instructor profile

Lori Tompkins

Lori Tompkins is one of the MAC’s newest instructors. She began teaching a quilting class in October. Lori was born in Marianna, FL and was raised all over as an Air Force Brat. She graduated from Texas Tech University in 1984 with a degree in Interior Design and worked for AAFES, Army and Air Force Exchange Service, as a Visual Merchandiser for about 16 years. Her husband, who was also an Air Force Brat, is currently working for the AAFES. Working with AAFES they have been fortunate enough to live all over the world and Lori says, “It has been very exciting!” They lived in Okinawa before moving to Midlothian in February 2010. She says she started quilting in 2004 because she wanted to “do something for me.” She taught quilting classes while in Okinawa and has taught at some of the local quilting shops since moving to Texas. She says, “I love to get others as excited about quilting as I am. When you make a quilt, it is a part of you! Seeing the quilt come together and the joy on the quilter’s face is priceless.” She has 3 little white dogs, Comet, Sumo and Samurai.
