Soulbee and CGV brought us together at Andys again for the 3rd installment of the lifestyle picnic, which was super exciting as one expected. The event is definitely growing steadily. I was personally impressed by the quality of the sound and talent/DJs. My highlight for the day was Just-T, wow, this lady rocks. Her set really stood out, I am talking from a former DJ point of view here. I don't want to take away from other DJs who played very well, like TJ The Mood Setter, SoulBee, Lefa Stauz and Thabo Phalatse. Bubbles was the only DJ who played on turntables, but was not impressive for an experienced DJ like him. The organizers did their best to make this event a splendor and that was achieved. I was disappointed with the crowd though; majority of them sat the whole time they were there. Couch potatoes should stay at home at not ruin our parties.

PRAYER MEETING BRINGS COMMUNITY TOGETHER

Words and Images: Frans Malatsi

On the 11 April residents of Ward 4 in Akaso were graced by a mass prayer meeting led by Councilor Rebecca Morudu including Pastors and congregants from 27 churches. The aim of the event was to pray for peace and harmony, reduction of crime and drug abuse among youth in the Ward. “This event was long overdue, said one of the community members who attended the event.” “Ward 4 is one of the areas that is affected by house robberies, carjacking, drug and alcohol abuse and other serious crimes, such an event is a welcome initiative to ask for guidance from God and also to involve the community at large to fight crime in our community, said Mr. Zulu a resident in the area.

COMMUNITY PLEA

Early April 2015

We plead with our community that when they leave their houses for more than two days, to live their families or reletives in their houses or inform their neighbours to look after their houses. Neighbourhood watch must be practiced in our communities, so that we can avoid housebreaking. We also advice community members not to neglect their houses, they should either rent them out or sell them. Criminals use neglected houses to commit crimes such as rape, nyaope and drug peddling. Switch off non-essential appliances, Eskom urges

Early April 2015

Eskom has from 6am this morning implemented stage 2 load shedding. The load shedding is likely to continue until 10pm, Eskom said on Wednesday. Due to the constrained and vulnerable electricity supply system, the utility warned that any unexpected changes could lead to a change in the load shedding stage at short notice.Eskom would communicate if there was a need to change stages. “The electricity supply system remains very constrained and vulnerable due to a shortage of generation capacity as several units are currently out of service due to planned and unplanned outages.” Eskom assured customers that load shedding is implemented as a necessary measure to protect the power system. All customers are urged to reduce the load on the electricity grid by urgently switching off geysers, air conditioners, pool pumps and all non-essential appliances throughout the day, which will reduce electricity demand. “We would like to thank all customers who continue to use electricity sparingly. Every little bit of saving counts as it reduces the severity of load shedding.” On Tuesday, Eskom implemented stage 3 load shedding as it continues to battle with power demand. – SAnews.gov.za

CAREERSRecruiters: The good, the bad and the ugly

Government committed to helping small businesses grow

Government is committed to assisting small businesses grow as they are the key to unlocking economic opportunities and achieving inclusive economic growth, says Small Business Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu.“Our policy interventions in South Africa seek to ensure that small enterprises grow into thriving businesses. They cannot remain small forever,” Minister Zulu said. Speaking at the Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC) in Italy, she said the high rate of unemployment, poverty and extreme inequality in South Africa calls for bold and far-sighted interventions. GEC provides opportunities for entrepreneurs to explore business networking opportunities to learn and interact with their peers across the globe. “As government, we

remain open and receptive to new policy ideas that will help accelerate the formation of new businesses and sustainability of existing ones. “We see the GEC as a powerful platform to learn what other successful nations are doing to promote and sustain enterprise development,” said Minister Zulu. She said government will focus on providing financial and non-financial support to small businesses as it wants to reduce obstacles to doing business wherever possible. “There is general recognition that Africa is the next growth pole of the world. It is up to us Africans to seize the moment and ensure that Africa becomes an unprecedented economic success,” Minister Zulu said. South Africa will be the first African country to host the GEC in 2017. The bid was awarded to

Johannesburg as part of the opening ceremony at GEC 2015 in Milan. Minister Zulu invited delegates to present ideas that will ensure that GEC 2017 is a success. – SAnews.gov.za

So you're looking for a new job and you're a bit worried because you're aware that it can lead to a bad experience. You've heard about your friends and about their friends (and their friends) that have been duped by recruiters. The internet is full of scams and get-rich-quick schemes. Stay smart and ensure that it's not only a legit recruiter you're dealing with, but that you're dealing with really good recruiter too.1.Good recruiters want to know what's important to you.A good recruiter puts your interests first. They'll make sure they gather plenty of information about you and what you're looking for in a new job. They will be very specific when deciding whether or not you're suitable for any particular vacancy and will keep searching for a suitable vacancy on your behalf. Bad recruiters however might simply phone you for a few minutes and try to figure out whether or not you could be a potential candidate for one specific job. If they think you aren't, they'll move on to the next phone call never bothering to contact you again. They work for a company and satisfy its needs first, ignoring the fact that you might be perfect for a different position. Con artists will try to sell you the job even if you aren't perfect for the job. They'll try to convince you using a wonderful pitch and lure you into trusting them. They'll try their hardest to win you over by making the process sound easy as

pie, too good to be true and perfect for you.2.Good recruiters know the company and industry well.A good recruiter will make it their business to understand the finer details about the job. They'll know:- why the position is not filled,- what you will be working on- the type of clients you'll be working for,- how many people you'll will be working with,- and which personality traits are best suited for the jobBad recruiters don't do half as much research as they should. They'll be unable to answer questions and be vague about the company and position. This kind of recruiter won't know what's best for you nor the company – not exactly. And you could therefore end up with a bad fit. Be wary of con artists that will tailor their description of the company and position based on your likes and dislikes. They'll smooth talk you into getting excited for the perfect role – don't fall for it.3.Good recruiters know the skills that are needed for the position.A good recruiter will understand the occupations and skill sets needed in the industry they're recruiting for very well. Companies pay a lot of money to get the best and most informed recruiters to find the best suited employees. They'll be very specific with regards to which skills you'll need and use and take your level of experience into consideration too. Bad recruiters

are simply looking at the job spec and comparing it to your CV. They could be wasting your (and the company's) time by requesting an interview only to find out afterwards that your skill set might be similar to but is not matched up exactly for the particular job. That's exactly what once happened to the Head of Careers 24, Marc Privett in London:A recruiter set me up for an interview. After I arrived, they asked me two questions – the second one being “why are you here because you don't have the qualifications, experience or skills needed for this job?” The recruiter got it all wrong. I thanked them, apologised, and got up and left. A con artist will tailor the “needed skillset” to match the description to what you've listed. They even may offer you the job immediately whether or not your skill set matches the position. They'll be agreeable and positive about everything you say. 4.Good recruiters follow up with you.A good recruiter is and acts as the middleman in the entire job hunting process. They will therefore always keep you informed and up-to-date with the process – from pre-interview to post. They will offer you the opportunity to contact them and list the many different channels of getting through to them (and they'll all work). It is also not unheard of for a recruiter to stay in contact with you even after your successful placement, and send you new vacancies you might be interested in.career24.com

Movie: The GunmanCast: Sean Penn, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, Mark Rylance, Jasmine Trinca, Peter Franzen, Javier BardemDirector: Pierre Morel

After a high-profile assassination of the minister of mining in the Congo, former special forces soldier turned mercenary hitman, Jim Terrier, tries to leave his old life behind him and embarks on a career working for a non-profit organisation. His past soon catches up to him, however, as he is attacked while on a philanthropic mission to the Democratic Republic of Congo and he quickly learns that his entire team is now the target of shadowy forces. Directed by Taken's Pierra Morrel, The Gunman effectively tries to do for "serious actor" Sean Penn what Taken did for fellow (once) "serious actor" Liam Neeson: turn him into an action star that can go head to head with the likes of Jason Statham or Dwayne Johnson. Also like Taken, it tries to mix serious world issues – human trafficking in Taken; American corporations' exploitation of third world countries in The Gunman – with nuts and bolts, and often quite brutal, action thrills. It fails. On both counts. While it's true, I have never understood the appeal of Taken, let alone it's sequels, it's at least better than what we have here. Well, in most ways, anyway. Taken still takes the cake for its callously ill-judged melding of the real-life horrors of human trafficking with seriously goofy sub-Die-Hard action silliness, but on every other level, it's unquestionably the superior piece of work. Besides, while the tonal inconsistencies of The Gunman aren't quite as glaring or disastrous as its predecessor's, it still clearly doesn't know what the hell it's trying to be. It spends a fair amount of time dealing with the mess in Congo and the part that US corporations play in such conflicts and these sections of the film are sincerely, if not necessarily compellingly, handled with a serious, even morose tone that's appropriate, if not particularly enjoyable. It's not too long, however, before the "dramatic" and socially aware aspects of The Gunman fade far into the background and an utterly unconvincing mix of convoluted conspiracy thriller and man-against-the-world action flick take over.

She took over the South African music industry with her debut album ‘Due Drop’ and sold over 20 000 copies of the record which included smash hit singles such as ‘Love Is In The Air’, ‘Pump It On’ and ‘Heart’. Now, she is back with a more urban feel as she releases her highly anticipated second studio album ‘Ascension’. This time around, Toya ditched superstar producer Jax Panik and is exploring new avenues and sounds. There is just something upbeat and fun about Toya’s music. The album eases us in to her new sound with a calm, acoustic track ‘In My Head’ and the track, along with the rest of the songs on the album, tells a story beautifully and that’s something no one can take from Toya – her songwriting. Toya has definitely grown since her last album and it’s very clear on this record. Many of the songs are more polished and since she doesn’t have the production of Jax Panik to lift her songs, she needs to do it on her own and I think she succeeded.

The Atlanta rap wild man hits middle age, stays potent.Ludacris has been focused more on acting in blockbuster movies than on making music in recent years. But on his first album since 2010, he's still the same elastically flowing shout-rap dirty bird — gleefully wilding out on Southern party jams like "Get Lit" and "Beast Mode." At 37, Luda also indulges in some dad-rap introspect: "I used to be out partying every damn night/Now sometimes I'd rather be with my kids," he notes on "Grass Is Always Greener." There's a somber R&B R.I.P. for his alcoholic father ("Ocean Skies," featuring Monica), and bonus track "Problems" explores celebrity isolation in ways that make Eminem sound like a greeter at Applebee's. Maybe he should've called this album Crunk on the Tracks.

Hunt sees Europe potential in JordanBidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt believes young midfielder Liam Jordan has the required quality to make the switch to European football. The teenager, who is the son of former Bafana Bafana international Keryn Jordan, was recently promoted to the Clever Boys' first-team squad this term, despite his tender years. And, while he is not expected to make an impact this season, Hunt is expecting the midfielder's 'huge quality' to shine through in the not-too-distant future. "I said it when I saw him a year ago that he is a player that can play in Europe and he should leave," Hunt toldFootball411. "I always look at a player and see if he can play in Europe and that's the first thing I always say and he is a player that can play in Europe. "There's not many of those in South Africa but he's got the attributes." "He he's got all the basics, things that I look for and like. He can strike a ball, he can pass a ball, and the technique is brilliant you know. "He can play in tight areas, small areas which is what you want. The best players in the world can play in small areas. And he can do that and he's got it, he's got huge ability." Hunt even went so far as to suggest that the club would be actively seeking to facilitate a move to Europe for the youngster. He added: "It's certain that he can't stay here, we got to move him." Hunt also compared Liam to his father,

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has written to Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune to admit or deny certain comments attributed to him on Twitter. Khune is alleged to have posted comments directly to the PSL's Twitter account relating to referees after he was sent off in Kaizer Chiefs' PSL win over AmaZulu last week. “@OfficialPSL but I did nothing wrong.u guys need to take action against this poor referees," was the first tweet sent from Khune's official account. “Its unfair how we are painted bad for our actions on de field but we are provoked by these referees, can call me names but I stand 4 what's right.” However, Khune then later took to Instagram to apologise for his outburst. "To the football fraternity, my Family,Friends,Teammates and Fans. No words can validate my careless statements on social media yesterday.
