The MACtac Innovative Awards are an international competition designed to highlight the creative potential of self-adhesive product applications.

The MACtac Innovative Awards

The MACtac Innovative Awards were created to display high impact “visual communication” works produced using MACtac self-adhesive materials. The Awards contribute to the development of the sector as a whole – decorative application specialists, advertising agencies, graphic art studios and end users.

MACmark films and IMAGin products for digital printing developed 31 and 16 years ago respectively, have, without a doubt made a considerable contribution to the development and growth of the promotional and decorative market. Their widespread usage today is an illustration of their significant potential and their wide range of applications.

The highly creative projects presented in this Innovative Awards Book will doubtless underscore the importance of self-adhesive products in visual communication. These works illustrate how the «creative design» and «intelligent» use of self-adhesive products – as well as sign maker’s technical skills – continue to make it a favourite material for the visual communication sector.

Two Juries have selected works made with products from the MACmark, MACscreen, IMAGin and PERMACOLOR ranges and have selected European, South-American and “Other regions” prize-winners in five different categories:

- Prize for the most surprising, innovative and original project- Prize for the most technically challenging application- Prize for the project that does the most to beautify a city, the environment- Prize for the best non-promotional interior design - Prize for the most monumental project A special MACtac Prize has also been awarded.

Prizes open to contestants in all categories have also been awarded on a country basis.

Robert GOOSSENS (President of the Jury)After completing artistic studies at Saint-Luc, Brussels, Robert has been working as a fashion illustrator, before assuming the direction of an advertising design studio. In 1971 he created his own advertising consulting agency, where he was a.o. head of the team of art directors. He is currently still managing one of the most important Belgian communication agencies, member of the first world-wide network of independent agencies: ICOM.

Jean HANSSpecialized in the application of self-adhesive graphics for more 20 years and digital printer, Jean Hans founded “Application Team”, the Company he still manages with great success. Jean is recognized as an expert in difficult applications.

The Interior Design Prize has been attributed by renowned interior designer to the entries she considered the most relevant and innovative:IDC Virginie GARIKIAN (Interior Design Coaching)Graduate in Finance (BE) , Coaching (FR) and Interior Design (USA), Virginie launched her own Business “Interior Design Coaching – IDC Virginie Garikian” in Belgium and is specialized in the 3D representations of interiors. She has customers in 128 countries and is also coach deco for Marie-Claire Maison.com, Webdeco.com and for the television channel “RTL-TVI” in Belgium.

This realisation won the innovative prize, thanks to the complex combination of plotter cut vinyls, printed images and the dynamic use of LED lighting. By using software to control the lighting, the LED network running through the image is programmed to give a pulse effect. The result is a stunning visual impression of blood travelling through the body from one side of the window through to the other.

The International session of the 7th MACtac Awards took place in Singapore, with over 200 finalists selected from thousands of entries. Leading sign industry magazine editors were joined on the jury by technical, advertising, and creative experts across the fields of application, printing and design.Once again, a huge variety of interesting, innovative and individual projects have made the judging extremely difficult.

Take a seat:They’re the scene for chatting or reflecting, watching people walk by or contemplating a remote view, for a rendez-vous, a picnic lunch or devouring a good book: the bench is so much more than just a place to sit. As part of a project to tie in with Art Dubai, the UAE boutique S*uce commissioned 15 artists, thinkers and designers to create their own perfect benches which were placed around Art Dubai and the ‘’fringe’’ Bastakiya Art Fair. To create this ori-ginal project, choosing the right self-adhesive product was critical. For the bench IMAGin WW300 was used thanks to its aggressive adhesive system to ensure perfect adhesion to the benches and laminated with IMAGin LF 3899 for protection. The floor graphics utilised IMAGin JT 5829P and were laminated with PF 6301 to protect the image and provide a safe non- slip surface.

Skytower building (Christmas tree)A brand new Mercedes- Benz car was hoisted 90M above the ground and fixed onto the side of the Sky Tower in Auckland as part of a Christmas promotion. To decorate the tower a giant self- adhesive Christmas tree was applied. The Christmas tree decoration was over 20M high and 4M wide.This great challenge in execution involved nearly 90 individual pieces of vinyl being put together like a jigsaw puzzle by a trained team of 6 abseilers. The abseilers had to stick each individual piece on by dropping down the tower in unison.At such a height and against the elements of rain, wind and cold a product that was easy to apply and an adhesive that would stick to the textured treated concrete instantly was critical. IMAGin WW100 delivered impeccable performance to ensure the success of this demanding application.
