NME’s mast head is big and bold written in capital letters it is bright red in colour to draw the readers eye in. It is placed on a white background to make it further stand out.

The main image is spread over the whole front cover. Two of the characters heads are over lapping the masthead. The three main colours that are used are, red, white and black. Red is used to draw the readers eye straight to it.

The lead story title is in big bold capital letters and in bright red underneath is the caption which is a description of the lead story this is also in bold capitals to stand out however it is white to contrast the red and make the read stand out even more. Underneath the caption is a quote in red letters to draw the audiences eye in. It is in scribbly hand writing style which make it seem personal to the audience

The convention of putting the barcode in the right hand bottom corner of the front cover is used here

This cover line is in bold capital letters to stand out and in bright red. A rhetorical question has been used to make the reader think and attract them to read more into the magazine

This cover line is bright red against the black background. Underneath is a smaller caption that is white which will contrast against the black background which is, talking about inside the magazine which tempts the reader to want to read inside the magazine

The price and date is located just above the masthead. So the readers eye will be drawn into the masthead and just above is the price and date so the reader can easily consider buying it.

The masthead is very big. The colour used is read to draw the reader in. It is a simple motif used so it is not too complicated for the reader.

In the main image a part of it is overlapping the magazine logo. The lead article is overlapping most of the image but the cats head is overlapping the L and the E. The models arm is also overlapping part of the cover lines. The model is wearing dark trousers and her hair is very dark she is also surrounded by black cats which will contrast against the light background

The four main colours that are used are red, black, white and blue.

The fonts and sizes of the texts vary . There are big bold texts with smaller texts put next to it. Bold and italics are used and different colour fonts are used

The barcode is on the right hand side on the third. The date and cost is also included in the information.

The magazine has followed conventions because most of the writing is in the 1/3 and 3/3 and the middle is filled with the picture of the model which features the main story

On this banner line are other stories which feature in the magazine for audiences that are not that interested in the main cover story. There is a black background and white writing so the writing contrasts the background and stands out more.

The phrase ‘Sexy Beast’ is used this is an informal metaphor this stands out to the target audience because older people or people from different classes may find this offensive. The word beast is used to contrast the pretty model and the wild cats are also used to show this.

The banner at the top has an offer in red that will attract the audiences eye. The magazine want the audience to see this first as it will further persuade them to buy the magazine.

The name of the magazine is in big bold capital letters so it will stand out. It is in white so it contrasts against the black background. The full name is underneath in smaller writing.

In this picture Eminem is looking forward into the distance which reflects the cover story of his comeback and the future like he is looking forward to the future. The black background makes him look bright and radiant standing out from the background.

The lead article title is in white, but the musicians name is in bigger bolder writing against a red background which will make it stand out even more this is to put the musicians name forward and when the audience see the name they will want to read more about him.

Instead of having the word plus, the magazine have used a symbol to show this. This relates to their target audience as they will know what it means and why it is there, it may make the audience have a sense of knowledge knowing what it means.

The barcode, date and price are grouped together at the bottom once again on the third. It is small and discrete.

All the cover lines are positioned around the main image to make the image stand out more and make him look more important. The image overlaps the banner line at the top which gives a sense that he is standing out of the magazine . The lead article title is overlapping the image so it is clear that the image and article match

There are more cover lines added at the bottom for readers that may not be interested in the main cover article.

The cover lines are written on different colour backgrounds with white writing. The backgrounds are alternating and not all the same colour to make them look separate and not like a big block of writing which may not look appealing to the audience. The backgrounds look rough and ruined around the edges which will reflect the image or reputation of the magazine

There is the illusion of the sticker on the front cover which looks damaged and peeling off, this gives the idea that it is a rebellious magazine.

The main image is overlapping the mast head which makes him seem rebellious and more rock star like which is the over all feel for the magazine.

The main colours that are used are red, black blue and white. The musicians are wearing black, blue and red on a white background which corresponds to the colours used with fonts and background.

The barcode is on the third and is further up then many magazines would normally put the barcode. It is slightly wonky which again reflects the rough and rock star feeling that is portrayed

There are lines running through it that makes it looked cracked and broken which portrays a rebellious feeling to the audience which will attract the younger audience that the magazine targets.

The banner at the top is what will be seen first when the magazines are piled together as it is at the top. There are interesting and appealing offers which will persuade the audience to buy the magazine.

The main image shows a male with hammer which gives the illusion that he is smashing the front of the magazine which makes it seem rebellious and gives a rock star feeling that the magazine aims for.

The Lead article title is written in a graffiti which shows attitude and rebellion.

The magazine uses the word ‘finally’ to attract the audience which makes it sound like something new and different which will make the audience feel intrigued

The main image is in a sepia tone which again reflects the feeling of a classic magazine. The male at the front is looking straight forward which gives the illusion that he is looking directly at the reader which engages the reader with the magazine.

Behind the main image is fire. This may show that the magazine is hot or that it is rebellious and rock star like which could correspond to the main image of the band.

There is a cover line about a murder which could shock the audience and make them want to read it. It is designed so it looks like a sticker stuck on which could give a rough feeling to magazine and more rock and roll.

The main image consists mainly of the colours black and white and the background is white so the darkness of the black stands out. The image is behind the masthead and the cover lines however part of the image is over lapping the lead article. One of the males hands is overlapping the ‘A’ which makes it looks like he is leaning on the letter. The look that he Is portraying makes him look powerful or dominating. The watch that the other male is hanging over the lead article title this gives a sense of depth and makes the front cover stand out more. The models are making eye contact which makes the audience feel involved.

Rhetorical question gets the reader thinking and more intrigued to look inside

The magazine shows an offer with the cash amount in big bold red letters which draws the reader in but then underneath in smaller black writing is one of the conditions of the prize.

The word ‘insane’ has looks like it has been hand written which makes it more personal to the reader and gives it more rough feeling which gives connotations of rock and roll which is what this particular edition of the magazine is trying to achieve however the writing is in red and it looks like it has been written in blood which could show rebellion and this could reflect on the magazine which could attract the readers as they may feel rebellious.

The main three colours on the cover are black, yellow and white. The black and yellow connotes danger and warning and may give the readers the idea of yellow and black police tape which shows the rebellious rough look that the magazine is trying to achieve.

The magazine follows conventions by having a list of other bands and artists on the front cover to further persuade the audience to look in the magazine.

Drake’s hat is overlapping quite a lot of the masthead but there is still enough shown to see what the name of the magazine is. This makes the magazine look more 3D and stand out more.

The magazine has followed the convention of having the masthead across the top of the magazine cover. The writing is in big bold black writing so it is clear and recognisable to the audience

The main colours used are, black, grey and white these colours do not really stand out but when a brighter colour is used it contrasts and stands out against the duller colours. This has been used on the masthead where the ‘a’ and ‘d’ have been filled with bright colours. The model is also wearing dark, dull clothes and accessories, her make up it quite simple and subtle however her hair is very big and a bright colour which is very striking and will attract the readers attention.

The image of the model is overlapping all the cover lines and the lead article title, this makes her stand out even more and gives a three dimensional look she is also looking straight forward making it look like she is making eye contact with the audience.

This front cover has used a colour scheme of white and red to keep it simple and not too busy

The main central image is overlapping the masthead which makes it stand out to the audience, also putting across the point that the readers of this magazine are dedicated readers or showing that the name of the magazine is well known because most of the central image is covering up the masthead so the name of the magazine may be unclear to unfamiliar readers.

The model in the central image is looking straight forward making eye contact with the audience making it stand out to them

The magazine has a big bold title with the magazine name logo. It says ‘this week’ so it is clear to readers what information they are reading and conventionally the date is written underneath so the reader can be sure they have the most up to date magazine

The magazine gives the readers a special offer to subscribe to the magazine, this makes the readers feel special as only readers of the magazine can get this offer. The offer is in bright yellow to attract the attention of the reader. The date that the offer ends is underneath the offer which encourages readers to get it sooner rather than later before it ends.

There is a red arrow which draws the readers eye to it, it is pointing towards the other pages and has a page number and title written on it this encourages the reader to turn to this page and read

There is a whole list of bands and page numbers so the readers can find there favourite bands and look them up in the magazine

The main contents of the magazine is split up into different categories so the reader can easily find exactly what they are looking for and underneath there is ‘plus’ more.

There are two main images of the same band which are above the editorial. In the editorial it is clear that the images correspond which the band which it is talking about.

The magazine has the simple logo in the top left hand corner of the white ‘Q’ on the red background. Next to it they have used the opposite of having red writing of the issue number against a white background these look contrasting next to each other. The title ‘contents’ is at the top in the middle in big black bold capital writing so it is clear to the reader what page it is. Then in grey smaller writing next to it is the date of the issue.

There is one main image that is used for nearly the whole background of the page the model is looking directly forward and has a very serious expression reflecting the image of the magazine that it is a mature magazine. He is taking up most of the page which makes him look dominating and important.The model is also making eye contact with the readers which will attract their attention. On the right of the image is the name of the model and a short description to inform the readers.

The banner line at the bottom contains a humorous quote which contrasts the image of the serious looking man. This also has the page number along with the name and band of the person that said it. This makes it easy to access and more likely that the readers will visit the page. Above the banner line is a small red arrow which could be used as a subconscious gesture to influence the reader to turn the page.

The page has the special features at the top in a red box to attract attention and underneath is the regular information that is in the magazine every month. The writing is all the same font and a clear neat font is used so it is easy to read.

All the age numbers are in red so they stand out and they are easy to find but the title of the pages are in black. The font is clear and easy to read and underneath each is a small description which the audiences can read to further persuade them to go to that page. It is conventionally in list format for ease of access

In a separate list is the cover story pages this is so as soon as the reader opens the page after being attracted by the cover story straight away it is easy to find

There is a quote situated next to the picture to correspond with the picture and further persuade the audience to read the article that it is from

The main colour scheme is very simple there is a grey type colour background with clear black writing for information and bright red writing which is used to draw the readers eye in.

There is one main image on the page which takes up a significant amount of the page. The model is making direct eye contact catching the readers eye and drawing it in.

Conventionally there is an editorial written by the editor this is also signed by the editor which makes it feel more personal towards the reader

The main header is at the top on a black background with yellow writing which makes in stand out more underneath the convention of having the issue number and the cover date is used.

The main image is a simple head shot of the model looking away from the camera making it seem mysterious and making the reader want to read more. The page number, title and small description is in the top right hand corner of the picture.

The other images are all exactly the same size and are placed neatly next to each other they all have the page number, title and small description underneath. The magazine have chosen different types of musicians to try and attract a wider audience

On the title ‘This Week’ black writing has been used on a yellow background however on the subject categories (e.g feedback, news) yellow writing has been used on a black background this is contrasting and makes them stand out more. The contents is conventionally in a list type format so it is easy for the reader to find what they are looking for.

The contents title is very eye catching because it is spread out over three line and is very big black and bold it is in capital letters, very clear to read and extremely hard to miss it stands out very well.

Unlike the masthead, the contents information is quite small. The headings ‘Features’ and ‘Fashion’ are written in quite elegant writing but the description and page numbers are in clear simple fonts. The contents information is laid out neatly in a column in a list type format so it is easy for the reader to get access of any page.

To the left of the image there is a small piece o text describing the photo and the model

In the image there is a bright red heart this is the only bit of bright colour on the page therefore this draws the readers eye straight to it.

There are graphic features with the page numbers and titles, the background of the page numbers and titles is red to attract the readers eye. Having this makes it easy for the reader to navigate around the magazine.

The contents information is set out in a neat column in the centre of the page because it is the most important piece of information on the contents page. The page numbers and the page titles are in bold black clear writing so they stand out and next to or underneath is a description of the page to further persuade the reader to go to that page

The black banner line across the top is very bold because it is dark against a light background, it has the magazine name/logo on the left hand side the title contents is to the right of it in bold white capital letters to contrast the dark background. On the right hand side it has followed conventions by having the circulation number and the date of the issue.

The main image is in the top right hand region of the page underneath the banner line. At the bottom of the picture is the name of the band, a quote to persuade the audience to read the article and the page number so it is easy for them to find it.

This page has been split into three sections, features, every month and review this is for ease of access and means the reader can find exactly what they are looking for as easy as possible

All the texts are set out very neatly in column like shapes so it is easy to read them the pictures also fit in with this idea as none of the pictures over lap they all fit in orderly and precisely.

There is a main picture that takes up most of the contents page in the top left hand corner it has a piece of text describing the photograph. Underneath is a title for the photo and a story which corresponds with the photo. There is also a page number in big black bold lettering. The font is plain and simple so it is easy to read the title is bigger so it stands out more and attracts the reader to carry on reading.

Here is a smaller picture which looks completely different to the larger main picture this will be to attract a larger range of audiences if they do not like one picture there is a completely different one which may interest them.

The contents information is in a neat column so it is easy to read from the page numbers are on the left hand side so it is straight forward to find the page numbers. The page numbers are more colourful then the rest of the writing to make them stand out and easy to find.

The circulation number is bold and colourful compared to the rest of the magazine so it stands out a lot.

This page is split into two sections, one for information and one for pictures

The magazine name is at the top with a slogan underneath it. The font is bold and looks quite rough and rugged which gives a rock and roll feel to the page.

At the top of the left hand side of the page is the circulation number and the date which are conventionally together. The writing is bold and black but looks quite rough which shows a rebellious side. The contents heading also has the same rough type of look.

Contrasting to the headings the contents information is split up very neatly and formally. All the information is in neat columns and each section has a heading in a dark red colour to stand out from the light background the writing on the headings is also light to contrast against the dark background.

There are lots of different pictures of different musicians to attract different types of audience so overall the magazine can have a larger range audience. Under the pictures are the page numbers and titles so it is easy for the readers to access and quickly find the pages.

The two sides of the page contrast each other as the left side looks more neat, tidy and orderly the right side looks more rough and has more attitude.
