Magic Ping Pong Ball: it looks so simple, why is it impossible? What you will need: - Plastic funnel - Ping pong ball - Rubber or plastic tubing (optional) How to perform the demo: Drop a ping pong ball into the funnel. Blow through the spout to determine if you have sufficient breath to blow the ball out of the funnel. It is nearly impossible! (With practice, you may even be able to perform this activity holding the funnel upside down! Can you make it an “anti- gravity” ping pong ball even for just a few moments?) Caution: You might need some sanitary wipes; this demo can get a little sloppy. The Science: We live at the bottom of an ocean of air. The air above us pushes down with almost 15 pounds of pressure on every square inch of surface. As you blow through the funnel spout, rushing air pushes a bit of the surrounding air away from the underside of the ball, temporarily lowering the air pressure at that location. Air pressure above the ball holds it in place! Note: The above science does not cover all relevant science regarding this demonstration – do some of your own research to provide interesting information during your demonstration!

Magic Ping Pong Ball: it looks so simple, why is it impossible?

What you will need:

- Plastic funnel - Ping pong ball - Rubber or plastic tubing (optional)

How to perform the demo: Drop a ping pong ball into the funnel. Blow through the spout to determine if you have sufficient breath to blow the ball out of the funnel. It is nearly impossible! (With practice, you may even be able to perform this activity holding the funnel upside down! Can you make it an “anti-gravity” ping pong ball even for just a few moments?) Caution: You might need some sanitary wipes; this demo can get a little sloppy.
