Although it is one of the riches cities in Germany,
Wiesbaden still faces a number of challenges
Only 20% of children in Wiesbaden have access to
nursery schools. Kindergarten capacities are
insufficient and lack over 1,000 spots.
10,000 children are dependent on welfare.*
The unemployment rate of the city is 1.5% above the
Hesse average.
Social problems are concentrated in a few city
districts with rising crime and unemployment rates.
31.9% of the population has a migrant background.
Only one in ten qualify for higher education and
migrant unemployment is higher than in any other

BerufsWege für Frauen is an organization that focuses on
improving the career prospects and life conditions of women
and their families.
The organization was founded in 1988 by a group of proactive
and engaged women. It plays a central function in offering
career advice and life coaching.
The aim of “BerufsWege für Frauen” is to support women in
finding employment and earning their income, which
contributes to a sense of independence and self-determination.
BWfF’s large spectrum of activities are designed to cover the
specific needs – both personal and professional - of the
individual women. Currently the organization has approximately
50 women as members. Through their membership they
support the organization with ideas, concrete project activities
and financial assistance.
The organization is currently financed through public funding.

Wiesbaden StiftungBasic Information
The Wiesbaden Foundation was founded in December 2002 and offers
individuals, associations, institutions and companies the possibility to actively
engage in social initiatives in the city of Wiesbaden. The community of
citizens is the beating heart of the city and significantly influences the social
and economic development of Wiesbaden. The foundation is supporting
projects in a variety of areas ranging from history, knowledge and research,
to education, sports and culture.
As a community foundation the Wiesbaden Foundation is financially and
politically independent and has the possibility to support a variety of social
projects, which improve the life in Wiesbaden. It has been awarded several
prizes such as the Herbert-Quandt-Prize for “Alliances for Public Spirit”.
The Wiesbaden Foundation is supporting the Social Business City as an
incubator for social business projects, an enabler for networking activities
and knowledge advisor for community building.

Wiesbaden StiftungLeonardo School Award
The Leonardo School Award was initiated by the Wiesbaden Stiftung in 2005 and
since then has been taking place every two years.
The aim of the Leonardo School Award is to engage students in working in teams with
the goal of developing project ideas in a variety of categories. The project gives
students to possibility to showcase their ideas and win prizes. Students from schools in
Wiesbaden from grades 7 to 13 have the possibility to participate in the contest. School
teams can submit projects in the following categories:
• Ideas for Wiesbaden
• Social Cause
• Economy
• Theater
• Musik
• Media
• Art & Design
• Technology
In 2010, the Leonardo team went „on tour“ around 33 schools in Wiesbaden to promote
the initiative and motivate students to participate in the competition.
Prizes are awarded during an official ceremony in Wiesbaden. The initiative is
supported by a large number of both public and private sponsors.

Lalaland is a unique social business for children’s clothes, furniture, toys
and accessories. As a social business for women and young families it
provides a cozy environment for mothers and fathers. It allows them to
network, exchange experiences and earn an additional income through
activities such as courses and events, and selling handmade accessories,
toys and clothes.
Examples of events and courses offered at Lalaland:
• Wellness day for pregnant women
• BodyART for mothers
• Photo day for pregnant women
• Yoga for pregnant women
The entire store is aimed at empowerment of women and strengthening
ties to the local community. It reaches out to the families in Wiesbaden,
enables global social impact through selling clothes made by Grameen
Knitwear and offers products online for increasing its customer base. The
business has been in existence for one year and is owned and managed
by Vanessa Spindler.

perfect day is a coffee and fresh product specialist for
sensible nutrition. Perfect day maintains high standards of
its products in terms of ingredients, preparation and
presentation.
The signature coffee sold at perfect day is the Organic Kerala
Shakti - a premium quality coffee from the highland forests of
southern India. The beans of this particular variety come from
perfect day’s forest farm Poomalai. Perfect day farmer
Reinhold Treitinger cultivates the farm in a bio-organic way.
Perfect day enables social impact in India through a unique
value chain that is based on direct cooperation between the
farmer in India and the store-front in Wiesbaden. Both parties
select their service providers to make their coffee available in
Wiesbaden. This allows for a maximization of impact in India,
an increase in benefits for the local farmer and an additional
investment in the rain forest in India.

Basic Facts:
•The European Business School was founded in 1971 and is now
one of the leading business schools in Germany.
•Since summer 2010 the university expanded and became EBS -
a University for Business and Law. EBS Law School is the
second private law school in Germany.
•The EBS Business School is among the top 15 in German
business studies research rankings. It has 1,200 students, with
approximately 220 new students per year in the Bachelor’s and
110 in the Master’s programmes.
•The EBS Law School was founded in June 2010. Partners of
EBS Law School are representatives from (international) law
firms, the Federal Court of Justice, the German Federal Bar and
the German Association of Judges

The EBS University plays an important role as a partner of
The Grameen Creative Lab in developing the first Social
Business City in Wiesbaden. In this role, the EBS engages in:
• providing the academic framework needed to foster
social business both in Wiesbaden and beyond
• providing a platform (through Social Business Labs
and other events) where academics and practitioners
can enter a dialogue about social business
• acting as an incubator for social business by
supporting students who want to start their own SB
initiatives
• developing curricula, which incorporates the topic of
