Family Fun with Horses at Suncoast Stables Suncoast Stables, at 1108 Alta-

mont Lane in Odessa has a fun, fam-ily-friendly event planned forSaturday, February 20th. OwnerKrystle Lee invites the community tocome out and meet the horses. Thefun begins at 5 p.m. with a barn tour, but that is just the beginning of anevening of fun and horsing around! There will also be a horseback ridingdemonstration, a grooming stationdemonstration and a chance to win a4-pack of free riding lessons. Andwhat better way to wrap up an eveningof horseplay than a free, kid-friendlyhorse movie watched on a blanketunder the stars?

This event is free but bring somecash because there will be food anddrinks for purchase, as well as facepainting for the kids. Nick Stoll, owner of 3 Brother’s Pizza (at VanDyke and Gunn in Odessa) is provid-ing pizza at cost, and proceeds willbenefit Suncoast Stables’ Youth Cluband Saving Grace for Equines, a501(c) 3 non-profit organizationfocused on the rescue of AmericanSaddlebred horses. Krystle grew uparound horses and enjoyed competing

as a juvenile and amateur in the Amer-ican Saddlebred arena, so the rescue ofthis breed is one she is happy to helpsupport.

Saving Grace for EquinesJoy Rodak has shown American

saddlebred horses for 20 years, and hasheaded up Saving Grace for Equinesin Ocala, Florida since October 2013,when she bought six American saddle-bred horses to save them from a meatbroker. While it is illegal to slaughterhorses for meat in the United States, they are still shipped to Canada andMexico and processed for human con-sumption. Saving Grace for Equineshas rescued numerous horses experi-encing inhumane treatment and con-ditions, including starvation, abuse, unsafe habitats, and some of those arebound for slaughter for human con-sumption. “These are very nice horsesthat can still serve a purpose,” says Joy.“It’s not a lot, but we are doing ourpart along with the other saddlebredrescues in the country.”

Many times the original selleroften has no idea what can befall theirhorse and Joys says most of the own-

ers are unknowing participants. Rescued horses usually have

some physical issues and are oftenmalnourished. Saving Grace forEquines works on their nutrition forthree or four months before they areready for adoption. Saving Grace forEquines relies on donations andsponsorships to operate.

If you are looking for a full serviceaccounting and tax preparation firmthat gets excited about saving you taxdollars, you will find more than enthu-siasm at Hernandez Accounting Solu-tions in Land O’ Lakes. You will finda knowledgeable, experienced andprofessional team that is eager to helpyou lower your tax liability. If you thinkthere is no joy in accounting, wait untilyou meet President of HernandezAccounting Solutions, Marcus Hernan-dez. Not only is he easy to talk to,Marcus Hernandez absolutely loves theopportunity to help clients save moneyon their taxes! A long-time ally forsmall and medium sized businessesand individual taxpayers, HernandezAccounting Solutions wants to take theopportunity to share some importantlast-minute changes that could helplower the tax liability for many busi-nesses and individuals.

Marcus Hernandez explained thatCongress took action late December2015 and passed a tax extender bill

formally known as the ProtectingAmericans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015(PATH), which reauthorizes ten taxbreaks for the 2015 tax year. Some ofthe tax provisions were made perma-nent, while others are extended through2016 or 2019. These tax breaks weretaken away in January 2015, and assoon as it happened, Marcus startedlooking for solutions. “When I firstlearn that a tax break is gone, I amlooking to replace it. I have a passionfor looking for new ways to reduce taxliability. Constantly searching andparticipating in webinars and seminars,Marcus has creative ideas to help smallbusinesses. He says, “I want to mini-mize their taxes and help them, notjust save money, but keep that moneyfor growth. I want to help them createwealth and grow their business.”

Marcus explained the PATHchanges and how some are going tobenefit. For instance, PATH extends atax provision through 2016 that allowshomeowners whose homes have beenforeclosed on or subjected to short saleto exclude up to $2 million of canceled

mortgage debt. “A lot of individualswere sweating on this one, because ithad them possibly paying income taxon money they don’t have.”

PATH made some changes perma-nent. For instance, primary and second-ary school teachers buying schoolsupplies out-of-pocket may be able totake an above-the-line deduction of upto $250 for unreimbursed expenses, meaning the deduction can be takenbefore calculating adjusted gross in-come. Also made permanent by PATHis the deduction for state and local salestaxes (as long as you itemize). Anothertax provision made permanent: Taxpay-ers aged 70-1/2 or older can donate upto $100,000 in distributions from theirIRA to charity if they choose not to takethe mandatory minimum distribution asincome; this is an important strategythat can be used to lower incomeenough to take advantage of other taxprovisions with phase-out limits.

A tax provision for energy efficientimprovements, including appliances, reduces your taxes as opposed to adeduction that reduces your taxable

income and is 10 percent of the cost ofmaterials for items like insulation, newwater heaters or other energy efficientproducts.

Another above-the-line tax deduc-tion that PATH extends through 2016is the deduction of qualified tuition andfees. This expense can be taken even ifyou don’t itemize your deductions andincludes expenses such as student activ-ity fees and expenses for books, suppliesand equipment as required by the insti-tution.

There are more tax break reautho-rizations related to PATH and MarcusHernandez and his team would love tohelp you find out if any tax breaks will

Aileen Carlson, Executive Direc-tor of The Watermark at Trinity, has15 years of experience working atanother Watermark Retirement

Community, and says, “I’m excitedabout the opportunity to be the per-son who gets to spearhead the activi-ties, the programming, the dining, and to help create the feel and thevibe of the community.”

about apartments that have plenty ofnatural light, architectural and designelements that redefine what assistedliving looks like, and upgrades to im-press.

The grounds are going to beimmaculately kept, with lobbies, sitting areas and dining areas that giveoff the impression of living in a resort. It will feel that way too, as residentsdon’t need to worry about cleaning, maintenance, grounds keeping or se-curity. The staff also takes care of thehousekeeping, laundry, linens andmore. All utilities are included as well, except for phone, Internet and cable, which can be added easily and afford-ably. The staff at The Watermark atTrinity takes care of it all; with thegoal of letting the residents simplyenjoy their retirement!

Have I mentioned the food yet?Because the food at The Watermarkat Trinity is bound to draw people inall by itself. While other assisted living centersaround the globe create a rigid sched-ule to follow, Watermark has a totallydifferent approach to assisted living. For example, in many places breakfastis served at a specific time and that’s it.Watermark believes that the commu-nity should adhere to your personalschedule and not the other wayaround. That means, if you like to

enjoy your breakfast at 9:45 insteadof 7:30 or vice versa, that can easilybe arranged. It’s the simple things, sometimes, that make you feel athome. The Watermark at Trinity staffwants to do more than make you feelat home, they want you to relax andlet them do the work. Don’t youdeserve it?

Offering regularly scheduledtransportation, residents have accessto places all over town, and TheWatermark at Trinity staff is excitedabout all of the fantastic events thatthey are going to be putting on thecalendar each month.

Residents will have access to allkinds of exciting activities and classes. In fact, another unique program thatWatermark has created is their Water-mark University. Watermark Univer-sity offers classes in just aboutanything you can imagine, from jew-elry making to ballroom dancing, andfrom computer classes to classes whereyou can learn how to speak anotherlanguage like Spanish or even signlanguage! The best part about Water-mark University is that they under-stand that their residents have a wealthof knowledge to share, and manyresidents enjoy teaching classes aboutsubjects that they know a lot about!

Jennifer Naster is the SalesDirector who helps people find theirnew home at The Watermark atTrinity. With many years of experienceworking for Watermark, Jennifer said,“One of our residents at another com-munity taught a Watermark Universityclass on seashells. She was an experton shells and taught everyone abouthow shells are used in everything fromdécor to medicine. It was really inter-esting.” She added, “People love theopportunity to share what theyknow!”

Redefining Memory CareFor the many people who suffer

from memory loss, dementia orAlzheimer’s disease,it’s truly importantto provide a home-like environmentthat helps them feelhappy, safe, secureand well providedfor. The Watermarkat Trinity has an en-tire floor dedicatedto Memory Care, and programs thathelp each residentlive happy, fulfilledlives.

Have you everheard of Nayas? Theword, “Naya” is an ancient Sanskritword that means guide or person ofwisdom, and The Watermark at Trinitywill have many qualified Nayas onhand to act as guides for the MemoryCare residents, guiding them throughpraise and approval. Watermark Re-tirement Communities partner withthe National Council of DementiaPractitioners to train their Nayas.People with dementia are often con-fused, and Watermark has experts onhand to make sure that you or yourloved one is well taken care of at alltimes, focusing on what each residentcan do, instead of what has becomedifficult to do.

Just like with residents in AssistedLiving, the food provided to residentsin Memory Care is outstanding, nutri-tious and expertly prepared. Water-mark has even come up with acompletely unique way to providenutritious meals to people who havea difficult time eating independentlybecause of cognitive or neuromuscularchallenges. This is their Thrive DiningProgram. In fact, they’ve revolution-ized the way people with cognitive orphysical disabilities eat by creating theirown version of “Grind Dining™”,which basically takes a healthy, nutri-tious meal, ground into handheld oneor two-bite appetizer portions. It’ssimple, it’s easy and it’s a fantastic solu-tion to helping those who would havea much harder time eating nutritiouslyotherwise. This program gives confi-

dence to those individuals who needit most, and is unique to Watermark.

Residents of Memory Care areactive! That calendar is packed withfun activities that include many oppor-tunities that are tailor-made for eachperson to receive some type of physicalexercise. Watermark uses music, artand dance to help people tap into theircreative energy. Art is a wonderful wayfor people to communicate as well.

Offering unique programs andamenities for the residents in MemoryCare, such as a Personal PantryProgram, which allows families tosupply their favorite snacks and foods,to providing outings that are typicallyunheard of in memory care environ-ments, The Watermark at Trinitypromises to help each resident makethe very most of every day.

If you or someone you love isinterested in moving to a place thattakes away the hassles and the chores, while providing a beautiful, safe, andexciting community to be part of,choose The Watermark at Trinityto call home.

Wow! 25 Years Strong! “I can’t believe 25 years have

gone by,” says Donna. “This took alot of dedication…tremendous dedica-tion.” She adds, “I’ve seen a lot ofcleaning services come and go, but weare here for the long term. Now weare bigger and better than ever.Twenty-five years later, we have 25employees and are the number onecleaning service in Tampa Bay. I amso excited I still have a lot of the samecustomers for over 20 years!”

One long time client called tocongratulate Donna and said, “Youand your business are not gettingolder, you’re only getting better.”

All these years later, Donna is stillemotional as she tells the story of howshe came to rename her business.Donna was crowned “the cleaningangel” 18 years ago by an elderly lady, who was under care at Gulfside Re-gional Hospice. Shortly before the ladypassed away, Donna left a crystal angelfor her. She told her nurse that Donnashould be called the cleaning angel. Asher business grew from just herself towhat is now a fleet of “cleaning angels,”

the name of Donna’s company haschanged to reflect the growth. She says,“It started off as Donna’s CleaningService, then The Cleaning Angel, andnow to Donna’s Cleaning Angels. Wow,we have come such a long way!”

Donna Ferrante is a woman sodedicated to her clients, her employees, and her company that she never stopstrying to improve. Even though thestellar residential cleaning services pro-vided by Donna’s Cleaning Angels iswhat has built the company, Donnacontinues to bring more to the tablefor her customers, such as expandedservices including carpet, tile and groutcleaning.

“In 25 years, there has been a lot ofgrowth. We are extremely well known, and receive a tremendous amount ofreferrals. In order to give the customeran accurate time and pricing on theirhome we offer a free estimate.” WhenDonna meets a potential new client forthe estimate, she explains the detailedcleaning that her service provides.“Every house is different,” says Donna.Maria adds, “Customers love how muchtime Donna takes to meet, greet and ex-plain everything we have to offer themin person. We are branching out moreinto commercial cleaning. Such as, doc-tors’ and real estate offices, insurancesagencies and other small businesses.”

Always a hard worker, a strong

work ethic runs in her blood from herItalian and French Canadian back-ground, as her family in Gorham, NewHampshire has owned an Italian restau-rant in the mountains for almost 70years now. Carrying on a family legacyof work and success has always beenimportant to Donna and when she firststarted her business, her son, then 11,and her 8-year-old daughter followedher example and helped their mom byputting fliers on cars at Sunday services.

In addition to her family’s influ-ence, Donna attributes the success ofher company to a determined attitude, tremendous amount of ambition, and

meticulous attention to detail, all ofwhich is accompanied with an unstop-pable drive. An example of this drivewas when, after years of working on herown, Donna broke her ankle and handin an accident and knew she couldn’tcontinue cleaning on her own. Sheprayed for the future of her business andthat is when she decided to hire her firstemployee.

Reflecting on her company’sgrowth, 25 years of hard work andsuccess and the addition of a fleet ofDonna’s Cleaning Angels vehicles,Donna shares, “The dedication andsuccess in my cleaning business is due to

the closeness of my wonderful family. Iam proud and honored to say that I amfollowing in the footsteps of my parentsand grandparents. We know how tocook, clean and we give 100 percent tothe business. My only regret is that mymother, father and grandmother aren’there alive to see all of this, but I knowin my heart that they are seeing it eventhough they can’t be here with me.”

Licensed – Bonded – Insured –Workman’s Comp on AllEmployees

What sets Donna’s CleaningAngels apart is the fact that Donna hascreated a company that is fully licensed, bonded and insured, and each clientcan expect to have a team of Donna’sCleaning Angels at their door each timethat they have service.

Donna says, “Next to your doctor, there’s nothing more personal than yourcleaning service, which is why we takeso many steps to protect you and makeyou feel at ease with our service. Myclients don’t have to worry becauseI’ve done the homework and I carrythe liability.”

Donna adds that building honestdependable relationships is just as impor-tant as providing quality cleaning. “I re-ally appreciate my hardworking girls. And they appreciate their job here atDonna’s Cleaning Angels and take care

of our customers with much pride. Thatmakes this a win-win situation. Usingthe basic principles of mutual respectcombined with good old-fashionedelbow grease, the angels produce a heav-enly sparkle. Our customers love ourback-to-basics, old-fashioned cleaningtechniques, often reminding them ofhow their grandmothers used to clean.

“The girls are happy when theywork together, they have good energytogether, plus four eyes are better thantwo. This way here, the teammates areable to check each other and make surethat nothing is missed.”

The teams are always presentableand friendly, wear uniforms with non-slip shoes, and come in with a largecanvas kit containing all of their highquality cleaning supplies. What’s more, every employee that Donna hires isbackground checked, drug free andcovered by workman’s compensation. This is part of the reason why Donna’sCleaning Angels is the first choice of somany people in our area.

“It’s important to me to hirepeople who have a clean background, and who are polite, trustworthy anddependable,” says Donna. “As a result,I can be very picky about who I hire.”She adds, “Some employees have comehere that previously worked for othercleaning services, and they are amazedat the way our training procedures are.

They stated that their previous employ-ers made them watch a video and thensent them off the very next day to clean, unsupervised. Our Angels have on-the-job training for over a month, with afield manager, before they are consid-ered a ‘true cleaning angel.’ It takestime and effort to make sure an em-ployee is 100 percent up to our cleaningstandards. Detailed cleaning is what weare known for. Not just a run-through,wipe-down.”

To ensure that every client is happyafter each cleaning, Donna offers com-ment cards, regularly checks in with herclients, and has regular meetings withher staff.

Reflecting, Donna says, “At theend of the day I thank God for myblessings – the great people who workfor me, a great business, my health, myhome, my loved ones and my family.God bless you all.”
