Last Sunday at the Vatican, in front of thousands of people, Pope Francis canonized Mother Teresa, the humble woman who taught us so much about caring for the poorest and the most vulnerable. She is now Saint Teresa of Calcutta and her

life stands as a model of charity, fearless in speaking the truth, and perseverance in the face of suffering and darkness.

What a blessing for our Church, to have a Saint of our lifetime to help us as we strive to hear God’s call for each of us to reach out to the

poor and needy in our lives.

In his homily, the Pope said: “Mother Teresa, in all aspects of her life, was a generous dispenser of divine mercy, making herself available for everyone through her welcome and defense of human life, those unborn and those abandoned and discarded. She was committed to defending life, ceaselessly proclaiming that “the unborn are the weakest, the smallest, the most vulnerable”. She bowed down before those who were spent, left to die on the side of the road, seeing in them their God-given dignity; she made her voice heard before the powers of this world, so that they might recognize their guilt for the crime of poverty they created.”

“Today, I pass on this emblematic figure of womanhood and of consecrated life to the whole world of volunteers: may she be your model of holiness! May this tireless worker of mercy help us to increasingly understand that our only criterion for action is gratuitous love, free from every ideology and all obligations, offered freely to everyone without distinction of language, culture, race or religion.”

“Mother Teresa loved to say, “Perhaps I don’t speak their language, but I can smile”. Let us carry her smile in our hearts and give it to those whom we meet along our journey, especially those who suffer. In this way, we will open up opportunities of joy and hope for our many brothers and sisters who are discouraged and who stand in need of understanding and tenderness.”

May our hearts be moved to the service, conviction, and perseverance that this new Saint reminds us is part of each of our baptismal calls. Saint Teresa of Calcutta, pray for us! In a letter last Easter, Bishop Conlon asked that this Thursday, September 15, the Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows, be dedicated to praying for an outpouring of God’s mercy and love upon each of us and especially on those who were abused in the Church as Children. At Mary Queen of Heaven, prayers for healing and atonement will be added at the 8:30 am Mass and a second Mass will be celebrated at the Marian Gazebo (weather permitting) or the Church at 6:30 pm. If joining us for the evening Mass outside, please bring a lawn chair to sit on as seating is limited.

Please join me in prayer on Thursday at Mass or even at home in praying for God’s mercy and his healing for our Church, for anyone who has committed acts of abuse or violence, and with special petition for the healing of victims of abuse or violence. Deliver us, O Lord, from every evil and grant us peace in our days. Fr. Jason

PARISH COUNCIL NOMINATIONS

The Parish Pastoral Council is accepting nominations for new mem-bers. PPC members work closely with Father Jason, and the ministry leaders, to provide recommendations and guidance on parish mat-ters. As an example, the Feeding the Hunger initiative was developed and driven by the PPC for the purpose of expanding communications, involvement, community and service at Mary Queen of Heaven. Called to service? Prepared to make an impact? Please contact Gregg Olalde, PPC president at [email protected] if you are interested, or would like to nominate a candidate.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM

CHILDREN’S LITURGY TO BEGIN IN OCTOBER

As a mom of a preschooler (and a 3 year old and 1 year old), I am excited to be partnering with Jo Styler to re-establish a chil-dren's liturgy during the 10:30 am Mass on Sundays! Our hope is to have everything up and running by the first Sunday of October. But, in order to make this work, we're looking for a few folks who have a pas-sion for working with our young parishioners to help make the Liturgy of the Word accessible to them. Please reach out to Jo Styler at [email protected] and Kasey Cogan at [email protected] ASAP to express your interest! There is some required paperwork to complete before we start with children, so don't delay!

FELLOWSHIP SUNDAY SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 18 AFTER 10:30 AM MASS

Council of Catholic Women will be hosting Fellowship Sunday on September 18 immediately following the 10:30 am Mass. Everyone is invited to stop in Barrett Hall for coffee, tea, juice, and goodies. It’s the perfect time to relax and enjoy sharing with fellow parishioners and friends. We are looking forward to seeing you!

CATECHETICAL SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 18

Next Sunday, September 18 is Catechetical Sunday! All Baptized Catholics are called to be catechists; to echo God’s word. Parents have an important role in building a strong foundation in the faith in the home; the Domestic Church. Catechists who volunteer in RE are instrumental in passing on the faith to the children in our parish. I am grateful for all that they do to pass on the faith to the little ones, the Confirmation Candidates and those in between. Please pray for our catechist team along with the children and families of our parish.

Catechists, helpers, and hall monitors are still needed in RE on Wednesdays. If you are interested in sharing your faith with young people, please call Jo at the REO.

RE classes begin Wednesday, September 14! A copy of each child’s Baptismal certificate (or Birth certificate if not yet Baptized) is required to be on file in the REO.

If you or a family that you know has a child with special needs and would like to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist, or Confirmation, please call Jo at the REO. Classes will begin on September 18!

On behalf of the CCW of our parish and Mary Queen of Heaven’s parishioners we would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Dayna Pierchzala for serving our parish for the past three years as the Presi-dent of our council. Dayna brought many new programs to our council inviting all the ladies of our parish to share in all the activities throughout the year. Thanks again Dayna for volunteering so many hours to our council and parish. We would also like to welcome Kay Passarelli our new CCW President. Kay has been a parishioner for many, many years and has been involved as a volunteer in many of Mary Queen of Heaven’s events and ministries including CCW, Bereavement and CHRP. Be sure to look for news in the parish bulletin about our first event of the year which will be held on Tuesday, October 18.

And yes, a portion of the proceeds will support

the charitable activities of Fr. McDonald Council #1911 (established 1918).

“Friends of the Family” (general seating) ticket price

Immaculate Conception hosts a PADS site on the third Saturday of each month begin-ning October - April. Hundreds of volun-teers are needed to help purchase and/or prepare food, pick up and deliver food (from the Rectory to the PADS site), serve our guests, be present for the overnight hours, prepare breakfast and lunches and clean up. You do NOT need to help each and every month. This is a great opportunity for families with students needing service hours to serve together. We can’t do this without you! Please contact Marybeth Lawshe at [email protected] if you can help in some way. Please contact Pam at (630) 530-3497 with any questions.
