Lyon technology students perform well in state showcase competition
Four Lyon County middle schoolers placed sec-ond in state competition at the Student Technology Leadership competition in Lexington on March 22. Elizabeth O’Bryan, Mariah Matthews, Devin Peek and Tiffani Burban presented a 60-second public service announcement , “Stop Bullying.”
Also Montez Sinclair, Nathan Green, Noah Coomer and Rickey Winn placed in the top 60 of 500 competi-tors with their WiiTouch project.
Thirty-eight Lyon County elementary, middle and high school students competed in the state competi-tion.
“We had two groups who did really well,” said Aaron Dodd, school district technology coordinator.
Dodd said the Matthews, Peek, O’Bryan and Burban wrote the script, directed and acted in the public ser-
vice announcement. “The only thing I helped them with was the edit-
ing,” Dodd said. The second group continued a project they had
worked on the project for three years. “They took a WiiMote, a controller for a nintendo video game, and they made an interactive smart board for under $100,” Dodd said. “In comparison, smart boards cost about $1,000.”
