Red tagged helmets compulsory. Tagging available in the Equestrian Caravan.

All Horses/Ponies MUST have a name tag attached to their halter with the contact details of the owner/rider.

at the Equestrian Caravan (including collecting of

back numbers and the redemption of prize money

which will be given AFTER the Grand Parade).

IMPORTANT HEALTH & SAFETY

INFORMATION- All persons entering the

grounds must comply with the Health and Safety

at Work Act 2015 (and subsequent amendments.)

Please abide by the safety rules and signage at the

Showgrounds. Follow instructions from Marshals

and Show Officials. Regulation Safety

Helmets/Hats must be worn by ALL competitors

in horse and pony events. RAS Rulebook states in

GR 4 d) All riders, including harness drivers,

competing at RAS affiliated A&P Shows/Events

must wear protective headgear, which includes a

retaining harness secured to the shell at more

than two points. Such headgear must be worn

with the chinstrap properly adjusted and

fastened when in the arena or ring, the practice

area collecting rings or anywhere else within a

Showgrounds. Hats/helmets must conform with

one of the current approved safety standards.

These standards may be subject to change but the

latest list can be found at http://www.ras.org.nz –

equestrian. RAS will advise any changes via their

website and Facebook.

All horses must be haltered when led. All

Horses/Ponies MUST have a name tag attached

to their halter with the contact details of the

owner/rider. Please be aware of Pedestrian

Lanes. Please enter/exit Ring slowly.

Equestrian Entry Fees ($1/class RAS levy is non-

inclusive and must be paid separately): Members:

$5.00, Non Members: $7.00

Equestrian Prize Money: First $15.00, Second

$10.00, Third $7.00, Fourth $5.00

The RAS equestrian levy of $1.10 per class must be

paid by the entrant (as shown separately on

the entry form).

All Entry Fees and Prize Money are as stated unless

otherwise specified.

Entries to be made on time please. Entries close

23 February 2018. Any late entries will be

charged a late entry fee of $10/entry form. No

entries will be accepted on the day. There may be

a special Jumping Class(es). Details will be

available at the Equestrian Caravan on the day.

Entries on the day will be accepted for this class

(es) at the Equestrian Caravan as long as they are

made before 11:00 a.m. and paid in full at the time

of entry.

All competitors must wear numbers, one per

combination. Your number will be made

available on the day of the show. Number holders

are allowed. Back numbers will be available for

hire from the Equestrian Caravan ($2 refundable

deposit required).

The Equestrian Section is run under the Royal

Agricultural Society Equestrian Competitors,

Exhibitors and Judges Rules. This Rulebook is

available from the RAS website (www.ras.org.nz).

RIGHTS OF THE EQUESTRIAN CONVENOR: The Equestrian Convenor, in consultation with

Section Convenors, reserves the right to refuse or

cancel any entry without giving any reason for doing

so and reserves the right to make any alteration to

the Show Timetable or withdraw any event as may

be deemed desirable. If there are insufficient entries

in a class, at close of entries, classes may be

combined. Any unruly or dangerous animal, or

exhibit, may be required to leave the Showgrounds.

In the event of a horse/pony being entered in the

wrong class, a transfer may be made at the discretion

of the Section Convenor for a fee of $2 per class. No

hacks in pony ring in riding classes. In the event of

an entered horse or pony becoming unsound prior to

the show, a substitute may be entered in the SAME

CLASS, RIDDEN BY THE SAME RIDER,

provided a vet certificate is produced for the original

entry. The Secretary is to be notified prior to the

show.

A Novice is a Horse / Pony that has not had 6

(six) wins in conformation classes at the day of the

show. (Paced & Mannered wins do not count in

conformation classes and conformation classes do

not count in Paced & Mannered classes.) Novice

Ponies are to be shown in snaffle bit only. Please

note that a record of wins will be asked for. All

Novice Pony Classes are open to riders of any age

(refer to Equestrian Rulebook MSS 2.1c No rider to

compete in two age groups. Rider/Handler's age

and eligibility is determined as per the 1 August

i.e. Riders/handlers who are of age for any

division/section on the 1 August complete the

show year/season in that division/section. Refer to

Equestrian Rulebook CDE 11 for additional rules

about the AGE OF RIDERS & HANDLERS.

A Pony may only be entered in the Show Pony

Section or the Saddle Hunter Pony Section - not

both.

i. Yellow Card - This Show/Event supports the RAS

‘Yellow Card’ system.A Yellow Card will be issued,

In cases of offences in respect of abuse of animals or

inappropriate behaviour as per the RAS Constitution

and the RAS Rules & Regulations/Bylaws including

the Equestrian Rulebook, the RAS affiliated

Show/Event/registered Measuring Stand and their

grounds and their duly appointed delegates may

deliver to the Person Responsible a Yellow Warning

Card (either immediately or within 10 days of the

show) which suspends any penalty

until possible new offences. Full wording of the

‘Yellow Card’ system is available to view on the

RAS website – www.ras.org.nz.

ii. Forbidden Substance - The Rules of the Royal

A&P Society New Zealand in regard to Forbidden

Substances apply. Competitors are advised that tests

for forbidden substances may be carried out during

the Show/Event and that testing of all animals is at

the person responsible’s risk. Forbidden Substance -

Any substance capable of affecting the speed,

stamina, courage or conduct of a horse, pony,

donkey or mule by its action upon the central or

peripheral nervous system or the cardio-vascular,

respiratory, alimentary, digestive, muscoskeletal or

urogenital systems.

iii. Arrears -No person who is in arrears with regard

to entry fees, subscriptions, or any other Show/Event

charge is eligible to compete at any affiliated

Show/Event. Proof of payment will be required

before any restriction is lifted.

iv. Summary of RAS Resolution Process – the full

process can be found on the RAS website

www.ras.org.nz. The principle behind the process is

to deal with the matter as it comes to hand and in

most cases it should be dealt with directly by the

show. If the matter is in regards to an RAS official,

the show may request the assistance of RAS Head

Office as to how to deal with this in an appropriate

manner.

RAS Horse/Pony Certificate MUST be carried

and number clearly stated on Entry Form.

photocopy to the Secretary

will result in elimination. Please refer to Equestrian

Rulebook CDE1.

SHOW DAY. PLEASE CONTACT RAS or

arrange measurement.

STALLIONS: The Secretary MUST be informed

on the entry form that a stallion is being entered.

Online entries must email the Secretary

Equestrian Rulebook CDE 14. STALLIONS and

COLTS a) All stallions and colts (with the

exception of Miniature horses and foals) must

be shown in a bit. b) A Steward will order any

stallion/colt considered out of control or to be

causing undue disquiet to other horses from the

ring without recourse from the

stallion/colt's/exhibitor/competitor. c) It is

compulsory for all stallions and colts, except

foals, to wear two (2) official 'S” identification

badges, one attached to each side of their bridle,

at all Shows/Events at all times. The rider must

Handlers and Riders of stallions/colts must wear

an approved Hi Viz vest at Shows/Events when

outside the showing ring. Vests can be purchased

from RAS Head Office.

GRAND PARADE IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF

AN A&P SHOW AND WE STRONGLY

BOXES & YARDS

The Committee has the right to ask for a box/yard to

be vacated in the case of an emergency or if your

horse/pony is in the wrong box/yard or if the

box/yard has not been paid for.

Limited box/yard accommodation is available on the

show grounds. These are allocated at the discretion

of the convenor. YOU MUST state on the Entry

Form which nights/day are required. If entered

online, you must email the Secretary

([email protected]).

All Horses/Ponies MUST have a name tag

attached to their halter with the contact details of

the owner/rider.

Charges: $30 refundable cleaning bond per

ENTRY FORM. Bond may be sent in the form of

a held cheque. Bond/held cheque returned on

Show day, from the Equestrian Caravan after

inspection. $25.00 per night box, $20.00 per day

box, $15.00 per night yard, $10.00 per day yard,

Weekend Package (from 9am Saturday Night

and Day) box $75.00 or yard $40 - to be paid with

entry and left clean. If boxes/yards are left dirty,

you will not receive your bond and may also be

charged a cleaning fee.

All cups and trophies will be engraved by the

Society and will be displayed in the Mackenzie A &

P Committee Room. Winners may arrange to have a

photo taken with the trophy on Show day (please

enquire at the Equestrian Caravan) or during the

year, or alternately, request a photo of the trophy.

Arrangements may be made for the collection of a

trophy or cup. Please contact the Secretary for more

information.

HORSE SPECIAL PRIZES: Supreme Champion

Hack will be awarded a tartan rosette. Supreme

Champion Hack will be presented for Supreme

Exhibit at conclusion of the Parade. The Society's

Champion Tartan Scarf awarded to Champion Hack

in each section. A Reserve Champion Ribbon also

awarded in all sections.

A Champion Purple Sash and Reserve Champion

Sash will be awarded to Novice Champions.

First Placed Open Height Class winners to be

paraded in Championship Classes, Second Place

winners to stand by.

PONY SPECIAL PRIZES: A Supreme Champion

Rosette will be awarded to the pony judged Supreme

This is a transition ring from being led to riding on

your own. Riders in this section may not enter any

other section, unless in a First Ridden class(s) in a

Breed section. First Ridden Combination is only

able to compete in the First Ridden Combination

Section for a maximum of twenty-four (24) months

from the date of their first Show. The age limit in the

First Ridden Section is under 10 years. In this

section, the judging criteria is 60% suitability,

temperament and safeness, and 40% conformation

and paces. Please refer to the RAS Equestrian

Rulebook, CDE 3, for additional information.

Judging to follow First Ridden. Vetlife Ring. In this

section, the judging criteria is 60% suitability,

temperament and safeness, and 40% conformation

and paces. Riders in this section may not enter any

other section, unless in a Lead Rein class(s) in a

Breed section. Riders must be under eight (8) years

of age, with a minimum age of four (4) years. Ponies

to be led by a leader/attendant (14 years and over)

with the lead rein attached to the caveson noseband

of a snaffle bridle – refer to Appendix A. Ponies will

be asked to walk and trot – no cantering under any

circumstances. Running or bearing reins or similar

tackle are not allowed. Please refer to the RAS

Equestrian Rulebook, CDE 2, for additional

information.

HACKNEY

Judging to commence no sooner than 1pm.

If less than three entries in the class, classes will

be combined

TO BE DRIVEN.

All riders, including harness drivers, competing

at RAS affiliated A&P Shows/Events must wear

protective headgear, which includes a retaining

harness secured to the shell at more than two points.

Such headgear must be worn with the chinstrap

properly adjusted and fastened when in the arena or

ring, the practice area collecting rings or anywhere

else within a Showgrounds. Hats/helmets must

conform with one of the current approved safety

standards. These standards may be subject to change

but the latest list can be found at

http://www.ras.org.nz – equestrian. RAS will advise

any changes via their website and Facebook.
