WHAT IS THE TIME-FRAME FOR THE PROJECT?

This is a 10 years project split as follows;(2003 September to 2013 )

- 3 years was for problem identification, analysis and findingpossible solutions.

- 5 years - establishing businesses and legalising them(including Demos).

- 2 years - passing on the gift.

The Rural Communities.

The key target is the Household.

This way the men, women and theyouth are involved. The investment

Women are fully involved and economicallyempowered.

The Standards of life for the 17 families have

improved from earning average of $2 to $6per day.

The involved families are able to take theirchildren to school especially the girl child asshe has always been the one to drop outwhen money was not enough.

This is very sustainable as:

- The families own the businesses.

- The families did not get handout to start thebusinesses.

- The project does not use special funding sotrainings will continue for the community

- The idea is being transferred to all DVLD staff inthe District.

- The farmers will be sharing experiences andtaking the knowledge to others passing on thegift.

LESSONS LEARNED

The following lessons have been learnt;

- A Demo is an efficient tool of Extension

- HH approach is the best way to develop the

communities.- Gender based violence can be reduced

with increased communication.
