ALONE TONIGHT

Lullabies & Alibis

ANALYSIS OF SONG LYRICS.

Page 2: Lyric Analysis

Where were you, When I needed you around. You put me to the top, To watch me fall back down. Throughout the hall, Scented with your breath. Put yourself on show, You're dressed to impress.   And you, you start to shake. Because you're moving in closer with this lips. I guess this had a song to break tonight.   This is the first time, I regret having you, By my side, and tonight, This is the last time, I'll be sucked in by your lies, And your , your dirty alibis.   How dare you, think of me like that. I don't know how, How you want me to react. So sing me, a lullaby. And tell me, this will be alright.   And you, you start to shake. Because you're moving closer with this lips. I guess this had a song to break tonight.   This is the first time, I regret having you, By my side, and tonight, This is the last time, I'll be sucked in by your lies, And your , your dirty alibis.   (BREAKDOWN) [ drums mainly, with the sharp guitar and bass]   And tonight, this is the first time , I regret having you, By my side, and tonight, This is the last time, I'll be sucked in by your lies, And your , your dirty alibis.   This is the first time, That I regret having you by my side. And tonight, this is the last time , I'll be sucked in by your lies, And your , your dirty alibis.

THE WHOLE SONG

Page 3: Lyric Analysis

Verse oneWhere were you,

When I needed you around.

You put me to the top,

To watch me fall back down.

Throughout the hall,

Scented with your breath.

Put yourself on show,

You're dressed to impress.

The first takes a while to actually kick in as the song has a really long intro of drums and a basic guitar rift for 40 seconds. This is typical as it eases the audience into the song giving them a catch beat to tap along to.

They have used a repeated pattern with the odd number lines being short and quirky as the even ones are longer adding to the build up of the beats.

But towards the end of this verse it takes you to the pre chorus and we are aware of this because of its dragged out note of the last word “impress”.

Pre- chorus And you, you start to shake.

Because you're moving in closer with this lips.

I guess this had a song to break tonight.

Here we are introduced to a pre-chorus which would repeat a number of times just before the chorus, breakdown of the song to ease the audience in, this is where the beat slightly changes, as we can see the stanza length has gotten much longer but the number of lines are shorter, this is all to do with the beat when the guitars change to a new one to meet the new upbeat rift of the chorus.

ChorusThis is the first time, I regret having you,

By my side, and tonight,

This is the last time, I'll be sucked in by your lies,

And your , your dirty alibis.

Again we see the more varied length in the chorus as it matches what the pre-chorus looked like however we get an extra line.Stereotypical to pop punk music you would find a 4/4 beat which is presented here. The vocals appear to be more higher and loud, along with the crashes of the drums and upbeat of the guitar, performing in rhythm rather than the catch riff which is soon returned right after, ready for the verse again.

Verse two How dare you, think of me like that.

I don't know how,

How you want me to react.

So sing me, a lullaby.

And tell me, this will be alright.

The second verse is usually shorter than the first one as we are already acquired into the beat and know the basic pattern. Here the bass and guitar follows a basic rift which is repeated throughout but only changes when the tempo of the song reaches the pre-chorus right until the actual chorus. This is the last verse in this song as the break down set in, after the second chorus.

Going into the breakdownAnd you, you start to shake.

Because you're moving closer with this lips.

I guess this had a song to break tonight.

This is the first time, I regret having you,

By my side, and tonight,

This is the last time, I'll be sucked in by your lies,

And your , your dirty alibis.

(BREAKDOWN) [ drums mainly, with the sharp guitar and bass]Before we actually reach the breakdown, the pre chorus and the chorus needs to set in however when the chorus is finished it stops and doesn’t go back to the two guitars doing their rifts but goes straight into a breakdown where the drums and chrehindo are heavily involved along side the sharp E strings of the bass, but also the higher guitar chords. No sound is heard here as it is purely instrumental, before a gradual start up back to normality. This is done with a softer voice of the chorus, missing the pre one this time.

Last chorus - endingAnd tonight, this is the first time ,

I regret having you,

By my side, and tonight,

This is the last time, I'll be sucked in by your lies,

And your , your dirty alibis.

This is the first time,

That I regret having you by my side.

And tonight, this is the last time ,

I'll be sucked in by your lies,

And your , your dirty alibis.

You will find this part to be the longest as it gradually ends, the last part to a song normally repeated the chorus over and over again combining bits and using the pre chorus as well. the beat is relatively the same as before however there will be a change in the voice, with pitch wise using more anger and expression in to end off the song well, letting the audience know it is coming to a halt.
