A wwiizzaarrdd who has become a mmaasstteerr may work with otheraaddeeppttss, or experts, to summon all kinds of creatures such asggiiaannttss, ggnnoommeess, or a ggoobblliinn. Witches often work together ingroups known as ccoovveennss. Together they can summon strangebeasts such as the mmaannttiiccoorree, which has the body of a lion, the tail of a scorpion, and a human head! Magick can alsobe used to turn a common animal, such as a lliizzaarrdd, into a magical one, such as a wwyyvveerrnnwhich is part ddrraaggoonn, partserpent.

Magick users often rely on birds such as the ffaallccoonnor the larger arctic ggyyrrffaallccoonn to carry messages for long distances. When traveling themselves, magicians mayencounter ffoorreesstt spirits such as nnyymmpphhss or a ssyyllvvaann. A wise mmyyssttiicc will be careful to stay away from the gghhoouullsswho spend their time near graveyards, munching on thedead. In the desert, it is best to avoid the sspphhiinnxx, a creaturewith the head of a woman, the body of a lion and the wingsof an eagle. As the EEggyyppttiiaannss can tell you, her riddles aredifficult to solve. A kknniigghhtt or pprriinnccee often uses magick to rescue a ddaammsseell.

Some magicians become famous. MMeerrlliinn was a well-known wizard who lived as a hheerrmmiitt and gave King Arthurthe magickal sword EExxccaalliibbuurr.

Magicians often study other subjects as well. Anaallcchheemmiisstt can turn any metal into gold, and an hheerrbbaalliissttknows all about plantsoften an important spell ingredient! These professions have a history that goes farther back thanancient Greece, where it is said the FFuurriieess, or goddesses ofanger, would punish you if you committed a crime. Such a crime could be turning a dead person into a walking, talking zzoommbbiiee!
