David brings with him a suite of organisational management skills and techniques that he has successfully applied and developed for his Real Estate career that now spans 16 years. In Real Estate, David has become renowned for his genuine, straight up approach. Refined Luxury Living Within the original Italian walled garden of businessman Sir Douglas Myers, this high quality, luxury residence makes an immediate statement. A classical, European ambience unfolds around a substantial 521m2 design that carefully executes a balance of modern living with the finest luxury details and character.

The cleverly zoned layout wraps around a private, secure setting with north facing terraces that capture the all day sun. A gas-heated pool takes centre stage and is accompanied by the secluded spa and outdoor living areas. Two further balconies share the dramatic backdrop of city lights for a quiet retreat or all combine to offer every option for entertaining on a grand scale.

Three separate living spaces, a home theatre, four bedrooms and study (or 5th bedroom) provide accommodation for large, extended families or guests. The master suite features a gas fire, bi-fold windows, walk-through dressing and ensuite to form a luxurious haven to enjoy the view. The main bathroom, a further ensuite and guest powder room are detailed with premium designer fittings and all enjoy tranquil garden outlooks. A designer kitchen, video security, music entertainment systems, underfloor heating (to tiled areas and the home theatre), a wine cellar and 4 car garaging join a long list of features in this home that will satisfy the tastes of the most discerning buyers.

Situated on 867m2 of easy care grounds, this home is close to Victoria Avenue shopping and in all top school zones (Double Grammar Zone). With easy access to the CBD and city fringe, here is the opportunity to enjoy elegant, refined luxury and the village and bays lifestyle.

Modern Architectural Living at its Best

Stand back and appreciate the architectural brilliance of this stunning contemporary home on one of Remuera’s best streets. Vertical and horizontal lines; engineered louvers; stonewalls and solid masonry are softened by the greenness of established planting. Once inside, the double height atrium and high stud throughout create a modern and spacious home. The unique Poggenpohl designer kitchen features a statutory vein Carrara white marble island as well as a hidden scullery with DCS oven and gas hobs behind a central ‘island wall’. In the family room, a cool American diner will keep the children happily seated for their meals. Step down from the dining room to the living room and relax in front of the gas fire after enjoying a swim in the pool and spa. Entertain friends by the wood-burning fire in the cabana or in the covered outdoor area. An in-ground trampoline ensures fun for the kids and the flat lawn is ideal for a game of family cricket.

A wine cellar integrates into the atrium which features stonewalls and limestone flooring. Complementing the large downstairs bedroom suite are four more upstairs, three of which have ensuites and walk-in wardrobes. The master suite has a particularly large wardrobe and a sliding door separating it from one of the bedrooms, currently used as a nursery. The house is connected with high speed fibre optic internet, has three-car garaging a boat park and ample off street parking. Situated in the double grammar zone and close to top private schools, this home has it all.

Holiday Traditions f rom Around the World!

PolandWigilia, Christmas Eve Supper

Featuring several types of fish, Wigilia begins when the first star appears in the evening sky. Everyone is given a piece of oplatek, a paper-thin wafer embossed with a Nativity scene, and makes a wish. Just in case a stranger visits, a seat is left to welcome him or her to the family table.

BrazilNew Year's Eve on the beach

Join Brazilians dressed in white and gathering by the ocean to celebrate the passing year and to welcome in the next. In Rio de Janeiro, revealers light candles, watch a fireworks display, and throw flowers into the ocean as an offering to Yemanja, the Afro-Brazilian Goddess of the Seas, who represents abundance, safety, and fertility.

Bahamas Jonkonnu Festival, Christmas Season

First celebrated in West Africa in the early 1700’s, the Jonkonnu Festival (or Johnkankus) was brought to the United States and the Caribbean by slaves. In costumes made from bric-a-brac and rags, men and women paraded through town, chanting, singing, and dancing to the beat of drums and other instruments. Today the rite lives on in Jamaica.

Holiday Traditions f rom Around the World! GreeceSaint Basil's Day, New Year's Day

On this day, inspired by Saint Basil—a fourth-century bishop and father of the Greek Orthodox Church, known for his generosity to the poor and the needy—families visit, exchange gifts, and celebrate with a feast. The meal includes Vassilopita (Saint Basil's cake), a bread or cake inside which is baked a foil-wrapped gold or silver coin that the diners then search for. To acknowledge the saint's kindness, the first piece of Vassilopita is set aside for him.

PhilippinesPolka Dots and Coins, New Year's Eve

On New Year's Eve, men and women in the Philippines wear polka dots, keep coins in their pockets, and adorn their tables with round foods, such as grapes. According to Filipino folklore, circles symbolize future good luck and riches.

Sweden St. Lucia's Day (or St. Lucy's Day) on December 13th.

The celebration comes from stories that were told by Monks who first brought Christianity to Sweden. St Lucia was a young Christian girl who was martyred, killed for her faith, in 304AD.T. She would secretly bring food to the persecuted Christians in Rome, who lived in hiding in the catacombs under the city. She would wear candles on her head so she had both her hands free to carry things. St. Lucia's Day is now celebrated by girl dressings in a white dress with a red sash round the waist and a crown of candles on their heads. Small children use electric candles but from about 12 years old, real candles are used!

A beautiful pool and extensive landscaping complete the picture Just as it stands it would be the ultimate holiday home. This truly is the property that you must see, to believe it even exists. The ultra-secure, parklike property is so quiet, Auckland traffic is a distant memory yet it's so handy to the beaches, restaurants and cafes of St Heliers and Mission Bay. It treats a family to a superb lifestyle where everyone can spread out in style. A voluminous oak panelled entry foyer opens to enormous formal dining and entertaining spaces with handsome fireplaces. Further along, the family areas open to sheltered, sundrenched terraces overlooking rose gardens, the heated swimming pool and floodlit tennis court in the valley below. Keeping fit over the holidays!

If you’ve got a young sports enthusiast in the family, play along. Shooting baskets and kicking a soccer ball around the lawn are great ways to get your heart pumping. Thirty minutes of cardio training are recommended, but even five to 10 minutes will elevate your energy and speed your metabolism.

Take the kids for a walk or just go by yourself. If their pace is too slow, add some lunges, jumping jacks, or running in place every few minutes to make yourself work harder.

Do yoga or Pilates while you, or the kids, unwind in front of a movie. While watching TV, do push-ups or sit-ups during commercials. Even one per commercial during a two-hour movie can give you some good exercise.

Dance or do aerobics at home. No one is watching, anyway. If you like, include the little ones and turn it into a game.

Page 41: Macdonald move 3

41

Getting off the bus or subway a stop or two before your destination on a regular basis adds up to a lot of heart-healthy walking.

Practice stretching or light yoga moves while talking on the phone, listening to the news, or while dinner is cooking.

Find the high-energy items on your to-do list and tackle these when you need physical activity. Think about washing the car, digging the garden, mowing the lawn, or reorganizing a closet.

Get up 15 to 30 minutes earlier than the rest of the family and use this time for a run, a walk, or some stretching and yoga.

And maybe a Christmas miracle will happen and you will get to the gym!

Take the kids for a bike ride!

While watching TV, do push-ups or sit-ups during commercials. Even one per commercial during a two-hour movie can give you some good exercise.

In a sedentary job, take your breaks outdoors and have a brisk, short walk. You’ll also improve your concentration and mood.
