VERSATILE SERVICES MODULE-XP

The AlcatelLucent Versatile Services ModuleXP (VSMXP) on the industryleading

AlcatelLucent 7750 Service Router (SR) and AlcatelLucent 7450 Ethernet Service Switch (ESS)

platorms enables new service oerings by internally connecting services with centralized

quality o service (QoS) enorcement.

The AlcatelLucent VSMXP provides high

perormance, interservice connectivity

within a single chassis with the advanced

QoS and accounting eatures that have

made the AlcatelLucent 7750 SR and

7450 ESS industryleading platorms.

The VSMXP can be used to internally

interconnect pairs o services, thus creating

new service oerings. For example, by

interconnecting a Layer 2 service and a

Layer 3 service, a routed Layer 2 service

is created. Another example o a new

application is interconnecting the upper

and lower rings or a wholesale serviceprovider with a G.8032 ring topology

network in a single node. By utilizing the

VSMXP, trafc rom each ring direction is

aggregated, allowing each retail customer

to have individual QoS policy applied and

ull accounting detail.

AlcatelLucent VSMXPs are ully supported

by the AlcatelLucent 5620 Service Aware

Manager (SAM), and support inservice

insertion and removal. Each AlcatelLucent

VSMXP occupies hal a slot in an Input/

Output Module (IOM) and can interconnect

up to 25 Gb/s (halduplex) o serviceswhen installed in an IOM3XP and 10 Gb/s

(hal duplex) when installed in an IOM2 or

IOM1. Unidirectional trafc can peak to

the hal duplex capacity through a VSMXP

with onboard logic, ensuring air access

to available bandwidth or bidirectional

trafc patterns. Multiple VSMXP modules

can be installed in a chassis and logically

grouped, increasing the overall inter

connect capacity through load sharing

across VSMXPs in the group.
