La Salle PeakBryan, T.X.Fall 2014Professor: Zhipeng LuPartner: Jennifer Romero

Project Description:La Salle Peak is an intermediate structure between La Salle Hotel and Papa Perez Mexican Cuisine. It’s purpose is to serve as a elevated walking area over the circle driveas well as an elevated stage for Downtown Bryan’s monthly event; First Friday. Finding a space to renovate to enhance circulation and attraction was the main objective of the project. In the existing condition of the space between the hotel and restaurant stands a fountain serving as a center piece. This was a problem as it served as an obstructionto the crowds attempting to listen to the band playing in a corner. The solution to the problem was to build around and over the fountain to allow access to the restaurant to promoteextra seating opportunties and movement thorugh the area. The project only shows to the structural components of the walkway. It was also to be put together as a part to whole representation using the same single 3 dimenseional wooden unit to form the elevated structure.

Project Description:The T4T Lab at Texas A&M teamed up with the work of Gilles Retsin to research architecture complying with Object Oriented Ontology. Influenced by the book The Democracy of Objects by Levi Bryant, the mixed class of seniors and sophmores grouped up to create an object oriented structure. Each object is to be seen as uniqueto itself and its surrounding. The building does not comply to the needs of the human subject and in many instances accumilates information for its own purposes as it reachesout to the immenent surrounding. In designing the object, agents are pushed to follow paths, wrapping the overall form. An anamoly is originated from the top of the structure burrowing onto the object at certain shifts. The tile and extruding gold strikes act as a relation to the direct environment. The best place for inhabital use would be within theobject as shown in the sections.

Alaskan Minimal HomeFairbanks, A.K.Fall 2015Professor: Livia Loureiro

Project Description:The assignment was to choose any place in the world to build a home and to do research on the location. The place chosen is an actual lot on the outskirts of Fairbanks alongside a major highway. The home was restricted to thirty square meters and was influenced by the Minimod House my MAPA Architects. The design started with a steel cage that will befilled with different materialed panels in the order that the home owner chooses. There is a central fireplace necessary due to how extremely low the temperature can reach in the winter time. An organic stemmed system grows on the home representing the harsh and overwhelming environment taking over the manufactured structure as well as serving as a blending factor to the immediate surrounding of the home. The material is to be wood, steel, and glass.

Joao Pessoa Minimal HousingJoao Pessoa, BrazilFall 2015Professor: Livia Loureiro

Project Description:Two separate families were to be able to fit within a seventy square meter area for this house. The house also needed to cooperate with theneighboring house that is also inhabiting two families. The lot given is a one-hundred and forty square meter piece of land (7m X 20m). Thecomplex of houses included other identical lots, a soccer field, a main parking area, and a walking path. Entering the complex, the house is the first one to come into view. Keeping the two family living spaces united into one structure was chosen to represent the unity of the complex as a whole. The exterior of the building was formed to act as a barrier from any outside threats that Brazilians face while still leaving the surrounding environment visible looking from the inside- out. A transitioning staircase is used as the main separation of the house as it lurespeople mysteriously up to the second house. Protection was the major theme for this house. The material used for the structure is concrete, steel, and glass.
