The Prince Machiavelli’s most famous work
Machiavelli’s statue found in Florence
Another of Machiavelli’s books, The Art of War
Primary Source – The Prince“A prince should therefore have no other aim or
thought, nor take up any other thing for his study but war and it organization and discipline, for that is the only art that is necessary to one who commands.”
“Since love and fear can hardly exist together, if we must choose between them, it is far safer to be feared than loved.”
These quotes show Machiavelli’s general train of thought in The Prince. Do whatever it takes to be the best, and most productive nature. He also wanted the rulers to have political morality, a morality that made it acceptable so that they could make the best country.
Lasting EffectsMachiavellism in politics. Based on his book The Prince,
it is the employment of cunning and duplicity in politics. Many politicians in developing nations have used his
ideas to become leader.Based on his other works, some historians question if The
Prince is a satire.
