Commitment to Excellence, Yes, you can… yes, we can!

Beirut District’s Guiding Principles -1. Our mission adhere to that of Scouting which is to contribute to the education of young

people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law, to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society. This is achieved by:

§ Involving youth throughout their formative years in a non-formal educational process, § Using methods that make each individual the principal agent of his or her development as a self-

reliant, supportive, responsible and committed person, and§ Assisting youth to establish a value system based upon spiritual, social and personal principles as

expressed in the Promise and Law. (www.scout.org)

1. Baden Powell, founder of the World Scouting Movement, described Scouting as a GAME with a PURPOSE that involves RECREATION, VALUES and LEARNING

§ Recreation is the GAME,§ Learning is the PROCESS, and§ Values are the PURPOSE.

1. We work on the principles that “unless we can hear each other singing and crying, unless we can comfort each other’s failures and cheer each other’s victories... We are missing out on the VERY BEST LIFE has to OFFER:

THE ONLY REAL ACTION TAKES PLACE ON THE BRIDGE BETWEEN PEOPLE

جمعية الكـشاف اللبناني

Beirut District Guiding Principles -

1. By dreaming, sharing, planning and growing together we can achieve wonders, individually and as a group, imagine snowflakes, nature’s most fragile things… but imagine what they can do when they stick together.

1. To us, what matters in this life is more than winning for ourselves: what truly matters is helping others in their race, even if it means slowing down and changing our course.

1. Because LEADERSHIP is only an ACT, NOT A TITLE, We will help each other create a positive, warm, promising, motivating, educational, guiding, value-based, joyful and recreational environment, where all will grow as leaders.

TELL me & I FORGET… TEACH me & I REMEMBER… … INVOLVE me & I WILL LEARN

ü If I accept you as you are, I will make you worse; however if I treat you as though you are what you are capable of becoming, I help you become that.

ü You can learn new things at any time in your life if you're willing to be a beginner. If you actually learn to like being a beginner, the whole world opens up to you.

Beirut District’s Guiding Principles -

THE POWER OF LITTLES

Great Events, we often find,On little things depend,

And very small beginningsHave oft a mighty end.

Letters joined make words,And words to books may grow,As flake on flake descending Form an avalanche of snow.

A single utterance may goodOr evil thought inspire;

One little spark enkindledMay set a town on fire.

Be the BEST of Whatever YOU ARE

If you can’t be a pine on the top of the hill,Be a scrub in the valley – but be

The best little scrub by the side of the rill;Be a bush if you can’t be a tree

If you can’t be a bust be a bit of the grass,And some highway happier make;

If you can’t be a muskie than just be a bass - But the liveliest bass in the lake!

We can’t all be captains, we’ve got to be crew,There’s something for all of us here,

There’s big work to do, and there’s lesser to do,And the task you must do is the near.

If you can’t be a highway then just be a trail,If you can’t be the sun be a star;

It isn’t by size that you win or you fail - Be the best of whatever you are!

(Douglas Malloch)
