Traffic rule violation onRangarajapuram flyover leadsto frequent jamsBy Our Staff Reporter

The Y-shaped Rangarajapuram flyover connects Kodambakkamwith T. Nagar.

The flyover that was constructed to ease traffic congestion has, instead, only worsened the situation due to violation of the 1-way ruleby motorists.

The northern arm of the flyover lands on Station Border Road onKodambakkam side which is already congested due to encroachmentby eateries and other roadside vendors and proximity to Kodambakkamsuburban station. Though only entry from Station Border Road isallowed on this arm of the flyover, vehicle drivers unabashedly violatethe rule, and vehicles coming from Bazullah Road side use this one-waypath instead of going via the southern arm of the flyover to save somedistance.

During peak hours, the traffic almost comes to a standstill whichthen affects the traffic flow on the whole flyover and also on all theconnecting roads of Station Border Road. Further, both the arms of theflyover were designed for 1-way traffic and the lanes are narrow andnot suited for 2-way traffic.

A number of minor accidents have been reported on this stretch dueto the violation of the 1-way rule.

Pre-GST discounts impactAadi salesBy Our Staff Reporter

According to retail outlets inthe shopping hub of T. Nagar,Aadi sales are yet to pick up.

Most shopkeepers had of-fered heavy discounts to clearstocks by the end of June be-fore the rollout of GST fromJuly 1.

Though many shops are of-fering special Aadi discounts, shoppers say the effect of GSThas offset the discount factor.

Vidya (a resident of AryaGowda Road) told MambalamTimes that the price of a salwarsuit offered in a shop after Aadidiscount of 50% and addingGST was higher by Rs. 250

than a similar one she hadpurchased during the stockclearance sale in the same shopin the last week of June.

Many shops have also cuttheir inventory and preferredto sell old stocks in a wait-and-watch approach to see theimpact of GST on their sales. This too has led to depletion ofstocks in many shops includ-ing big showrooms.
