Kids & Family:Story Time (3-5 yrs.): Read picture books, learn through song and dance, develop early literacy skills, and make a simple craft.Family Movies: Spend the afternoon watching a family movie. We will be popping popcorn but feel free to bring anything else you would like to snack on.Tuesday Special Performances: Special performances are sponsored in part by the Friends of the Library.7/5 - Puppet Show: Animalia is a ballet of intricate carved foam animal puppets made by Hobey Ford.7/12 - Juggling & Comedy Show: Be amazed by Tom Sparough, veteran juggler and comedian. Very funny and very entertaining! 7/19 - MADCAP Puppets: In the bountiful array of children's literature, no author is better known and respected than the Greek storyteller, Aesop. Using animals as characters, he served up life lessons and morals in a tasty and digestible cupcake of a story. After more than 2,500 years, his insightful truths are still relevant and entertaining in the twenty-first century. In Madcap's production, Aesop recalls three of our best-loved stories re-told by a cast of giant puppets, and you! Stories include: The Boy Who Cried Wolf, The Lion and the Mouse and The Hare and the Tortoise.7/26 - Animal Tales: Animal Tales presents "Nature’s Olympians." This live animal program features exotic animals from all around the world that utilize very unique abilities to compete and survive in the wild. Be prepared to get up-close and personal learning about these very competitive creatures! Animals could include: Bennett's Wallaby, Green Basilisk, Patagonian Cavy, African Spurred Tortoise, Emerald Toucanet, and Carpet Python. Baby & Toddler Time (Birth-3 yrs.): Enjoy books, do finger plays, sing songs, learn rhymes, & explore through movement and play time.Ready, Set, Art! These crafts could get messy so please dress appropriately.7/6 - Beach Balls: Turn a beach ball into a unique work of art!7/13 - Marble Run: Upcycle some boxes and create marble runs using straws, tape, and your imagination for a fun game you can enjoy the rest of summer. 7/20 - Yo-Yo's: Enjoy painting, and assembling a wooden yo-yo for you to use to perfect your yo-yo skills. 7/27 - Jump Rope: Drop by and enjoy assembling, and decorating a jump rope to keep. We hope that after completing this project you enjoy jumping rope and learning some new rhymes.

Thursday Special Performances: Special performances are sponsored in part by the Friends of the Library.7/7 - Dancing Wheels National Dance Co.: If dance is an expression of the human spirit, then it is best expressed by people of all abilities. One of the premier arts and disabilities organizations in the U.S., Dancing Wheels is a professional, physically integrated dance company uniting the talents of dancers both with and without disabilities. This show is called "Art In Motion." 7/14 - Live Reptiles & Amphibians: See, learn about, and touch reptiles and amphibians native to Kentucky. Presented by Chris Carpenter. 7/21 - Turtle Time: Are you ready to experience true turtle power?! You will learn the differences between turtles and tortoises, learn about the different species of turtles and tortoises, their adaptations for survival, and what you can do to help turtles survive. There will be live turtles and tortoises that you can touch.7/28 - McTeggart Irish Dancers: Join us for a celebration of Irish dance & music by local students from the McTeggart Irish Dance School in Lexington. LEGO Club: We supply the LEGOs, you supply the creativity.Yoga for Families: Yoga makes our bodies and minds healthy. This fun and funny yoga class is for ages 6-86 and will get us moving in a mindful way. Be ready to laugh, stretch, breathe and play.PAWS to Read: Elementary-aged children can practice reading out loud in front of a kind audience: certified therapy dogs. They are trained by the professionals at PAWSibilities Unleashed.Family LEGO Night: Join our Family LEGO Night! We supply the LEGOS, you bring the creativity. This is a special LEGO event for the entire family!Teens & Tweens (10-18 yrs.):Get in the Game:7/11 - Martial Arts: Middle and high school students are invited to join us to learn a martial arts approach to self-protection that includes antibullying techniques and demonstration in collaboration with Estes Martial Arts Academy instructors and owners. During this program you will learn how martial arts builds confidence, discipline, focus, respect, bully proofing, and fitness. This program will be limited to the first 20 students.7/25 - Drama: Join your fellow detectives at Madison County Public Library in solving the "murder mystery." You must investigate the crime scenes and carefully examine the evidence in order to solve the case. This program is intended for ages 10 and up.

LEGO Teen Party: This LEGO party is for all those ages 10-18 who enjoy being master builders. Join us for this organizational meeting to choose books for the next few weeks. We will explore opportunities for people to participate virtually in the monthly meetings if they are not able to attend in person. Discussion materials will be printed in the paper prior to the meetings and will be available on-line. Our first discussion book is Miracle at Augusta by James Patterson. Blood Drive: The Richmond location hosts a blood drive on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. PiYo Class: With PiYo there’s no need to punish your body to get amazing results from your workout. Combining Pilates and yoga, PiYo delivers a low-impact workout that burns fat and leaves your body looking long, lean, and incredibly defined. Registration required.Join the Library's Couch to 5K Team! Starting in July, the Madison County Public Library will sponsor a group of runners as they venture through the Couch to 5k running program. Starting with intervals of walking/jogging it slowly builds to 5k race endurance over a nine week period. The team will train together on a weekly basis culminating with running in a 5k race in the fall. Those interested in participating should plan to attend this organizational meeting. Join us and get on your way from couch to 5k!

Kids & Family:Building with Cardboard Cubes: Build anything you can imagine and have fun learning about cubic area and other math concepts with one inch cubes. This program is led by Berea College Math Professor Judy Rector. Appropriate for ages 5 and up.Tuesday Special Performance: Special performances are sponsored in part by the Friends of the Library.7/5 - Intricate Art Puppet Show: Hobey Ford, a nationally known puppeteer and award winning performer, will engage audiences of all ages with his beautifully designed Golden Rod Puppets. 7/12 - Juggling Extravaganza: Join Tom Sparough: The Space Painter for this humorous presentation that is not your typical juggling experience!7/19 - MADCAP Puppets (OFF-SITE): SPECIAL OFF-SITE PERFORMANCE! Join us at Shannon Johnson Elementary School to see these giant puppets fill the stage with Aesop’s fables including The Boy Who Cried Wolf, The Lion and the Mouse, and The Hare and the Tortoise. 7/26 - Animal Tales: Animal Tales will present Nature’s Olympians featuring exotic animals from all around the world that utilize their very unique abilities to compete and survive in the wild.Summer Movies: Join us for a FREE family friendly movie in the Theater! Music Time (Birth-5 yrs.): During this fun and engaging program we will sing songs, move to music, play with shakers, rhythm sticks, and scarves. Presented by Madison County Family Resource & Youth Services Center directors, Lisa Gay and Angie Daniels. Crafternoon: Each craft will have 3 sessions to choose from at 2:00, 3:00, and 6:00. There is no registration and all are welcome to attend. Aprons will be provided.7/6 - Felt Puppets: These hand puppets come in pieces that you assemble with yarn and glue. 7/13 - Hacky Sacks: These fun hacky sacks (or kick sacks) are solid white and they need you to stain them with vibrant colors. We provide the colors, you provide the creativity! The colors may stain clothes, so please dress accordingly. 7/20 - Recycled Robots: We have collected tons of recycled materials such as bottles, gears, old computer parts, wood pieces, and more to build unique recycled robots!7/27 - Painting Animal Puzzles: Join us in the Community Room where we will be painting animal puzzles! Kits come with 3-D wood puzzle pieces that need to be painted and assembled to create animals. This craft can be messy, so please wear play clothes. Story Time (3-5 yrs.): Read picture books and learn through song, dance, and play.

Considered one of the premier arts and disabilities organizations in the US, Dancing Wheels is a professional, physically integrated dance company uniting the talents of dancers both with and without disabilities. 7/14 - Reptile & Amphibian Show: Chris Carpenter is a biologist from East Kentucky Power Cooperative and will bring native Kentucky reptiles and amphibians for you to learn about and handle for yourself! 7/21 - Turtle Time: Specialists from the Newport Aquarium will bring live turtles and discuss the differences between turtles and tortoises. There will be an opportunity to touch each turtle and tortoise.7/28 - McTeggart Irish Dancers: These young students from Kentucky’s only accredited school of Irish dance will brighten your day with their lively foot work. Robotic LEGO Invasion: Berea College computer science students and their professor, Scott Heggen, will demonstrate how robotic LEGOs use sensors to move about in their environment. Children who attend will be able to interact and play with these robotic creations.LEGO Club: Hang out, play, build, & create with our extensive LEGO collection. We supply the LEGOs, you supply the creativity. Berea Festival Dancers: This group of middle & high school dancers will perform traditional American folk dances with lots of audience participation. Appropriate for ages 3 and up.Henna Tattoos: Enjoy the beauty of henna tattooing and receive a free henna tattoo from artist Tammy Cornett.Estes Martial Arts: Martial Arts provide fitness, stress relief, increased self-esteem, and a fun way to socialize with others who share your interests. Dennis Estes from Richmond’s Estes Martial Arts Studio will demonstrate some of the basics.Outside Fun Water Activities: Join us behind the library for fun water games with water balloons, sponges, and water squirters. Wear clothes that can get wet, and bring a towel/change of clothes.

Teen Scene (11-18 yrs.):7/7 - Board Game Day: We encourage you to bring your favorite board games, card games, and hand-held video games and share why you love them.7/14 - Poetry Faces: Mark, Brandon, and David will disassemble some classic poems and your job is to create poetry face art based on the word(s) you get. We will take selfies and create a video that will be uploaded on our YouTube page.

7/21 - Craft Looms: Each teen will be given the supplies to create a unique work of art on a craft loom.7/28 - Water Activities: Join us behind the library for fun water games for teens & tweens with water balloons, sponges, and water squirters. Wear clothes that can get wet, and bring a towel/change of clothes.

Adults:Maker Mania: Pull those projects off the back burner and get to work! Whether you want to teach yourself to code or knit, finish your robot or letters and cards, you can do it in the company of other makers, procrastinators, and generally curious folks at the library! Work space and light refreshments provided. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration required.Libraraoke: Choose from thousands of songs at this family friendly, fun for all ages karaoke program!How Does Your Garden Grow Series: Our series continues with representatives from Grow Appalachia and the Berea Neighborhood Food Project who will do a kraut-making demonstration and discuss varieties of vegetables to grow for preserving. This session will include taste-testing and a working list of books and equipment to help with your canning and preserving. This year-long gardening series is presented in partnership with Sustainable Berea, the Berea Neighborhood Food Project, Grow Appalachia, and others. There will be free recipe cards for all attendees.
