MAGAZINE COVERProject Description: Design a magazine cover that showcases a self-portrait as well as articles about yourself.

Project Date: September 29th, 2016

Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign

Process: 1. I sketched a few simple layouts of cover designs to get an idea of how I would design my own cover.

2. I used Adobe InDesign to create a shape map of my cover. This was to help me visualize where each element would go.

3. I found a photo of myself, a photo for my background, and a photo of my dog to use on the cover. I used Adobe Photoshop to edit each photo, cutting out the back-ground of my portrait, lowering the opacity in my background, and turning the pic-ture of my dog into a silhouette.

4. I opened a new document in InDesign and started to place my elements. Back-ground first, then my two images (myself and my dog), and then my text.

5. After tweaking the colors and placement of the images and text boxes I exported my InDesign file as a JPEG at 150 ppi.

PREZI PRESENTATIONProject Description: Create an instructional presentation using the Prezi software to demonstrate it’s features and capabilities.

Project Date: October 6th, 2016

Programs Used: Prezi Online Software

Process: I am pretty familiar with using Prezi. I used it a lot in high school so I saved a lot of time by not having to watch the instructional videos.

1. The idea that I chose was “Top 10 Reasons to Eat Locally.” Local farmers and gardeners are being overshadowed by big name supermarkets and stores. Local produce is healthy, homegrown, and delivered straight from the farm so the consumer knows it’s origins. You don’t get that with food from the supermarket. It may have been flown or driven over from Mexico or somewhere in South America. I chose this topic because I’m a firm believer in eating locally and I think that others would be too if they knew all of the benefits.

2. I started by sketching out a scene. I wanted some sort of a field with clouds in the sky IMG_9974.JPGthat I could use for my text. In Prezi, you can make elements really small and then zoom in on them, so I sketched my elements (or “points”) in various places on the grid.

3. Next I created a list of the top 10 reasons that I think people should eat locally. I did some research on eating locally grown food and came up with 10 great ideas. After making a list, I went to pixabay.com to find images that corresponded with each idea. I even found a video for one of them.

4. I used an image that fit my sketch almost perfectly for my background and used .png files that I had of clouds for my title. Then I added each picture and list item to my Prezi.

PHOTO DESIGNProject Description: By using photography and design skills, create a project that encompasses a consistent color scheme from the image.

Project Date: October 15th, 2016

Programs Used: Nikon D3200 Camera, Adobe Photoshop

Process: 1. I was inspired by all of the rain and the kind of gloomy weather that we’ve been having in Rexburg lately. I decided to use a dark blue monochromatic color scheme.

2. I thought about what to photograph and one day I was sitting in my living room studying and saw how beautiful the rain was running down our window. The sky was light but cloudy and the raindrops up close created a great contrast.

3. I created a new 8.5 x 11 inch document in Photoshop.

4. Then I pulled my photo on top of it and started designing.

5. I wanted to use my favorite quote by Dieter F. Uchtdorf so I placed the text in the document and then added dark blue bars to contrast the white text and help it show up better.

BUSINESS IDENTITY LOGOProject Description: Create a logo for a company/service/organization and establish a visual identity across documents.

Project Date: October 27th, 2016

Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign

Process: 1. I came up with the business “STEM Tutoring Services” because my friend was talking to me on the phone about her science tutoring she has been going to.

2. I brainstormed ideas and color schemes for my logos and took a few hours to create them in Adobe Illustrator.6c_madison-bluth

3. I got some input and chose the third design, the monochromatic gears, as the design for my company.

4. For this project, I decided to keep my business card and stationary samples very streamlined and simple. I incorporated my logo into the stationary but added a black box and changed the color of the text for some added contrast.

5. I modeled this business card after my dad’s. It is streamlined, professional, informational, and has a blown up copy of the logo on the back of the card.

INFOGRAPHICProject Description: Create an infographic that organizes data in a visually pleasing way.

Project Date: November 3rd, 2016

Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign

Process: 1. I was thinking about what I wanted to do and decided that I wanted to do something related to church and the church statistics that are presented during conference.

2. I went to the Mormon Newsroom website to look up the statistics and found the ones that I wanted.

3. I brainstormed ideas for my graphics and used Illustrator to execute my ideas.

4. I added text to accompany my graphics.

WEB PAGE MOCKUPProject Description: Design a website homepage using a grid.

Project Date: November 17th, 2016

Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop

Process: 1. I first picked an idea of what I was going to use for the basis of my website. I am on a big Christmas/Holiday kick right now so I decided to do a holiday cookie company for my project.

2. Then I sketched three separate designs. I found a lot of pictures of various holiday cookies and wanted to incorporate them somehow to get my message across.

3. After I sketched it on paper, I then jumped into Photoshop and opened the 24-column grid to map out my design. This took the longest because I have never seen one of these grids before and so it took me a long time to play around with it and figure out exactly what I wanted to do with it.

4. After my wireframe, I started to add the actual content.

5. My final design is pretty accurate to what my wireframe looks like. I deviated a lot from my sketch, but incorporated a lot of similar elements.

BROCHUREProject Description: Design a brochure for a company.

Project Date: December 1st, 2016

Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign

Process: 1. I first created the logo in Illustrator.

2. Then I went into InDesign and started to design my brochure. I wrote my body copy and came up with a recipe to use for the inside of the brochure.

3. I started piecing together my brochure by figuring out my fold lines and placing each element accordingly.

4. I then exported my brochure as a PDF for printing and printed it out.

5. I took pictures of the brochure to show people how it folds.

PERSONAL LOGOProject Description: This project was one for personal use. I decided to create my own logo to mimic some of the cool, watercolor designs that I see all over the place.

Project Date: December 9th, 2016

Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator

Process: 1. I first created a new file in Illustrator.

2. I chose the pen tool and began experimenting with various shapes and lines until I found a few that I liked.

3. I chose watercolor brush strokes from a plugin I downloaded from the internet.

4. I played around with different strokes for each line I created until I finalized a good image.

5. Next I changed the colors of each brush stroke until I settled on the final colors in the design.

6. I chose two fonts (Garamond Regular and Roboto Light) and typed out my text, then changed the color to a dark tan to complement the pink and tan/yellowish tones in the watercolor.

7. Lastly I added two diamond outlines around the text to give my logo a finished look. I exported my logo as a whole in a .png format and as just the watercolor as you see beneath the page numbers at the bottom of each page.

PHOTO MONTAGEProject Description: By using photoshop, create a photo with another photo layer to properly blend and use typography.

Project Date: December 9th, 2016

Programs Used: Adobe Photoshop

Process: 1. I selected a photo that I took of a mother and her daughter. The photo was taken on the one year anniversary of their husband/father’s death. I thought that the field and the golden lighting perfectly encapsulated the feeling of this day.

2. Given the situation, I decided to choose a quote from Dieter F. Uchtdorf about ressurection and death.

3. Then I chose a painting called, “Coming Home,” where the Savior is embracing a man that has just died and returned to Heaven.

4. I selected the Savior and the man from the picture and feathered the edges to make them blend into the sky.

PERSONAL PHOTOSThese are all pictures that I have taken this semester for various clients and projects. I have done a lot of family pictures and portraits for people in and around the Rexburg, Idaho area. The ones shown here are some of my favorites.
