Anna Nagar (zone 8) has the maximum number of Covid-19 patients iden-tified by screening people at fever camps since May 8. In fact, the number of such cases detected at
Anna Nagar is double that of cases found in hotspot zones in North Chennai such as Royapuram, ac-cording to official data released by Greater Chen-nai Corporation .
From May 8 to July 15, 12,894 Covid-19 cases were detected from fever camps in the city. Of them, 2497 were from Anna Nagar, while 1,386 were from Tondiarpet and 1,270
In fever camps, Zone 8 has the maximum casesfrom Royapuram.
Data shows 45.5% of people who showed Influ-enza like Illness (ILI) symptoms in Anna Nagar zone tested positive for Covid-19, which is the highest of the city’s 15
zones.Greater Chennai Cor-
poration (GCC) decision makers seem to be well aware of the trend since Anna Nagar had the sec-ond highest number of fever camps (1,938), after
Royapuram (1,982).It may be due to the
large number of employ-ees residing in Anna Nagar and many going towards Ambattur and nearby industrial estates for work.
The Public health department of the Chennai Corporation had put up a fever camp near the Mogappair village bus stand on July 17. Surprisingly there were
very few who reported for the check up.

From Saturday (July 18), the Greater Chennai Corporation will send healthcare professionals to residents’ doorsteps to col-lect blood samples for a serosurvey. Besides detect-ing the virus, a serosurvey will also help find out if a person has recovered from the infection without being aware of it.
Corporation Commis-sioner said the serosurvey would be completed in 10 days, covering all parts of the city. “Random samples of blood will be collected from 12,000 residents for the serosurvey,” he said.
In a serosurvey con-
IT firms asked to test samples of staffducted several weeks ago, ICMR had found that 2% of Chennai’s residents had been exposed to SARS-CoV-2. But a serosurvey conducted for Corporation staff on
Thursday showed that 15% to 20% of them were ex-posed to SARS-CoV-2. All the information technology firms and other agencies would be asked to conduct
serosurvey of their staff, ac-cording to the Corporation commissioner. The Corpora-tion has decided to increase the number of tests from 10,000 to 13,000 every day.

Fearing that the power lines would be cut, there were long queues in front of the Tangedco bill collection centres on July 15. This photo was taken in front of the EB office in Mogappair east.
Tangedco had earlier giv-en the consumers in Chennai, Tiruvallur,
Chengalpattu and Kancheep-uram, where the complete lock-down was enforced between June 19 and July 6, time to pay their power bills for the lock-down period till July 15.
On the last day for payment of bills, long queues were seen at Tangedco collection centres in the city despite the availabil-ity of the online payment op-tions.
Despite repeated appeals to the public to make use of the online payment facilities, a sec-
tion of consumers still preferred to make payments at the coun-ters.
Ratnakumar, a consumer at Mogappair complained that he was forced to stand in the queue after his attempt to pay the bill
online failed. “Each time I tried to pay the bill online, it failed. Hence, I had no other option but to stand in the queue to pay,” he sa id, urging the Tangedco to improve the online payment facility.
Deadline extended till July 30
Finally on the last day, the deadline for payment of power bills by the low-tension con-sumers in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet,
and parts of Madurai and Theni was extended to July 30. “Those living in the contain-ment zones can pay bills with-in 15 days from the date of the lifting of the restrictions,” said a release. It also denied the reports of excessive billing for the lockdown period.
Due to the pan-demic the Aadi retail sale in textile show-rooms have gone on-line. Normally this is the best discount pe-riod of the year. It started last Thursday but with a difference. Customers can select items over a video call and have them delivered home or visit stores on the ba-sis of an appoint-ment so that they can avoid crowds. This also helps to strictly fol-low the distancing norms.
One of the leading tex-tile showroom at T Nagar, Pothys is campaigning for online Aadi shopping. Customers can call a toll-free number 1800 315 3131 to book a slot for video consultation with store managers. Items they choose wi l l be brought to their residence. “The last few months have been dull. We are
putting in some promo-tions on aadi sale that would make it interesting to the customers. We are now investing on video consultations and home delivery of clothes. We are giving the annual aadi discounts like any other year. Though it is difficult to expect the usual aadi sale, the initial response has been quite encouraging,” said S. Ramesh, Managing Part-ner, Pothys.
