In the 1st Century, Las Médulas (As Médulas or As Meduas in Galician language)is a historical site near the town of Ponferrada in the region of El Bierzo (province of León, Castil and León, Spain), which used to be the most important Gold Mine in the Roman Empire, becoming also very popular the wines ( Pliny the Elder in 77 AD describe them in his books).

So, the wines from León were famous more than 2000 years ago. Also became popular because La Ruta de la Plata (Silver Route) y El Camino de Santiago were crossing the León Area.

In the 10th century the two economic sources on which rested the territories of the production area were the mills for processing cereals and vineyards. There were many monasteries that made possible the revival of viticulture in the area through the acquisition of land devoted to the cultivation of vines. In the Middle Ages the vine acquires the category of traditional culture in the region.

harvest made a big difference. At Valenciso they started on October 14 and the wine is quite tight at the moment, with subtle and elegant notes of red and black fruit, cedar wood, nutmeg and vanilla. The

characteristic that strikes me as more important here is the balance, something that Valenciso seems to be quite good at, producing classically proportioned wines with the right amount of extraction, acidity and wood. It should age very well. This wine represents the bulk of the 100,000 bottles produced by the winery. Drink 2014-

The Cellar, Marqués de Vargas, from Rioja Alta, is exceptional.

It was in 1840 when Felipe de Mata, the eighth Marqués de Vargas, planted the first vines in the outskirts of Logroño.

Especially memorable was Hilario de la Mata, the father of the current Marqués de Vargas, who for years presided over one of the most emblematic wineries in Rioja.

In 1989, Pelayo de la Mata, the current Marqués de Vargas, realized his father’s dream by building a winery on the Estate Hacienda Pradolagar in Logroño.

Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Baja. Rioja Alta is expanded over 19.000 Ha. of vineyards. Our winery is located in Rioja Alta, to the east of Logroño, where the Tempranillo grape is the most noteworthy.

Winemaking: Grapes are carefully classified on the selection table, then a low-revolution destemmer is employed, grapes are consequently transferred to the 21,000 kg fermentation tanks by means of gravity. A cold maceration is carried out at a low temperature (8ºC) for a period of 3-5 days which is followed by the fermentation, lasting between 9 and 12 days at controlled temperatures between 20-24ºC. Finally, the wine undergoes a long maceration of the solids for 15 to 20 days

Ageing: 12 to 14 months in American (Missouri), French (Haute Futâie) and Russian (Caucasus) oak barrels with subtle to medium-toast level
