Volume 45, Issue 4 January, 2011 1
A native of New York,
Lucille Cole Carter evolved
from a very successful fash-
ion and furniture illustrator
into an outstanding fine art-
ist, recognized regionally
and nationally for her vivid oil, pastel and acrylic
paintings
Carter is an associate member of Oil Painters of
America and the Portrait Society of America. She is an
award-winning, signature member of Associated
Creative Artists, a signature member of the Pastel So-
ciety of the Southwest, and a signature member of
the Pastel Society of America.
Carter's work has been represented by galleries in
New York, Florida, Indiana, North Carolina and Texas,
and is included in many important collections in the
United States, Canada and Mexico. She is repre-
sented by The Artists' Showplace Gallery in Dallas,
Texas, of which she is a partner, Carson Art, Dallas,
and Art Encounter, Las Vegas, Nevada.
A R T I S T ' S S T A T E M E N T
"There is such great joy in transforming what many
view as ordinary objects or elements into beautiful
works of art, through skillful use of form, light and
color. It is my goal to cre-
ate paintings that draw
the viewer in, so I may
share my personal vision,
experience and emotion.
My hope is that the ex-
perience will be rich
enough and compelling
enough that the viewer,
for a moment, becomes
part of the story." -
Lucille Carter, PSA, ACA,
PSSW.

JANUARY CRITIQUE:
Starts this month at 5:45 PM. The 6:30 meeting start time is
for the Young People’s Show Awards. We will give out the
young people’s awards before the usual 6:45 starting time.
For the critique, you need one picture that you are working on
currently and two questions you have involving its progress or
lack therein. Brainstorming amongst participants is encour-
aged. This is a trial run to see how many participate and the
general level of interest for future meetings.

Kudos - Update on Christmas Activities of RCAS
These are candid shots from the RCAS Christmas Party hosted by Mary
Truelove and husband. Dianna Powrie served as Mistress of Ceremonies
and moved the art in a timely manner. Jane E. Jones offered
critiques of members’ individual works while giving liberal
praise where she felt due. The works ranged from traditional
to more abstract. One item most of us could use help in some
degree, she pointed out increasing the light and dark contrasts
and carrying colors consistently across the work, with her a
very knowledgeable eye. Thanks to Rosa Wan for the shots.

2011 Resolution
As RCAS starts a new year, let’s try to increase the membership figures. Suggestion has
been to invite someone interested in art to the January meeting, we have a wonderful pastel
demo with Lucille Carter to start the new year. We have a new visual system to observe
closely the demos at the library, so let’s see some new faces at the next meeting and the
next meeting, etc.

Desiging Directions
Can you believe it is 2011?? If 2011 is anything like 2010 for RCAS, I know it will be an exciting
year. We initiated several firsts so far –
-a video camera for our exciting demos, (our tireless and dedicated camera technicians extra-
ordinaire, Bert Rodriquez and Dick Mussett, are working out the technical problems to make the view-
ing even better),
-our first Paint-Out,
-the beautiful graphically-designed ad (by Debbie Berman) placed in the Eisemann Presents and Fam
ily Series programs for the year,
-some of our artists taking part in the Richardson Symphony Orchestra fund raiser at the Renaissance
Hotel by demonstrating what a talented and fun group we are,
-by participating in the artistic activity (initiated and implemented by Barbara McNutt) of the city’s
Tree the Town event by having participants write their name on a fall leaf then taping it to a large mu-
ral of leafless trees,
-and initiating patron funding through letters mailed to most of the city’s art supporters.
Through these and other events we have creatively reached one of my main goals for the year - spreading
the word about the Richardson Civic Art Society, the ONLY official visual art group in the city!
I hope all that are able will help start off our 2011 year by being present on January 15, 10:00 at the Library to
help take in of one of our most valuable gifts to the RISD youth community, our YOUNG PEOPLE’S SCHOLAR-
SHIP SHOW! Barbara McNutt and Dianna Powrie need our help. The awards will be presented, always EXCIT-
ING! on January 18, 6:30 pm followed by Lucille Carter’s fantastic pastel portrait demo.
