Room for innovation is what modern care environments require. How do we put the square metres at our disposal

to best use? How do we create a multifunctional, future-proof building which allows fast reactions to new care

requirements, and developments in treatment technology?

Maars offers what the care sector of the 21st century needs: maximum flexibility. Our movable modular walls are

aesthetically pleasing as well as ingenious in their simplicity. They are quick to install and surprisingly easy to take down

creating endless solutions for the ideal interior layout. The result is a care institution that 'thinks along’ with its user

and ‘looks ahead’ to the future a clever building capable of continuously adapting to the latest requirements becomes

a reality with Maars movable modular walls.

Artist Peter Struycken has devised an impressive colour palette of 47 colours for the implementation of the “Healing Environment Concept”

for the Martini Hospital in Groningen Holland.

Acoustical/Fire ratings

Maars modular wall systems comply with the most stringent regulations in the field of sound insulation and fire rating.

Maars pays extra attention to these requirements in its manufacturing processes and uses extra sound insulation in our

glazing and solid panels. We hold all the necessary certificates for both sound insulation and fire ratings.

Hygienic and maintenance friendly

This important aspect concerns not only the users'

comfort and well being, but also the target of keeping

operating costs as low as possible. The use of flush

glazing within the glass installation contributes to a

hygienic and maintenance friendly facility.

It is without doubt a fact that the environment influences the

visitor/user. In relation to a hospital, the question is also whether that

same environment can affect the patients’ recovery. The Martini

Hospital in Groningen is the first hospital in the Netherlands where

this concept has been successfully implemented.

Martini Hospital Groningen turns the clock forward 10 years

It is time to let Dr Jack Thiadens have his say. Thiadens was Chairman

of the Board of the Martini hospital during its construction.

“Obviously we’re not claiming that this concept can cure you, but it

may help patients regain their health and well being more quickly. In

this aspect, it contributes to the healing process, so we can refer to a

healing environment. I think we’re among the first in the Netherlands

with our implementation of such a theory."

Martini Health Design

The Martini Hospital developed a total concept in order to optomise

care in the new building in all aspects. The creation of a healing

environment is one of the mainstays of the Martini Health Design by

creating an environment in which people feel good, thus assisting

their recovery process.

Can colours heal?

One of the most striking means of making patients feel good in the

new hospital is the use of colours. Artist Peter Struycken designed a

fantastic palette of 47 colours, from which interior designer Bart Vos

selected 18 colours which coordinate perfectly.

For more information, please refer to the independent

report Care Building plans Scan 2010

The main characteristics of the healing

environment:

- More daylight; 30% more light than in regular

hospital buildings

- Attention for the perception orientation of the patient

- Use of colour; 18 colours from the Peter Struycken

colour palette, applied by interior architect Bart Vos

- Noise reduction through the application of a double

skinned wall on the side of the patients room where

there is a background noise

- Views from the bed of the surrounding area of the

hospital through floor to ceiling full height windows

- Layout a logical layout of the building, good

signposting and short walking distances between

departments

- Recreational options beautiful gardens, culture and

sports are all part of the hospital environment.

Flexibility is the only solution to future change

The Martini Hospital is an example of innovation, sustainability, and flexibility in all aspects. This is expressed not only

in the policy that was implemented, but also the principle behind construction of the complex. The IFD concept*

applied here was awarded national exemplary status by the Dutch government, according to the Council for

Construction of Care Institutions. The Martini hospital represents a visionary direction for hospitals of the future.

All over the world, the health care sector is choosing Maars, for the new definition of the movable modular wall

system. Designed on the basis of the IFD principle, in other words: Industrial, Flexible construction with Dismantling

options. However, it is not only the technology which makes Maars walls so distinctive, but also the aesthetics,

atmosphere, and style meeting the highest industry standards, thanks to careful choice of materials, unique use of

colours, and the virtually perfect finishing of panels, doors, glass walls and other elements. Maars helps you to create

a flexible care institution, but also an attractive care institution in which the patients' stay is made as pleasant as

possible. This is thanks to a wide range of movable modular wall systems, each offering endless options for variation

and combination. Tailor-made interior technology for tomorrow's care sector. And for all the days after tomorrow!

That is what Maars can offer you!

Endless flexibility

New buildings of today must not only be modern and

future-oriented, but also offer optimum and endless

flexibility. These attributes are even more important

when considering the enormous evolution in health

care caused in part by the increase in life expectancy. In

order to fulfill users’ and visitors’ needs, the infrastruc-

ture of a building must be able to react quickly to new

care programmes, techniques, and treatments.

Sustainable and environment conscious products

Maximum flexibility with sustainable and environmen-

tally conscious products, is what Maars offers for future

oriented buildings within the health care industry. Our

systems are quick to dismantle and rebuild in a new con-

figuration within a short-time frame, at little cost, thus

avoiding all the issues which come with the traditional

stud install.

Maars movable modular walls are used in the following care institutions, among others:
