LPD description

The LPD (Local power unit for double acting) is designed for the control of double-acting actuators requiring hydraulic pressure for operation in open or closed position. The LPD is an integrated electro-hydraulic system for remote control of valves and actuators, and which is especially developed for mounting directly on valve actuators, primarily on board ships.

The LPD consists of a hydraulic pump which is driven by a squirrel-cage motor with interface functions. The LPD offers installation in both safe and hazardous area in two basic versions: −− LPD for safe area −− EX LPD for hazardous area

LPD features

−Due to incompressibility of hydraulic medium used, zero system leak and high holding pressure give the electro-hydraulic actuator with relatively high accuracy of valve positioning. −The indicator can clearly identify the open and closed position.

−Wiring is safe and convenient. −Standardized wiring interface. −Ease of commissioning and filling oil. −Low energy consumption.

Operation LPD

1-The valve open/closed control signals are from the external control cabinet. 2-Open the valve: The local power unit receives the signal to open the valve, and the motor starts the hydraulic pump to provide the power oil for the actuator "open valve" oil port until the actuator is fully opened. Then the valve position feedback device sends the signal to control system to cut off the motor power and sends the "valve open" signal to the external control cabinet. 3-Close the valve: The local power unit receives the signal to close the valve, and the motor starts the hydraulic pump to provide power oil for the actuator "close valve" oil port until the actuator is completely closed. Then valve position feedback device sends the signal to control system to cut off the motor power and sends the "valve closed" signal to the external control cabinet. 4-Modulating valve control: The actuator is equipped with a quarter-turn encoder for position feedback. The actuator 0°~90° stroke position can be adjusted under

the control signal.

5-Valve-position fault: When the local power unit loses power, signal or oil pressure, the actuator will hold last position. 6-Valve-jammed alarm: When the local power unit receives the valve open or close signal, and the valve can’t be fully open or closed, the control

system will cut off the power supply to motor through the preset time relay in the control system, and simultaneously sends out the alarm signal. 7-Emergency local operation: The local power unit has the emergency operation interface. In the case of "three-lose", the valve can be opened or closed through the emergency hand pump.

LPD controls

The LPD is designed with interfaces to CANopen, dual CANopen or Digital control systems.

Emergency operation of LPD

With portable hydraulic hand pump A portable hand pump is connected to the two quick connectors, which are directly connected to the LPD’s ports. The actuator can be operated in either

direction, until the required position is reached. If too high pressure is applied to the LPD, the relief valve will let the oil flow to the tank. The hand pump is disconnected. The actuator is hydraulically locked in last position. With fixed hydraulic hand pump Open two stop valves for inlet and outlet of hydraulic hand pump, and open or close is selected on the hydraulic hand pump lever, the hydraulic hand pump is operated until the required position is reached. The actuator is hydraulically locked in last position.

Note!

After emergency operation, remote control is automatically resumed.

Electrical LPD

(1) For the Digital interface LPD, 1Ph 230V AC 50/60 power supplied from the external control cabinet or shipyard and uses max 3 x 4.0 mm² power cables. 7 x 0.75 mm² cables containing motor control and position indication signals are connected between the external control cabinet and each local power unit. (2) For the Digital interface LPD, 3Ph 380V AC 50/60 power supplied from the external control cabinet or shipyard and uses max 4 x 4.0mm² power cables. 7 x 0.75 mm² cables containing motor control and position indication signals are connected between the external control cabinet and each local power unit. (3) For the CANopen interface LPD, 1Ph 230V AC 50/60 power supplied from the external control cabinet or shipyard and uses max 3 x 4.0 mm² power cables. 2x0.75 +0.75mm² cables containing motor control and position indication signals are connected between the external control cabinet and each local power unit.

(4) For the CANopen interface LPD, 3Ph 380V AC 50/60 power supplied from the external control cabinet or shipyard and uses max 4 x 4.0 mm² power cables. 2x0.75 +0.75 mm² cables containing motor control and position indication signals are connected between the external control cabinet and each local power unit. (5) The motor/pump starts by means of control interface - open or close. If the pressure exceeds 130 bar for 7 sec. the timer stops the motor/pump. This circuit ensures a high safety on the LPD.
