A füge az egyik legrégebben ismert gyü-mölcs, már a Bibliában is szerepel: Ádám és Éva fügefalevéllel takarta be magát, miután meg-kóstolták a tudás almáját. Az ELTE Füvészkert-ben augusztus végén rendezték meg a 3. Füge Napot, amelynek védnöke idén is a bőséges fügetermésére büszke mediterrán Horvátország budapesti nagykövetsége volt. Az egész napos program bemutatta a két ország fügével kap-csolatos közös pontjait. Gordan Grlić Radman, Horvátország magyarországi nagy-követe köszöntőjében elmondta: „Őszintén örü-lök, hogy majdnem ötéves magyarországi kikül-detésem egyik legutolsó eseménye éppen a Füvész-kertben már harmadszor megrendezett Füge Nap. Úgy gondolom, nagyszerű ötlet volt elindítani egy ilyen típusú rendezvényt. Szeretném megköszönni dr. Orlóci László főigazgató úrnak, hogy évről évre lehetőséget biztosít Horvátország egy kis sze-letének bemutatására, s remélem, hogy közösen egy szép jövő elé néző hagyományt teremtettünk.

Ahogyan az előző években is a Füvészkertben ter-mett fügéből készített pálinka és egyéb finomságok versenyre kelnek a horvát fügetermékekkel. Idén a citrusok is megjelentek a kínálatban. S ha kós-tolgatás közben behunyjuk a szemünket és hall-gatjuk a dalmát zenét és dalokat, Dalmáciában képzelhetjük magunkat.” A józsefvárosi Füvész-kert az utóbbi években érdekes programokat szervez egy-egy növény tiszteletére és népszerű-sítésére, a nagykövetségek bevonásával, mint a japán cseresznyevirágzás, a bolgár paradicsom vagy a horvát füge.

The 3rd Fig Day was held in the Botanical Garden of ELTE at the end of August. The patron of the event was the Embassy of Croatia in Hungary. and special jams made of figs. The good at-mosphere was provided by the Klapa Bruni guitar and mandolin ensemble. In his greet-ing speech H.E. Gordan Grlić Radman, Ambassador of Croatia to Hungary said: “I am truly glad that one of the final events of my nearly five-year tenure in Hungary is the 3rd Fig days in the Botanical Gardens. I think it was a great idea to launch such an event. I would like to thank Dr László Orlóci, Director General for providing the opportunity to show a small part of Croatia year by year. I hope together we set up a tradition that has a long

and nice future. Just like in previous years, the brandy and other delicious specialities made from the figs grown in the Botanical Gardens can compete with the Croatian fig products. This year citruses also appeared in the selection. If you close your eyes while tasting, and listen-ing to the Dalmatic music and songs, you can feel as if in Dalmatia.” Lately the Botanical Gardens of Józsefváros involving some em-bassies has organised interesting pro-grammes to celebrate and promote various plants, such as the Japanese cherry blossoms, the Bulgarian tomatoes or the Croatian figs.
