What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Bauer Media publish:

Q Magazine

Mojo

Kerrang!

IPC Media publish:

NME

Both IPC and Bauer would be ideal media institutions to distribute my magazine as both companies successfully publish well-known music magazines in the UK.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

My magazine RADAR is an indie music magazine. As IPC Media publish NME, a popular indie music magazine, it may appear that they are the best institution to distribute my magazine. However it wouldn’t be a good idea as IPC would be publishing two magazines competing against each other.

Bauer Media on the other hand publish three successful magazines, Q, Mojo, Kerrang!, all of which are not indie magazines.

Kerrang! is a rock magazine and Q can be classed as an indie magazine but with an older target audience compared with NME.

My magazine, RADAR, shares the same target audience as NME. (16 – 24yr olds)

Bauer Media do not currently distribute an indie magazine to rival NME. As there is a gap for them to publish a similar magazine I feel that Bauer Media are the best institution to distribute my magazine RADAR.
