Portfolio Creation Comments
I found the creation a good refresher on some of the AV equipment that I don’t use very often. It gave me a reason to get some hands on time with it all to really see what I remembered.
When I began creating this portfolio I felt that eight items was a bit too many but as I progressed through I realized that it was a good amount to provide a well rounded experience with the AV in a modern library.

Portfolio Use & Challenges
Personally the main use I have for this portfolio is the project research. We are planning a technological revamp soon and my opinion is asked for on matters like this.
The most challenging piece of equipment for me was the Dell Optiplex 745 but that’s mostly due to the fact that it is older, slow and needs to be upgraded fairly badly.

My Philosophy, Media Use & the 21st Century Library
For me being an LTA is all about helping people. My situation is a little different, at my library, LTAs are given the opportunity to do more than most places and it’s why I love what I do.
That includes with media, I am my departments, and at times the library’s, media and technology expert, I like being able to show people new media and how to use it and troubleshooting when stuff goes wrong.
In the 21st Century Library media is more important than ever. It is a big part of everyone’s life and because of that a big part of what people come to the library for. Due to that today’s library staff has to be well versed in media, they will be fielding a ton of questions about it and if they cannot provide assistance they will lose that patron’s trust.

Appraisal Checklist:
Digital Camera Canon PowerShot ELPH 110 Type: Digital Camera Price: 349.99 Model: PowerShot ELPH 110 HS Manufacturer: Cannon Resolution:16.1 MegaPixel Memory:
Ratings: High Med Low Comments:
Picture quality X For a camera it’s size and price it is capable of taking some very nice shots.
Ease of operation X It’s very easy to use with simple modes and buttons and uncomplicated shooting modes.
Price range X While not extremely expensive it is still slightly high for a camera in it’s class.
Durability X It’s small and lightweight and like any camera that’s true of it doesn’t take drops of rough treatment well.
Ease to maintain X
Ease to repair X Like any modern camera, repairs are best done by the manufacturers or by licensed repairers, most users will not be able to perform repairs on.
Other features: Takes good video clips as well, good amount of shooting modes. Strengths: Takes good pictures for the price, lots of shooting modes and features. Weaknesses: Fairly short battery life. Shooting can be mixed, soft picture in high Iso. Recommended action: A great camera for the price, a good purchase for the library. Small and light 16.1 MP and Digic 5 Image
Processor make for improved images over predecessor
Fun shooting options and video modes
Takes good pictures and video clips Can give mixed shooting results Photo quality suffers in low light
situations Battery life poor
MSRP a bit too expensive for the model, wait until the price dips below 200

Library Use
The main use I believe a library would have for this camera is to take pictures of programming. Having a picture of a program tells a story about it and if you can capture the joy and excitement of the participants in the photo there’s no better tool for promoting the program in the future.
Another use for this camera in the library would be to document damages to either materials or the facilities for insurance or other purposes
Lastly the camera can be used to take picture of the steps that need to be taken to complete library tasks for training purposes.

Library Use
Computers are used in every part of library work in today’s library.
This computer would be used by circulation staff to check materials in and out and monitor holds and other circulation functions.
Technical Services would use it to research materials they’re asked to order, place the orders and monitor the collection.
Adult and Youth Services would use it to research books to be added to the collection, check the status of items in the collection, retrieve information from the internet for patrons, maintain the libraries social media accounts and other assorted tasks.
Administration would use it to maintain and adjust the website, maintain staff files and maintenance requests as well as other administrative documents and files.

Library Use
The main way I would use this projector is in large group programs where a TV screen and DVD set up would not be big enough for everyone to see, ie. a reading program Final party.
Could also be used to project power points, word documents and other media for larger staff meetings.

Library Use
The main use for this MP3 player would be for programming, to create a playlist or soundtrack to play in the background of the program to enhance the setting.
It would also be used as a repository for all the department music in a portable and easy to use location, to be able to be used for outside events and programming
Additionally in can be used to test Apps and Games for their appropriateness, usability, informational and entertainment value so as to better the staff’s ability to field questions and help patrons with their own devices and applications.
