This booklet is intended to provide an overview of materials that exhibit luminescent qualities. Whether the providing light

comes directly from electrical outlets, lamps, the sun, or even if they exhibbit light only when the lights are turned off,

these materials provide an interesting insight into how light can be incorporated into various designs, materials, and

lifestyles.

DIGITAL

Sensacell

Sensacell is a digital surface that recreates the look and feel of architecture with dynamic and interactive experiences. The surface’s proximity sensors detects people, objects, and movement up to 2 inches away from the surface, creating a 3D multitouch sensing zone. The full colour LED lighting array creates stunning interactive graphics, video, and ambient illumination. The whole display is comprised of 6inch square modules that can be embedded into surfaces of any size or shape, allowing total flexibility. Sensacell arrays can be interfaced with other systems to control sound, light, video, HVAC, and alarm systems via RS232, MIDI, DMX, and TCP-IP.

Mnem

osys

Referring to the Greek goddess of Personification of Memory, Mnemo-syne is a modular, interactive LED system for expansive architectural “Dobpler” surfaces. This material responds to the movements of users in real-time, mapping their silhouettes as light shadows dancing across the surfaces. This system is suitable for both interior and exterior use in high-traffic areas, for the purpose of improving personal safety and comfort. With this system, we are also able to create surfaces of architecture with a recording memory of surroundings to play over. Mnemosyne installations are robust and resilient systems for interactive light, in full conduct of building regulations when it comes to material usage and fire issues. It also has a very strong protection against corrosion and moisture, easing the construction demands for encas-ings when installed outdoors. The system is made up of cards sized 180 x180 mm, to be used in constructions based on sizes dividable on 20 cm as larger modules made of lightweight laminate material. The encasing may be created using tempered glass, acryls, polycarbonate or Corian with rich possibilities to combine light with pattern engrav-ings.

LiTraCon

Litracon is a light-transmitting concrete, combining optical fibers and fine concrete. This material may be produced in panel form as well as pre-fabricated building blocks. Part structural concrete, part light-transmitting surface, this material does not take form of concrete and light, but a new material which is homogeneous in its inner structure as well as its main surface. This new identity calls to question pre-conventions of both materials. Each product is as unique in pattern as the one before it.

Light Tape

Light Tape alters ones preconceptions about point based light sources. Unlike LEDs or other forms of lighting that use single point lights spaced over an area, Light Tape lights uniformly over the entire surface. This is a light bulb as thin as a credit card in any colour that can be bent around any surface for an undefined number of feet, costing only a fraction of what digital light bulbs cost to operate. Light Tape made of non-breakable materials and then it's dressed with one of the best moisture barriers out there. Plus there's no glass to break, or gases to escape. With an average lifetime of 40,000 hours, Light Tape® is an industry leader.

Glow

in the Dark Film

Glow in the Dark Film is a flexible, three-layered film made of PVC resins and Glow in the Dark Powder. This film can be charged by any source of light, including a standard lamp, and glows for 10 hours following. With a yellowish-white colour during the day, this luminescent material glows a bright green in the dark. After the lights are turned off, a 10 m² piece of film is notice-able from a distance of 100 m. With a thickness of only 0.23 mm, this material’s ability to rapidly accumulate light and then emit a glow-in-the-dark luminescence makes it suitable for uses such as emergency markers, evacuation routes and self-luminous systems. With its silky and matte surface, Glow in the Dark Film the film is also suitable for large format digital printing with an ordinary printer.

FABRIC

Give B

ack Curtain

The give back curtain is a part of a series of techno-fabric designs that rethink portable fabric screens. This fabric gives a very pliable fabric matrix the capacity to illuminate, define space, and provide for a portable form of privacy without the need for partitions. The curtain recycles light through a process that integrates photoluminescent pigments (i.e sunlight or fluorescent light) which is absorbed through the fabric, retained, and then released as a visible light emiting within another part of the color spectrum.

Delight C

loth

The Delight Cloth is a light-emitting textile comprised of thousands of fiber optic strands – each strand a diameter of only .25 to .5 mm. These optical fibers are woven into a large translucent tapestry, lit up by a 100W or 150W halo-gen, depending on the effect you would like to achieve. It is even possible to add a colour controllers to produce a variety of colours to complete your desired look.

Starpath

The aggregate material absorbs and stores energy from UV rays during the day. Come night time, the material releases the stored energy, allowing for it to glow. This product is cost effective to install and maintain while its seamless surface may be applied to any existing surface (i.e.:con-crete, tarmac, timber or any hard stand substrate). To resurface, the existing product need not be removed. As a safety material, the non-reflective substance can be imple-mented in parks and walkways, encouraging residents to safely use them as night.

Tech

AGT is a proprietary of non-shrinking, extremely hard poly-ester resign and photoluminescent pigment. Formulated for use in decorative architectural materials, AGT has the opportunity to enhance safety in low light level conditions for over 12 hours after exposer of only 10 minutes. AGT’s daylight color is off-white, and afterglow colours are avail-able in yellow-green, aqua, and sky blue. Offered in sand, stone, river rocks, and wayfinding illuminations discs and domes.
