WHAT IS LUCID DREAM?

• Lucid dream is any dream in which a person is aware that he/she is dreaming during an ongoing dream.

• Also called conscious dream.

CHARACTERISTICS

• Dream environment and dream experiences can be controlled to some extent.

• Dreamers can experience all five senses, ie , touch, smell, sight, sound and taste

• Lucid dreams seem very real and are vivid.

• Usually occurs during the REM sleep cycle.

IS IT REAL?YES!

• The first scientific proof of lucid dreaming emerged in 1975 from the British parapsychologist Dr Keith Hearne.

• Researchers have monitored brainwave, blood flow and eye movement to prove the existence of higher levels of consciousness during lucid dreaming.

• Modern research- Stephen LaBerge and Lynn Nagel of Stanford University

LUCID DREAM – NOT A RECENT DISCOVERY

• Foundation of Tibetan dream yoga for more than 1000 years.

• Sigmund Freud wrote about it in his famous book “ The Interpretation of Dreams”

• Term coined by Dutch psychiatrist in 1913.
