OverviewThis document shows how to install MacCaption and activate your license using a product key (serial number).
Installation1. Download the MacCaption installer and open the
disk image.
2. Double click on the installer package to open it.
3. Click Continue.
4. Click Continue again.

5. Read the License Agreement and if you agree, click Continue.
6. If you agree to the license terms, click Agree.
7. Click Install, or optionally change the installation folder.
8. If prompted, supply your Mac user account password, and click Install Software.
9. Click Close to complete installation.
Purchase and Activation1. To run MacCaption, find the
MacCaption icon in your Applications folder, and double click it.
2. The first time the software runs, if you have not already activated on this computer, you will be running in demo mode and many restrictions will apply.
3. Go to the menu Help > Manage MacCaption License…

4. Click the lock icon to authenticate.
5. Enter your Mac user name and password to authenticate.
6. If you already have a serial number, click Enter Serial Number and type in your serial number. If not, click on Purchase License and follow the on-screen instructions to purchase a license online:
7. Click Activate Serial Number.
8. Confirm your serial number, and click Activate.
9. If you have Internet access, the activation process will complete automatically. Skip to the later topic “Finishing Activation” in this document.
Manual (Offiline) Activation:
1. If you don’t have Internet access, an error screen will appear. Click Retry if you are able to connect to the Internet, otherwise click Cancel to proceed with manual offline activation.

2. Follow the instructions, using another computer or device (smart phone, etc.) that has internet access to open the Activation URL in a web browser.
3. On the computer with Internet access, enter the Installation ID from the MacCaption computer, then click Submit.
4. If successful, an Activation Key will be displayed:
5. Enter this Activation Key on the computer with MacCaption, then click Activate.
6. If successful, click Done.
Finishing Activation
1. MacCaption should now say “MacCaption (Version): Activated.” Click OK.

2. Quit and restart MacCaption software. Go to the top menu MacCaption > About MacCaption.
3. Verify that you are running the proper license type (e.g. Desktop, Pro, or Enterprise) that you purchased.
4. Click OK. Now you are ready to use MacCaption!
Purchase License Upgrade
If you need to use features that are in a higher level of the software (e.g. you purchased the Desktop version, but now you need a feature that is in the Pro version), you can purchase an upgrade.
1. Go to the menu Help > Manage MacCaption License…
2. Click the lock icon to authenticate.
3. Enter your Mac user name and password.
4. Click on Upgrade License.
5. You will be taken to the online store which shows the upgrade options available for your license.
6. Follow the on-screen prompts to purchase an upgrade.

Activating a License Upgrade
Usually the upgrade process will complete auto-matically. However in some cases you may receive the upgrade key via email. In that case you must deactivate your old key in order to enter the new key.
1. Go to menu Help > Manage MacCaption Activation.
2. Click the lock icon to authenticate.
3. Enter your Mac user name and password.
4. Click on Deactivate Serial Number. This step requires Internet access.
5. After deactivation, MacCaption will automatically exit. Start the software again. It will start in Demo mode.
6. Go to Help > Manage MacCaption Activation.
7. Click the lock icon to authenticate.

8. Enter your Mac user name and password.
9. Click Activate Serial Number.
10. Enter the new upgrade serial number that was emailed to you.
11. Click Activate.
12. Confirm screen shows “MacCaption (Version): Activated” and shows an upgraded license level.
13. Click OK and quit and restart MacCaption.
Deactivating your License
If you want to move the MacCaption license to another computer, you must first deactivate it on the current computer. This step requires Internet access.
1. Go to menu Help > Manage MacCaption Activation.
2. Go to Help > Manage MacCaption Activation.
3. Click the lock icon to authenticate.

4. Enter your Mac user name and password.
5. Click on Deactivate Serial Number.
6. Confirm that the screen shows “MacCaption (Version): Not Activated”.
You can now activate this serial number on the other computer.
