1 Message definition

1.1 Principles The Despatch Advice Message intends to:

• advise the recipient (consignee) of the despatch of goods and to provide the details regarding the content of the consignment.

• allow the recipient (consignee) to track material shipments and to prepare the physical receipt of the consignment.

A Despatch Advice can relate to: • different articles which may be packed differently (as instructed or agreed). • articles covered by different delivery schedule and/or stock status messages.

The Despatch Advice Message must always include the transportation information (e.g., weight, means of transport, etc.) related to the load advised. As the information transmitted in the Despatch Advice Message is vital to ensure an efficient receipt of the material at the receiving plant and since, whenever a consolidator is involved, this information needs to be consolidated with other messages.

1.2 ASN – variants

1. Serial ASN 2. Reorder-ASN 3. Missing-parts ASN

All variants of ASN have the same content, they just have different values in the data field „code usage“ in record 714.

1.3 JIS-Process definition JIS = Just-In-Sequence: Delivery of parts or modules from the supplier to MSG in same sequence as production sequence at MSG. The supplier is located in immediate area to MSG. LDJIS = Long-Distance-Just-In-Sequence: Delivery of parts or modules from the supplier to MSG in same sequence as planned production sequence at MSG. LDJIS-TOP = Long-Distance-Just-In-Sequence with High-, Medium- and Low-Runner: Delivery of parts or modules from the supplier to MSG in special order-sequence to divide high-, medium- and low-runner (HML). Suppliers will be informed about their JIS delivery process as part of the initial procurement / on boarding phase.

1.3.1 Premises for JIS and LDJIS • For each load carrier there has to be one shipping note generated. • Each part number and order number has to be one ASN position. • Order number and storing position identifier.

o Order numbers are to be transmitted to referred part numbers according to JIS call off.

o Storing position identifier has to be transmitted additionally to packaging sequence identifier & order number

• For each packaging a packaging sequence information has to be transmitted (either according to JIS call off or generated by supplier).

• the message structure as defined by VDA for the Despatch Advice Message VDA4913.

• the message structure defined by Magna Steyr Graz (MSG) and described in this

document follows as close as possible the structure of the VDA4913 message.

• the agreement between the trading partners on the data elements to be used, their unique definition, their representation and their values (encoded or clear form) as identified in this document.

1.5 Field of application The following definition of a Despatch Advice Message in VDA format is applicable for the interchange of shipping instructions issued by MSG for material deliveries to one or more MSG operations.

2 Message description Following pages contain a full description of the VDA4913 message as implemented by MSG. The VDA description is complemented with remarks pertaining to the specific requirements for an interchange with MSG. Those remarks contain specific code values used, additional information on the values shown in a specific field, etc.

2.1 Segment table The following table shows all record-types as defined in the VDA 4913 message. Shaded areas identify the record-types that are not used in the definition of VDA 4913 used by MSG. This table should be read in conjunction with the branching diagram.

3 Record-type description The appearance resp. layout of the following record type description is based and leaned on the VDA-description to simplify the reading of this document. Following remarks are valid for all of the further described record-types:

• Fields not used by MSG are grey shaded.

• Numeric fields have to be right aligned with preceding zeros. These fields do not contain decimals unless otherwise specified in the field-explanation.

• Alphanumeric fields have to be left-aligned unless otherwise specified in the field

explanation.

• Column “VDA M/C” shows the information if a data field is mandatory (“M”) or conditional (“C”) defined in the VDA4913 description.

A conversion – if nec., by assigning a new part-number – to the admissible unit of quantity is required. In this context, it is possible to state the "ME" ("Mengeneinheit" – unit of quantity) oriented towards packaging in the designation of the delivery or service.

6 Packaging Examples This recordtype consists of all packaging related data. It corresponds to and connects the packaging unit number with the label according to VDA recommendation 4902. VDA 4902 has to be considered when sending ASNs. The receiving of goods is being done by scanning the barcodes of the packaging numbers on the labels. Hence it is mandatory to include packaging unit numbers in the ASN. To guarantee an immaculate receiving process, the correct structure of the various packaging elements has to be transmitted. When using seamless packaging unit numbers, packaging unit number from and packaging unit number to are used, note that this is only valid for elements using the label indicator “S”. The shipping quantity used in 714 has to equal the number of packaging x filling capacity. Example:
