Fabiano Ventura’s work appears in leading international periodicals. He has followed several alpinist expeditions in the Himalayas and Karakorum and arranged reportages in remote areas of the world. He also teaches landscape photography workshops in Italy and other countries.

Greg Lowe invented the world’s first internal-frame backpack so he and others could carry their gear

with security, accessibility and comfort. Since that first design breakthrough, we’ve carried on the

Resources conserved in the process of printing this brochure include: Printed on paper containing 27.5% (average) post consumer recycled content. Paper is Acid free and Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) and carries three chain-of-custody certifications supporting responsible forestry management: FSC, SFI and PEFC. Inks are environmentally friendly Hostmann-Steinberg and contain vegetable based oils with low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s). Taking deliberate steps to Recycle and Conserve ResourcesWe take pride in constructing camera and digital accessory bags that withstand the tests of travel, trekking, weather and time. To make products that are extremely durable and long-lasting requires sourcing the toughest fabrics and materials on earth – ones that are commonly made from non-renewable resources. But we want to do more to source and use recycled materials that help us tread more lightly on the earth . . . and we have. In 2007, the Primus AW was the world’s first camera backpack made with 100% post-consumer, recycled Cyclepet™ exterior fabric – the equivalent of 22, 16 oz. PET bottles. In 2008, we added two backpacks and launched our most resource-friendly bags to date, the Terraclime series of three digital pouches and a DSLR shoulder bag. More than 95% of the content is recycled, inside and out. We are only at the beginning of a long path and continue to integrate earth-conscious materials into our new designs.

Raising Awareness about Bear Habitats

Lowepro is proud to have been a significant participant in the campaign

to preserve the Spirit Bear — a rare subspecies of the American Black Bear

whose habitat was threatened by clear-cut logging. In 2001, a 240,000-acre

Spirit Bear protection area was established and logging banned in significant

valleys of the Great Bear Rainforest. We continue our support of creatures in

need with the Arctic survivalist — the polar bear. In 2006, we joined forces

with Polar Bears International (PBI) to help raise awareness about the plight of

these bears and the effects of global warming. A portion of the proceeds of our

Primus AW, Primus Minimus AW, CompuPrimus AW, Terraclime 100, 50, 30 and

10 bags goes directly to PBI to help in their efforts to protect polar bear habitat.

“In 1980 I shot an essay on mountain gorillas and I discovered the camera could make a big difference in conservation. Since then I have been on a mission to tell the stories of endangered species. The proceeds of my book set, The Last Place on Earth, are going to conservation. Why do I care? One time, I got to what’s wild and looked it in the eye. Now I don’t think I can ever come back. It’s an incredible privilege to go into these wild, wild places.”

Michael “Nick” Nichols is Editor at Large for photography at National Geographic magazine. He has devoted himself to producing photography that effects environmental change. Nick’s work with conservationists such as Mike Fay and Jane Goodall has resulted in books, the creation of 13 national parks in Africa and reforms in chimp conservation. He is a former member of Magnum Photos, and founded the Look3: Festival of the Photograph in Virginia. He lives in Sugar Hollow, VA with his wife, artist Reba Peck.

“I always wanted to go to the Olympics as a sports photographer. The Beijing Games were my fourth Olympics. The nice thing about the Games is the diversity of sports you photograph. In the Netherlands I only take pictures of football, or soccer as it is called in the United States. In Beijing I photographed sailing out of a press boat. It was quite tough to make a crisp photo because of the instable position in the boat. However, it made this picture special because of the low angle — it looks like the boat is sinking with the sailing flags as silent witnesses.”

From 1990 to 2007 Mattias published nine books on natural history and cultural subjects—each showcasing his unique artistic and environmentally sensitive approach—from the rainforests of Borneo to journeys through his native Sweden. In 2008 he was nominated as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. Mattias has undertaken major expeditions around the world, produced documentary films, is a member of the Board of Trustees of World Wild Fund for Nature in Sweden, and a fellow of the Linnean Society of London.

Photographing people, as portraiture, is a search for what is below the surface. It is there that their truth lies. Photographing nudes, I see the way I would like to be touched. I try to make the light be the sensual caress of a hand. Having spent most of my career photographing fashion, portraits and nudes, it was natural that the sensual beauty and mystery of flowers would captivate me. I get lost in their endless nuances and

surprises. The sensual movement of their shapes and colors are almost like a dance. And the quiet place that they take me is hypnotic.”

Legendary international photographer Barbara Bordnick’s images have been called “elegant,” “classic,” and “lyrical.” She has earned numerous awards for her work in film, print, advertising and art. Her photographs are in the permanent collections of the International Center of Photography and the Gilman Collection in New York. Barbara’s sensitive flower explorations inspired the books Searching: Secret Landscapes of Flowers Volumes I, II and III.

“Underwater photography is one of my biggest passions. I find the kaleidoscope of color coupled with the bizarre creatures intriguing. You never know what you’ll encounter on each dive; there’s always something new to learn. I have a deep respect for coral reef systems, and shooting in such delicate locations requires solid diving skills and the ability to work with rather heavy, cumbersome gear. To capture the colors I see at depth, I have to manage five-foot arms that support the strobes in order to shoot wide angle.”

When Lowepro human resources manager Joanne Panizzera started diving in the early 1980’s, she wanted to be able to share the underwater world with people who wouldn’t otherwise go there. Her passion for photography spans most of her life. She has traveled all over the world to shoot in her favorite medium — places like the Solomon Islands, Palau and Bonaire. When not underwater, she can be found traversing the landscapes of California and Wyoming on horseback.

It started with inventive spiritin a small Colorado garage over 40 years ago. Since then, we’ve

been traveling the world on the backs and shoulders of the best

photographers. We learned. We’ve invented. We learn more. And we

keep inventing. For us, the process never stops. It’s our passion and
