in advance, contact Brandi Cohen at 714-614-5006 or email [email protected]. Mail checks to the synagogue, 9669 Talbert Ave., Fountain Valley, Calif. 92708 in care of Sisterhood, with attention to Brandi, or drop them
in the Sisterhood mailbox on the door of the Judaica shop.
Please RSVP by May 2 by any one of the following:

Hi everyone,
My name is Maya Lessenger. I will become a Bat Mitzvah on September,
29 2018, and for my mitzvah work, I am helping families in need of food. I
volunteer for an organization called Families Forward, working in their
food pantry. Spring and summer is the slowest time to get donations, so I
want to help, but I can't do it without you. Please consider donating the
items listed below in the box located in the CBT lobby.
Most needed food items are:
Beans
Canned food such as chicken, fish, beef, fruit, and vegetables
Peanut Butter
Rice
Pasta
Spaghetti sauce
Crackers and healthy snacks
Baby food and formula
Diapers and wipes
Toilet paper, paper towels, and tissue
Thank you very much for your help,
Maya Lessenger
