May 9, 2002 Sports Luther College Chips Year of sports in retrospect DURING a year that Luther is graduating some its fínest athletes, Luther saw records fali and national recognition come forth. The men's soccer team worked its way to the Elite Eight in nationals and women's soccer went undefeated in the IIAC. The football team made HUGE strides in becoming a football power. Amanda Smith ('02) broke records like it was going out of style and the women's basketball team won the Iowa Conference regular season title. The wrestling team sent four individuais to Nationals, coming home with Garret Kurth's second place finish. The men's tennis team went on a string of victories they have not seen in Iong time.
